On track for nursing but med school is in the back of my mind

I was just wondering if anyone else also is in a similar boat. I have a passion for helping others, healing, connection, biology, medicine… healthcare is definitely for me. And as of now my goal is to be a nurse practitioner eventually. I’m applying to nursing schools this fall for next fall and the pathway of medical school weighs on me and has for quite some time. I know some RNs make this pivot, so I still have time to decide in the next 2-3 years. I’m 21F and not getting any younger and don’t want to live my life in regret. Thoughts?

How hard is the Teas compared to study material?

My test is in 5 days and I've been studying for a couple months so I feel like I have a good idea of what's on the test. I mostly used Cheung, Dewitt, Brandoncraft, etc. However, I'm taking some Mometrix science practice questions right now, and it feels very hard and random. I have core concepts down, but should I have been preparing for more, niche subjects? Is Mometrix science just harder? And what about english and math? Should I be cramming for maximum new info these last few days or honing in on core concepts?

When I apply this fall, I won't start nursing school until next fall. What do you do for a year?

I'm taking my TEAS soon and hoping to make applications this fall. While there are a couple schools I can apply to that may start in Spring or Summer, most nursing programs won't start until Fall 2027. I've already taken one gap year to get my CNA cert and TEAS done. What are good ways to spend an entire year out of school?

I could:

- Pick up extra part time work in service/food industry.

- Work as a CNA or home health aide.

- Take a couple courses for another passion, get a real estate license or something.

- Travel?

I'm 21 but I hate the feeling like I'm wasting time. I just want to be productive. What did you do?

After reviewing everything, how do you study?

I've reviewed and studied every concept. At this point I'm pretty confident, and score consistent 80s in Mometrix practice tests. I would love to score a 90 in at least one section. At this point I don't even know where exactly to study and brush up on. I don't think I have any glaring weak spots, just like mild ones. I have 2 weeks until my test. Should I just review everything, again? Keep taking practice tests? Flashcards?

I'm getting tired of studying but I'm in the last couple weeks so I just want to hone in on my knowledge as efficiently as possible.

Losing fat, tips for minimal fat loss?

I'm 21F, 5'7 and 135 pounds. This is a healthy weight for me, I am thin, and I like my body and have slowly been improving my cardiovascular health with daily 10 minute runs. (I honestly mostly run for the mental health aspects, endorphins). I eat well too, mostly fiber, most of my carbs come from vegetables, and a good amount of protein. I cook most of my food. I don't track my calories but I have a good understanding of nutrition. As I'm writing this I'm realizing I should probably start tracking... I just don't want to end up disordered and I like the healthy relationship I have with food currently.

A few months ago I was teetering 140 and struggled with bingeing, overeating, sugar cravings. 5 pounds doesn't sound like a lot but my entire relationship with food was just bad. And there is a visible difference in the waistline. I've gone back to intuitive eating and feel and look a lot better. I think running has helped regulate my hormones and stopped my cravings and overeating. I've also been in therapy to heal from past trauma and also been turning off my phone for like 10 hours a day, and trauma and screentime/overstimulation could all be factors in overeating.

Basically I ideally want to lose some excess fat around my legs, love handles, etc. I would like to look more toned especially in my lower body. I'm hoping running will help but I don't think 10 minute runs even really count as running lol. I don't necessarily need to lose weight, I'd be fine with gaining weight if it was body recomposition, I just want to lose a little bit of fat. What should I be doing to achieve this? I still want to maintain a thinner frame so I'm not looking to bulk with heavy weights. I've done some research and it sounds like weight training with more reps and lower weights could do the trick, or something low coritsol and low impact like pilates. If anyone has been in my position, what did you do?

Beginning to Heal and delve into my spirituality

This past month has been monumental for my inner peace and healing. I've been in complete solitude for a month now, in weekly therapy, journaling almost every day, and delving into my spirituality. For context, I went through a very traumatic breakup last year, and ran from that pain with distractions for a year and a half, and finally decided enough is enough.

I have been manifesting, scripting, self-affirming, listening to guided meditation for loving kindness, setting up boundaries and I even dropped a toxic narcisistic friend, and have been reading my natal chart and pulling tarot cards. My tarot keeps urging me to focus on my purpose. It is very much emphasizing the importance for me to be aligned with my true self, my purpose, my mission on earth. I interpret this to mean my career, which I'm trying to focus on right now, which is nursing. I even pulled a card talking about how helpers are helped, serving others will serve me right, etc.

I've had plenty of breakthroughs over the past couple weeks but now I can't help but wonder, what's next? I haven't had a breakthrough in a while now. I'm beginning to feel restless. I am finally out of survival mode, thankfully. But what now? How do I go from simply comfortable in my own skin, to truly thriving? Or should I be more grateful for this period of peace and ride this out for as long as possible? So far I've concluded I need to get into meditating to clear my ruminations and also master some skills, topics, and hobbies. Should I be leveling up in a way I'm not aware of? Or is this peaceful solitude all I need?

How many hours a day should I study?

I have a month until my exam date. I've reviewed every concept and now I just need to master the concepts. I'm confident in reading but I need to memorize/grasp lots of science concepts, I need to improve my pacing in math, and I haven't really touched English yet. How many hours a day should I be studying? And what do you do on your off-time?

Movies about peace?

My favorite movies tend to be very emotional, visceral, intense narratives that trigger me in some way. Some of my favorite movies are The Florida Project, Before Sunset, Little Miss Sunshine, Midsommar... very emotional films. However I want to find movies that speak to a less dramatic part of me. What are some movies about peace, healing, living in the present? I remember when I watched "Sorry, Baby" and all I could think was wow, why aren't there more movies about healing? I asked my friends and they recommended to me "Into the Wild" and "Perfect Days." What are some other films to soothe an anxious soul and that feel like everything is gonna be okay?

Should I postpone my exam date?

I've been studying for about a month now but life has come up with new problems for me which are taking up my mental energy and my time. I haven't studied in a week now, and my exam is in 10 days. Should I postpone it? Are there drawbacks to doing that? Will I forget information I studied for when I first started studying?

Reproductive System need to know?

I've seen a lot of posts say that the reproductive system comes up a lot as well as the endocrine system. Basically, I need to know my hormones.

How extensively do we need to know reproductive hormones? Nurse Cheung only covers Prolactin, FSH, LH, Estrogen, Progestrogen, and Androgen. But Mometrix is mentioning hormones I've never seen before. How in depth should I be studying here? That goes for anatomy as well, I know the basic structures but like, what the heck is Wollfian, Mullerian ducts?

Any insight about reproductive/endocrine is helpful thank you !!

Methods of study - 2 weeks out from test!

I am a little less than 2 and a half weeks out from my exam date. I started studying 3 weeks ago with a light basic review with my ATI study guide, took a couple practice tests with Mometrix, and now I'm going over and taking notes with Nurse Cheung videos, skipping over the parts I'm confident in. I've taken a lot of Mometrix practice quizzes/tests and I consistently score around 70-80 and it is difficult to see progress (I know I am getting smarter and learning more things though, it's evident in my conversations and with each video/quiz I watch/take).

With only two weeks remaining, how should I study? Flashcards on hard topics? Rewrite my notes as many times as I can? Just go through every Nurse Cheung video and then take a few comprehensive practice tests?

I still haven't even mastered the English portion yet which I know is trouble! The only section I'm not really worried about at all is Reading. Any advice and tips please?

Teas testing in San Diego

I'm scheduled to take my TEAS exam next mont at SDSU. I was watching a Nurse Cheung video where she said not every school provides a 4 function calculator on the exam. For people who took their TEAS at SDSU, you were provided with a basic calculator?

I am obsessively ruminating about a toxic friend

I honestly don't really know what to do so I am asking for advice. I (21F) have been friends with this girl (21F) for two years now but starting last year I began to become suspicious of animosity and ill-will on her end. She vague-tweets about her friends, including me, constantly, and is quite often rude and judgemental in really discreet ways, that don't really even come out irl but are evident on her twitter posts. I've given her lots of excuses this past year for the different rude behaviors she has. Vague tweeting about her friends, judging, psycholanalyzing, and critiquing her friends, failing to greet us at group hangouts, posting about how she doesn't like any of her friends rn (for no reason), etc. I have been chalking it up to her having poor social skills, or having a depressive episode, or something. But I'm at my limit.

She makes passive agressive comments towards me, she "compliments" me in a way that seems angry or irritated, she's admitted to being an envious person in the past and I'm starting to believe this is a possible reason for her behavior. She has said I'm "conventionally attractive" and the "skinniest person" she knows as if she's irritated, and as if she's not?? Which she literally is, also. The signs were there from the beginning I guess, when we first became friends she told me she always thought I was so cool from outside appearances, and in a way always idolized me from afar. All "complimentary" things, but jealousy is truly a disease. Now she's graduated to accusing me of being a flirt, which I'm just not, and the real reason she thinks this is because two of her guy friends have shown interest in me. It's not fair to take that out on me when I've done nothing wrong. I've never lead any of her friends on, kissed anyone, etc., I literally just exist and yes I am attractive I guess, and very extroverted and talkative. But she makes me feel like I'm some stupid whore, and it's really been affecting my sense of self and self-worth. I feel like I just can't please her and she's always judging me for just existing as I am.

I know I should drop her or talk to her, but it would just be really messy since we share a lot of mutual friends who I want to stay friends with. I'm not sure how to navigate this. But I'm obsessively thinking about it, about her, about her hatred and animosity and judgement and literally just bad vibes. What would you do?

I am a girl and want *less* muscle

I'm 21F and I've had somewhat visible abs my whole life. When I have about 10 extra pounds on me, it's just a slightly toned stomach, but when I cut weight, it looks like a 6 pack in certain lighting. I don't train abs and I'm actually insecure about it, I want a feminine shape and to not appear "boxy." But I prefer how I look overall with a lower weight. I store all my fat in my legs and wish I could tone them down instead. Is it possible to have a less toned stomach for me with a lower weight?

Math is my weakest subject

I finally scheduled my exam a month from now. I’ve been studying for 2.5 weeks now and I’ve discovered that math is definitely my weakest subject. I’m usually a logical thinker (I’m great with scientific reasoning) but for some reason I have such a mental block with math. I see a complicated math problem and I immediately panic. It was never my best subject but that’s only been exacerbated by the fact that I’ve taken 1 legit math class in the past 7 years (my high school experience was killed by COVID). Anyone else who really struggled mathematically, how did you study? I’ve been trying BrandonCraft, practicing obviously, and even using my friend as a tutor. What else should I be adding to my routine?

I want to drop a friend, but she controls the friend group, and we share a mutual BEST friend

TLDR: There's a "close" friend in my life who I resent and basically want to drop. But she is besties with my best friend, and part of a huge friend group that is technically hers that I only recently joined and enjoy a lot. Should I just ignore it, talk about it, or what?

Basically I'm friends with this girl who is very "close" to me. She is on my private accounts, we have each other's location, our group chat is pinned in my messages, and basically I would've considered her one of my best friends a year ago.

But things have changed. I went through an awful traumatic breakup last year and she was there for me initially, but over time her true colors have started to show.

She is insanely judgemental, negative, condescending, and psychoanalyzes and critiques all of her closest friends, and vague tweets about it constantly on her private twitter.

I became suspicious of her judgement and malicious thoughts last year but this wasn't fully confirmed to me until last month, June, when our mutual best friend admitted it to me. I've been so upset ever since. My least favorite quality in a person is being judgemental. And I hate secret animosity!!!!!!!! It is soul killing. She gives me backhanded "compliments" all the time, vague tweets about me consistently, makes digs at me constantly, envies me, and overall her presence in my life feels malicious. :(

If this was any other type of friend, I would remove myself from her life. I would remove her from my private social media and stop hanging out, and even have a civil conversation that I don't like being judged and critiqued 24/7 and I don't really want to be friends anymore.

But she is SO entangled in my life. My best friend is her childhood best friend. Her childhood friend group are some of my friends now too. I really enjoy spending time with everyone else. I even really like her boyfriend and her family. I can't exactly drop her and expect to keep all these people in my life. I know our mutual bestie would stay close to me and would try to stay out of it, I have a lot of confidence in that friendship, and she would understand anyway. But I could definitely say goodbye to the rest of our mutual friends. What should I do?

I don't need to straight up cut her off, but I guess i do really want to remove/unfollow each other on social media, I just can't do that without addressing it. It would be very obvious and I just dont want to make a whole big thing out of it. Any advice?

Is it okay to go on and off the pill?

Hi, in the last year and a half, I've gotten on and off birth control like 4 times. I won't be doing so anymore, but basically I went through a breakup, stopped taking the pill (opill), but we got back together 3 times over that time span (lol) so I would go on it again, for a 2-3 months, and then stop again when I thought it was over. I looked online and couldn't find anything, and I'm wondering if this was really bad for my hormones and overall health and if anyone has done something similar, maybe because of a long distance relationship or something. I won't be doing this again, obviously I know this is abnormal and I'm worried about my health. My cycle is normal currently and I haven't particularly noted any symptoms. Any insight?

Should I work as a CNA before being an RN?

I finished my pre-reqs, got my CNA Cert, and am currently studying for my TEAS which I’m taking in August. If I make applications this fall I may not get into a nursing school until Fall 2027. I was wondering if I should continue my part time job as a barista or if I should work as a CNA during that time, until I get accepted somewhere. I know being a CNA is really hard and doesn’t pay that well, but maybe it would get me all amped up for nursing school, give me experience, or I could work for a company that would later hire me as an RN. My CNA instructor also told me she worked as a CNA while in nursing school, and working with one client in their home allowed her to have lots of NCLEX study time. This is also appealing to me. Is it worth it to work as a CNA before being an RN?

Do I need to have a school picked out for the TEAS?

Hi, I decided on taking the TEAS by the end of summer/early fall in order to make applications for fall 2027. However it says on the website that I can’t send my TEAS transcript to another location and some schools won’t accept it? Is this true, that you have to have a school in mind to send it to? I had no idea. I thought you just take the test like the SAT and send it to any school. I have a couple schools in mind but I generally haven’t researched that much, I was just hoping to apply to most schools in my area.
