My bank offered me a credit limit increase - are there any risks Im missing?

I’m 20 in school, my school loans are my only debt. I’ve had this credit card for nearly 2 years now and always pay the balance off in full. I have a 40% utilization ratio only because I put all spending on the card for cash back benefits.

I just got an offer for a $1500 limit increase which would immediately put my utilization down to 23% because my monthly spending wouldn’t change (probably go down now that summer is over, if anything).

I know there’s risks if you’re an over-spender and see yourself struggling to pay it back or you’re applying for a new loan soon. Neither of these apply to me, so should I just take it or am I missing something else?

Affordable jeans for petite curvy builds?

I’m 5’2 and struggle to find jeans that fit properly so I usually just get overly baggy ones but I’d like a few more flattering ones if possible.

My waist is 23/24in and hips 38in. I think my inseam is 24 but I’m not as picky about length because I can hem any jeans. I’m just really struggling to find jeans that fit my hips/thighs without being too loose on the waist. I found a brand online that looks great but it’s like.. $200 a pair so I’d rather not have that be my first choice.

Thanks in advance!

Can anyone help me track this taxi please?

I lost my phone in a taxi and I normally wouldn’t care, but I lost all my photos including the ones of my recently passed mom. I just want the photos back.

I have a transaction on my debit that says “RETAIL PURCHASE 622001401936 TAXI”.

I took a taxi Friday night from a pick-up spot, so I can’t track a number I called. I don’t know the taxi company but after calling all of them, one told me it’s likely an independent driver. I’m thinking this long number is his taxi license. I remember his initials were AA, I think the first name was Abdul.

I can see where the taxi parked (his home address) and my absolute last resort is driving there unannounced

Am I too behind in savings at 20?

I'm concerned I'm way behind in what I should have saved as a 20 year old in university. I'll have a total of $3000 saved by the end of the summer and about 2/3 of that in ETFs. I'll have more money coming to me in grants/loans in the fall, but it's my plan to live frugally and pay off any loans I don't use ASAP to make it easier for me when I graduate. I don't have any other debts. I feel like I'm constantly comparing my funds to my friends who don't have any living expenses and just save and save their money. I can't afford to do that, I help my dad with bills each month.

i finally decided to cut off my bsf thanks to u guys!

maple beaver tail. so good but had the worst stomach ache after loll

i know the pros and cons list seems excessive but i was on a long car ride and upset about it and needed to get my thoughts down. and then i found myself having very few positives compared to all the cons i could easily find :(

i made a post on here a few weeks ago about how she admitted to being fine with homewrecking and this sub gave me very good advice. i think that triggered me to consider our friendship and i realized she’s just, as a whole, a selfish person. in everything she does. i’m really sad but she ignored me for over a week and i realized she’s just not a good friend and i can’t keep dealing with the hurt i feel when she does this stuff.

i could expand on any point but here’s my main things:
- if im upset about something, she will ignore me for a few days until she thinks it’s passed and then proceed to talk about her own thing and that only.
- the homewrecking thing. it made me realize i’m not proud of who she is as a person and don’t want people to associate me with her morals.
- she constantly has stories complaining about her other friends or a bad night or whatever, and it’s consistent. i realized she doesn’t care to fix herself or who she surrounds herself with.
- also realized that she probably talks about me that way if she talks about anyone else that way.

anyways, thank you guys for helping me realize i deserve a better friend. i get to find a better bond but until then i feel heartbroken honestly lol. i think friendship heartbreak isn’t talked about enough

how do i prepare to leave my dad and become completely financially independent?

i dont know what to do but i cant keep living like this. im 20 and halfway through my bachelors degree, its paid for through a school scholarship and i also get governments grants/loans for living expenses. my dad pays for my rent and car insurance, but to be honest the insurance is for his own cars and only under my name because he has a DUI from a decade ago and its cheaper under my name. i know this is wrong but i dont feel like im in a position to say no considering the dependence i have on him.

my dad is a drinker and has a very bad habit with spending. he owes me around $4k in what he’s meant to pay me for rent, insurance, and just small loans. i think he will get it to me and i know hes struggling to get business right now, but this has been so stressful and i cant be tied to him like this anymore. it’s uncomfortable to ask my dad for the money he owes me and his drinking makes me not want a relationship with him. he gets mean and beyond that i’m just disappointed. i’m conflicted because he is my dad and i love him but i just want to have minimal contact and definitely no dependence. i know i can’t count on the money to come in time and it’s put me in bad situations.

i’m going for my masters or phd definitely. i would really like to go to another country or at least far away. i would ideally like to afford my own rent and somehow cancel all my insurance and make him take it on. i dont even drive these cars because my actual car is always broken down and i dont have the funds to fix it and neither does he. i’m so frustrated. i feel like a failure and im so embarrassed of my situation. i don’t even want my boyfriend or friends to get a whiff of this.

i’ll get paid with whatever i do, though minimally. i will apply for additional grants and scholarships and honestly i think im in a good position for them. i will make good money once i get to work it’s just a struggle to make it there.

additional: i don’t have any other family that can support me financially. i don’t have other family i can live with. i have minimal savings because my degree is very demanding and it’s hard to budget time during the school year to work - im going to try my best to TA this upcoming year.

i have an idea to gift my boyfriend for father’s day, but i don’t know if it’s overstepping

start by saying we’re 20, we don’t have kids. my boyfriend lost his dad when he was young, and i have a gift in mind but im not sure if it’s weird or sweet.

i really enjoy creating felt things, and one of my first gifts to him was a felt venus (he loves astro). i’ve been thinking that i would like to make a felt portrait of a photo of him and his dad. i asked my friend and she thought it was very sweet, i just don’t know if it’s a weird gift?

i’ve lost my mom, but i had a very complicated relationship with her so i can’t relate my feelings to his. i wouldn’t be offended or weirded out if someone did this for me, but i wouldn’t necessarily be touched beyond the fact that someone took the time to do it. thoughts?

my bsf shared an opinion and idk how i feel about our friendship now

brief context, we’re 20 and met at 15 in high school, we immediately clicked. i go to university a few hours away so we hardly see eachother (every couple months, more in the summer), but like this girl was without a doubt gonna be my MOH. she’s always had a different outlook on dating but i never questioned if she was a good person until now.

we were drinking wine in my hot tub, and she goes “can i share a newer opinion with you? i want your thoughts” and i said yeah of course. she asks me what i think of “girls girls” and i go, “well, i think it’s changed its meaning recently because people think you owe casual acquaintances the loyalty of never talking to their exes etc, but to me a ‘girls girl’ will just no matter what look out for another woman’s safety.” and whatever.

long story short, she goes on to tell me she doesn’t think there’s anything wrong with homewrecking. i went on about how i obviously disagree with cheating, but i don’t like how women will blame the “other woman” more than their actual boyfriend who cheated. i guess her mindset is rather “yeah, i owe the woman nothing and it’s not my fault if your man wants me.” she kept saying “like, are you happily married or just married?” which yeah is a funny joke, but then she went on to tell me how she was encouraging another friend to go after a taken man because she thinks he’s her soulmate. maybe im an avoidant but like why would you even want a man who doesn’t want you? why would you want a man who can cheat, you think he won’t do it to you eventually? idk her mindset was if you really think that’s your one and only, go for it. and i do often think “nothing matters so go for it and if you get rejected, who cares?” but this feels… different. idk ugh.

this whole thing has just left a sour taste in my mouth. she agreed if you’re friends with the girl it’s wrong, but i think even if you know hes in a relationship it’s wrong?? i have ocd so maybe im spiralling over nothing but im really questioning if i can be friends with her now. i’m so open to thoughts and discussion on this.

How do I best set up myself financially as a student?

i’m 20, have just finished my second year of my undergrad and am working a summer internship. I’m making $3100 a month here, and am looking into a second job for the weekends. I have a scholarship so my tuition is free, plus an extra 5k is deposited to me each year. I don’t work a job when I have classes but I’m looking to find one for fall - though it’d ideally be in a lab and it won’t pay much. Im also granted government assistance, made up both loans and grants.

I am definitely going to grad school, whether it be direct-entry PhD or masters and then PhD. I know these positions pay, but not very much. I’m looking for tips on how I can best utilize the money I do make so that I’m in a good position when I either go to grad school, or by time I’m done at the latest. My dad currently pays some of my rent but I don’t see that being sustainable especially if I go out of country to study. Some people might suggest I stay home to save money, but my field is rather niche and there are some top schools I’m eyeing right now.

I have a TFSA (tax free savings, in canada) and have a WealthSimple account set up but haven’t actually made any investments. I’m basically starting from scratch, any advice?

Should I take both general and subject GRE?

I’ve just finished my second year of undergrad and I’m focusing on making myself a strong grad school candidate. I’m studying physics in Canada, but I’m considering US or even European schools.

I’m wondering, should I take both the general GRE and the physics subject GRE? The GRE doesn’t seem to be as emphasized in Canada so I’m not really sure what the best option is here. Thanks!
