Hello, beautiful unwell! As you know, our vampires will be attending San Diego Comic Con this weekend for their panel and no doubt other announcements and shenanigans!

Please feel free to use this post to share photos, clips and other bits and pieces of the cast if/when they're spotted outside the official announcements, as well as to discuss SDCC, what you hope to see from the panel, and (if you're there) arrange meetups with your fellow coven members!

Today's schedule (as far as we know):

• 12:30 – 1:15PM PT - panel in Hall H
• From 2PM PT - IGN livestream including chat with TVL cast and crew (time TBC)

Note: the panel itself will not be livestreamed, but you can follow along on social media from people who are in Hall H! No doubt official videos and clips will be dropped after the panel.

I just wanted to give thanks and a shout out to this moment in the finale for finally saying out loud what many fans have been loving about Lestat for a while. The show has never shied away from showing Lestat exploring gender non-conformity through drag (at Mardi Gras) and how he talks about himself in vulnerable moments ("I am she, she is me", "a wolf congratulated for not killing her pup"), and in the latest season through his song lyrics ("I'm a showgirl in the shower / a puking princess on your bathroom floor"). It felt so good to see this moment on screen and acknowledged.

Lestat's gender variance feels like an extension of Anne's original vision for vampires as "genderless" creatures who exist in a space beyond human society's restrictions on sexuality, gender and gender expression. I also like it as a small compromise in the fact that Gabriella hasn't (yet) been shown exploring her own gender. As a trans man, I would have loved to have Gabi's trans masc journey on the screen, but I can also understand why the writers may not have wanted that to be part of her arc given the political atmosphere. I enjoy Lestat being given a chance to explore a trans femme moment as a way for the show to incorporate the de Lioncourt gender expression plot while staying true to an element of the character that has been present since season one.

I think it's so important for media to be willing to explore and thoughtfully talk about transness, gender variance and especially trans femininity right now. I love that the show is brave enough to take their beautiful and sexy main character and acknowledge that he is feeling some kind of way and showing him embracing and loving his femme side. I really like the way it shows how queer love can move through binaries and exist in so many wonderful ways. I also love in general how the show and this reason hasn't shied away from exploring gender and involving trans voices in the casting and writing.

Thank you, Rolin and Sam and Hannah and everyone for giving us our messy brat prince(ss). Be all the beautiful things you are, and be them without apology!
