What is this Jaguar piece called?

You guys helped me learn a lot about this replacement bridge on my dad’s old 1967 Jaguar. Now I’m curious what the piece is called that is usually found where the screw is on the bridge between the D and G strings?

In the first photo, my dad’s guitar has a flat head screw where this piece is but I see a lot of Jaguars with a little button. I’m thinking it locks the tremolo but I’m not sure.

Any chance the screw is original in my dad’s guitar or was it likely replaced and if so, why would he have replaced it with a screw?

Hey God

In the second verse, did the girl’s son blow some cop away or some punk away?

Also, did he get convicted or arrested?

Edit: for those confused, Jon almost never sings cop live, it's always punk, and he often swaps convicted and arrested. Has he just never fully committed to the lyrics on this one?

Murray-LaSaine Montessori lottery from downtown Charleston?

My son is about to start preschool and we’re looking into Murray-LaSaine Montessori on James Island. Our house is downtown, so I’m curious if anyone outside of James Island has actually gotten a child in through the lottery/School Choice program. How difficult is it to get a spot if you live downtown, and how does the lottery work for out-of-area families?

Our son also has Level 1 autism. He’s pretty high functioning, but I’d love to hear from parents who have experience with Murray-LaSaine and autism or IEPs. Has the school been a good environment for kids on the spectrum, and does a diagnosis affect the application process at all?

Finally, since we’re downtown, we’re also looking at James Simons Montessori. For anyone familiar with both, how would you compare James Simons and Murray-LaSaine? Test scores only tell you so much, so I’d especially love to hear from parents with firsthand experienc

Help with DC-DC converter

I just installed a 30 amp DC-DC converter on my EV golf cart (model Cllena DC7212-30), and I am having trouble cutting off the voltage to my accessory fuse box when the cart is off.

This model has an ACC trigger that allows the converter to turn on when a 3v-90v switched wire has a signal. I’m feeding this ACC input with the 12v wire powering a nearby USB port. Essentially when the golf cart is turned on, the USB turns on and the positive wire acts as the on signal for the Dc-Dc converter. Seems straight forward enough.

When the cart is turned off, I’m still getting a 3v signal coming out of the DC-DC output side and my entire fuse panel now has an always on 3 volts across anything plugged into it.

  1. is something wrong with my converter or will it always have a slight voltage leak even when the ACC signal is 0 volts?

  2. Will any electronics like a 90 watt stereo amp or powered subwoofer be damaged when the cart is off and the devices are still receiving a 3v signal?

  3. will this 3v signal cause significant battery drain? The whole point of buying an ACC switched converter was to kill it entirely when the cart was off and thereby killing any accessory connected downstream through the fuse box.

Is this common or should I work to get the voltage down to 0 when the cart is turned off??

The story of Wild is the Wind

Has anyone read the story about how Wild is the Wind was written? I like looking through the song credits and it’s shocking how many songs were co written by Desmond Child post slippery. This is one of them but it also features Diane Warren which made me wonder if they all had a single songwriting session together or if parts of the song came from two different songwriting meetups?

Google makes it impossible to find anything other than a history of Diane Warren or Bon Jovi lyrics in general. Have any of these songwriters spoken specifically about this classic?

Help identifying early show

Sometime in 2001 (I think), I saw John Mayer in a tiny tiny club with a bassist and drummer. It was in Birmingham, Alabama right around 911. Last night I spent an hour going down the ChatGPT rabbit hole and we could not find the date or location of this show. Here are some details I remember

  1. WRAX 107.7 “The X” was playing and promoting John’s cover of The Wind Cries Mary

  2. Your Body is a Wonderland was just starting to get air play but it wasn’t a big hit yet

  3. Sept 25th, John recorded at the Live A The X lounge in Bham but I don’t think this was the show I went to (I wasn’t at a radio station)

  4. I was front row and could reach out and touch his pedalboard. The venue had to have held 200 people max and the stage was 2” off the ground. It was not the 5 Points Music Hall and I’m 99% sure it wasn’t Zydeco.

  5. I went to college in Birmingham at the time and I don’t recall ever going to this venue again so it wasn’t a super popular music spot

  6. It felt like a restaurant that featured music more than a music venue. I recall some walls that separated the music area from the bar and possibly seating areas.

  7. ChatGPT thinks it was a less known show that occurred AFTER the day time recording of Live from the X Lounge and there doesn’t seem to be another period John would have been back in Alabama before 2002. It could have been August - Nov but the weather was not freezing (I don’t believe) so I’m guessing Fall.

  8. I remember working in a record store in Dec of 2001 and Room for Squares really starting to break open. I didn’t own the album then but I had already seen John in that small venue.

  9. The setlist was probably an hour is so and as a guitar fan, I remember thinking a lot of it was acoustic. But then he finally brought out an SRV style Strat (maybe even the signature model that was out) and John busted into Lenny and Wind Cries Mary (I think). I remember wishing he jammed out more on electric but still being super impressed.

Any chance anyone here know what show I went to and the details of it? John Mayer is the only artist I feel like I caught early before he blew up (well and Keith Urban when he was with The Ranch) and I’ve always been thankful I went to that random show and watched him play from 3 feet away.

Why are Floyd rose strats with pick-guards so rare?

I’m building a Strat style guitar right now with a Floyd rose (actually Gotoh 1996t) and want a specific color scheme: tortoise pickguard with nitro Sherwood green paint.

While researching all the aspects about this build, I realized very few Strats with Floyd Rose trems actually have pickguards. They are almost all routed from the back with the pickups, toggle switch, and volume/tone pots routed out cleanly. Go on reverb or eBay and look for a traditional style body routed for a FR that also has the electronics cavity on the front of the body and you’ll see it’s pretty rare.

Why is this?

There are a few signatures I can think of that have pickguards like the Richie Sambora Strat or the Tom Morrelo Strat but they aren’t common. Am I crazy for liking the 1) versatility a pickguard gives for different pickup configurations and 2) just liking the way a Strat looks with a pickguard? On a Les Paul, no pickguard…I’m a Strat, yes please!

Wanted

Is this song giving Jon trouble? I believe he has only NOT sang it a handful of times since Slippery came out but then we see it cut twice in the last week. What’s going on? Seems wild to cut that one but not say Perfect Drug or something else totally forgettable

City wants to fine me for sidewalk grass

What's the deal with that little patch of grass between the sidewalk and the road downtown? I got a notice from the city that the grass is not cut low enough and they want to fine me $1000 if I don't maintain it. I see a lot of people downtown have hardscaped this area with rocks, fake turf, or plants that don't grow much, but I'm wondering if I'm allowed to touch that patch of land?

It seems kind of weird that the city says it's my responsibility to cut the grass in this little 20 foot by 2 foot area but then won't let me just hardscape it. Anyone dealt with this? Is it best to go through the city and pull some sort of permit (seems like a PITA) or just do it and see what happens? Is there a free way to get the utility company(s) to come mark where the water line and gas lines are in this area? The city planted an oak tree in this patch of grass that died and now I have a huge stump that also needs grinding.

Later albums

I’m curious what the fans think? The setlists are basically taking 1-2 songs from all the albums with NJ and SWW having 3-4.

Do hardcore fans really care about hearing anything off the later albums? I don’t think I would care to hear anything from Lost Highway, Have a nice Day, 2020 (man that was bad) or This House…Forever I understand because it’s the current record. Is anything being played from These Days at all?

I’d love to hear more randoms like little bit of soul or sleep when I’m dead vs anything post 2000. The circle was a cool record though

How would you finish this paver patio?

I’ve been working on this paver and Astro Turf side patio and I think it looks pretty good. But I’m wondering if the edges need something to wrap it all up? I’m in Puerto Rico so the options are pretty much limited to Home Depot and a few local stores. Nothing at HD has a nicely polished side stone that’s narrow (it all looks like rough concrete). Any suggestions or should I just leave it like this?

Denago Rover vs EZGO L6

I’m really close to pulling the trigger on a Denago Rover XL but there is also a 2026 EZGO L6 elite nearby that is in the mix. It’s a few thousand more but the owner is taking a $4k hit since he just bought it and is having to sell it (relocating).

I currently own an EZGO gas s4 express and I kind of hate it. Half of it probably because it’s gas and not electric but every EZGo I’ve driven is insanely bumpy. Mine and the 2026 L6 both have an archaic leaf suspension system that doesn’t absorb much when cruising around the neighborhood. If you are in the second row, any speed bump is absolutely back breaking even at 5 mph.

The Denago has all the bells and whistles and most importantly has real shocks on the back wheels. I know people here hate the Denago because it’s not one of the main 3, but as an owner of an EZGO, I’m just looking mainly for a smoother ride.

The 2026 L6 I test drove was incredibly bumpy and to be fair, it does have the 3rd row so it is longer than mine and the Denago.

Here are the Denago advantages

  1. has a stereo and can be upgraded easily
  2. has a nice screen headunit that makes it incredibly easy to upgrade components and adjust Bluetooth, eq, speed, etc etc
  3. has a better suspension which might be my main concern
  4. has a rear view camera which is nice for parking in tight spaces and for my wife
  5. can be programmed to go 25 or even 30 mph which is awesome

EZGo advantages:

  1. dealer is local which is a huge advantage
  2. parts are easier to get I hear, but from experience, the EZGo parts haven’t been upgraded in 20+ years so it’s kind of an ancient machine
  3. third row is better for more storage but also a disadvantage for parking and overall maneuvering
  4. might hold it’s value more. There aren’t any used denagos in my area so who knows.
  5. has a much simplier plexiglass windshield. The Denago windshield has so many contours and vents, it’s actually harder to see out of

Questions that could persuade me to buy the EZGO:

A) can it be programmed to go faster? Right now the L6 is maxing out at 18mph which is what my current golf cart does and it feels slow

B) can I buy an after market LCD screen that allows me to hook up a stereo, undercarriage lights, and rear view camera? Would also be nice to have Apple play and Google Maps and that sort of thing too

C) is there anything that can be done with the suspension or is it what it is? I hate the leaf system so much. My buddy owns a club car and despite it sitting inches off the ground, the ride is waaaay smoother than any EZGo I’ve driven.

Easiest way to make wood dust?

I need to fill some tiny air openings around the tangs of the fret wire of a Ziricote fretboard. I’m thinking of taking a wood bank of the same wood and sanding it and hopefully capturing enough of the powder in the vacuum bag to use.

Does anyone know of a better or easier way to do this?

Can EZGO suspension be fixed?

I have a 2016 EZGO S4 Express and boy is it painful driving this around the neighborhood. Every single speed bump, slight dip in the pavement, and transition from golf cart path to crosswalk literally feels like a visit to the Chiropractor is needed.

Is this just the nature of EZGO carts or is there some sort of suspension kit I can buy that will fix this?

I ask because every Club car I’ve driven rides so much smoother despite them having tiny wheels and sitting lower to the ground. My EZGO almost looks like it’s made for going off road yet it almost ejects anyone sitting on the back straight into the roof. I just test drove my friends Denago Rover and it too was super smooth. What are my options? My cart is gas by the way and not electric

California Dreaming

Last night while eating at The Little Darling, my wife mentioned she likes the fried shrimp at California Dreaming better. What should I make of this?

I’m trying to design a “simple” pergola that looks minimalistic and modern. The design is basically like the first photo all done with 6’x6’ posts.

I cannot figure out how to mount the top and have all the horizontal posts sit on top of the supporting posts. Every single 6x6 3-way corners I’m finding online give me a few concerns:

  1. they are all 11-13 gauged steel which may not be strong enough to support the downward weight alone

  2. Most of them allow only one beam to sit on top of the post but the other beam is almost always resting inside the 90 degree pocket which acts more like a hanger. It seems the better design would be one where both beams sit on top of the vertical post even if that means having to notch one of them to make room for it to fit.

My design is going to be 6’ by 10’ (10 feet wide and 6 feet attached to the house) and I’m wondering if I can use these so that the 10’ run is sitting on top of the two posts and the shorter 6’ runs to the house wall can be safely suspended by the bracket itself?

Would adding a larger gauge L bracket underneath the hanging posts be adequate?
