Finishing Medication - Day 84

Today was day 84! I cannot get him in for bloodwork until Saturday - at the recommendation of the FIP Advocates & Champions volunteers I am continuing meds until then (just to be safe). His stats 4 weeks ago were already in normal ranges, so overall I am optimistic.

He was diagnosed about 2-3 weeks into adoption. So not only have I watched his personality come out as he recovers, but also as he adjusts to his new home.

When he was diagnosed he had the belly of a heavily pregnant cat, it was massive and swelled up almost overnight. He lost all interest in food, and had little energy.

He now screams at me while I get his food ready, which a big change from the picky eating habits the Rescue warned me about. He has gone from 7lb to 12.

He also started getting the zoomies at all hours of the day & night. Watching him tear around the apartment is such a stark contrast from when I first adopted him.

He is also obsessed with grooming my face lol.

I am wondering, after the blood work do I just stop the medication, no tapering off or anything? Did you notice any behaviour changes/adjusting the weeks following? Any tips for the observation period?

Post-FIP Pet Insurance

I was very fortunate that the Rescue has covered all the costs for my cat's wet FIP. He is 10 months old and his 84 day treatment is completed later this week. He has responded amazingly well and is back in great health.

After the Rescue's Vet does the bloodwork I will be transitioning my cat over. All documentation will be transferred, and I will continue the monitoring period with my Vet.

I am wondering if anyone has experience with Pet Insurance in this situation?

I know that a FIP relapse would be excluded as a pre-existing condition. But companies are not very clear if anything else would be considered pre-existing. I don't want to pay for something that is going to face constant claim rejections because they try to link it to a post FIP issue.

Is it worth it to get pet insurance? Has anyone gone through this situation and what was it like?

Am I making the decision too rashly?

He's almost 12 - old for a Rottweiler, and I know I've been lucky to get so much time with him. He's been my rock through such a large chunk of my life.

His arthritis has been worsening for several years, some ataxia, mobility steadily declining, and already on Librela + Gabapentin. Our walks have been getting shorter and shorter, to the point we only make it to the end of the street. Recently I became aware of just how much his world has been shrinking.

Even so, I wasn't prepared. The last week-ish his appetite was progressively decreasing & losing interest in treats. I thought it may be due to the recent hot weather. Last night was the sharpest decline. He couldn't stand up or walk without assistance. I had to physically shift & maneuver him throughout the night (so he wasn't laying on one side too long). This morning it took 3 of us to get him outside to pee.

I've made the call to say goodbye, let him pass peacefully and with dignity. The appointment is set for later this afternoon. I feel so guilty, and am second-guessing myself.

Am I making the decision too quickly? Could something be done? A few times he was able to stand on his own briefly this afternoon. He is still aware and interested in his surroundings.

Healing process for a corneal ulcer

Last week I brought my cat into the Vet. She is 10 months old, spayed, and up to date on her shots. I noticed she was squinting a lot and producing a lot of clear & white-ish tears. Upon further inspection there was a small white spot on her eyeball.

Vet diagnosed it as an ulcer and prescribed medication. It's most likely from her playing with her brother. She has been on Oral Antibiotics (Clavamox) twice daily, and Eye Drops (Tobramycin) every 4-6 hours since Wednesday evening. She is scheduled for a follow up Friday morning.

In a few days I noticed improvments. The redness doing down, her eyes weren't gunky at all, and she was overall in a much better mood.

Now, her eye is clear, no cloudiness or anything. But when the light reflects I can still see an uneven surface in the exact area the ulcer was.

I'm just trying to figure out what is normal for the healing process of an ulcer. The Vet did say there may be scar tissue. Is this normal or should I take her back early?

I have some images I can share (they're honestly not bad).

Xbox is getting a little ridiculous

Genuinely what is going on with Xbox? Lately it feels like I disconnect from more matches than I complete.

I'm in a city with great internet, I rarely if ever dc in any other game. It's happened to me occasionally on PC, but nowhere near the degree it does on Xbox, I'm talking multiple times in a night. The game is basically unplayable.

Has AH addressed it at all, have any plans to look into it? Because I know it's not just me.

No idea who it came off of and we're kind of stressed. In Southern Ontario Canada.

There are 3 dogs in the house right now and as of a few weeks ago two are on preventative, and 1 dog is not (his annual checkup scheduled in a couple weeks).

There are also 4 adults in the house and aside from my dad who frustratingly wasn't concerned at all, we were checking each other, but no signs of a bite.
