r/joysunday

Why I’m requesting r/joysunday and how I’ll run it: I would like to create a subreddit that is a community for Joy Sunday fans. A space to celebrate Joy Sunday's career, updates etc from her character on the show Wednesday to whatever projects she is part of next.

How did you spend your down time post-op?

I’m 4 days post-op from a robotic assisted laparoscopic myomectomy and I’m feeling like I’m wasting these two weeks of downtime. Like I should be finding things to do and not just sitting on the couch watching tv or reading. I’d love to hear how everyone spent their first two weeks post-op? I know there’s no right or wrong way to use this time but I feel like I’m doing it wrong.

Success Stories?

Looking for success stories. I’m scrolling this sub 2 days post-op and looking for something to put me in a more positive mindset. So far things have been relatively uneventful for me, but I definitely underestimated the discomfort I would experience post-op. I had a robotic assisted myomectomy on 8/13, 4 incision’s total. While in there they removed 6 fibroids (MRI only showed 4 so two were a surprise) and endometriosis.
When I first woke up from the anasthesia I felt great, not too much pain, but after using the restroom the pain started to kick in and it only got worse from there. My goal was to avoid using painkillers because I’m worried about constipation (and my favorite pain killer is an edible tbh) but I caved and used the oxycodone I was prescribed and the acetaminophen almost immediately and I’ll be holding off on marijuana until my system is clear of all the heavier stuff.

I’ve used a belly binder on and off the last couple days because I’m uncomfortable in different ways whether it’s on or off.
I’ve been scrolling this sub looking for success stories but I don’t see too many recently so I guess I’m just looking for someone to tell me it gets better/it will all be worth it? I know I made the right decision to get surgery, my symptoms were mostly bulk symptoms and as a yoga teacher not being able to lay on my stomach got really annoying really fast. But I’m seeing a lot of stories from people whose fibroids came back and I guess I’m now second guessing if I should have just had a hysterectomy. I’m 29 and I’m like 80% sure I want kids, but more than I want kids I want to be healthy and not have to do this multiple additional times in the future. So if someone out there has a success story I’d really like to hear it!

Why aren't we all more mad about the Emmys cutting these categories?

They’re moving supporting actor/actress in a limited series (plus directing and writing for limited series) off the actual broadcast this year and burying them in the untelevised Creative Arts show instead. This is the same category DTF St. Louis, Beef, and Monster have some of their best shots in this year. SAG, DGA and WGA have already made public statements but outside of that I’ve seen minimal buzz about the changes. Where are the comments from past winners in these categories? Where are the articles/interviews with nominees?

Why aren't we more mad about the Emmys cutting acting categories from the broadcast?

Supporting Actor/Actress in a Limited Series, plus Directing and Writing for a Limited Series, are all getting moved off the main telecast this year. SAG-AFTRA, the DGA, and the WGA dropped a statement condoning it, but I feel like I saw minimal backlash outside of that in the days after the announcement. I would’ve expected more pushback and maybe even winners in these categories from past years to say something publicly. Does this bother other people that much or is this just another one of those things?

Hunter x Joy red carpet

We got a Hunter and Joy red carpet moment for the Evil Dead Burn premiere (Joy went to support hunter), we almost got another one for the Emmys but it looks like that’s not happening now. RIP to the moment that could’ve been, I’m just waiting for S3 press to start at this point.

We’re being robbed of an Emma x Joy red carpet

I loved all of the Emma and Joy press that we got when season 2 came out, it would’ve been great to get more of that at the Emmys if the recent changes hadn’t nipped that in the bud ☹️

Some of DTF’s Emmy nomination categories won’t be airing

Both Linda Cardellini and Joy Sunday are nominated for Supporting Actress in a Limited Series for DTF St. Louis and that’s one of the categories no longer airing due to the cuts. Will there be any other way to see live reactions/winner announcement? I usually don’t watch award shows but I was excited this year just for DTF.

How to stop over-functioning in a relationship that is otherwise great?

I (29F) met my partner (30M) a little over a year ago. It was love at first sight/kiss/date/hand hold etc. 99% of the time the butterflies are still there. He makes me blush every day. I know he would walk over hot coals for me, fight a bear for me, insert himself between me and danger, wait on me hand and foot (which he has had to do on multiple occasions recently due to some medical issues I’m experiencing). You can insert any other hyperboles about the things he would do for me if he had to and I know he would do it. The love is there, the commitment is there, but sometimes I feel like I’m leading him around on a leash (and not in the fun way). I feel like I’m handling a lot of the mental/emotional work in the relationship, as far as scheduling plans and making sure we get where we need to be when we need to get there and also just general street sense. We’ve had pretty different life experiences, but we both wound up where we are by our own strengths for the most part (for example I worked my way through college, he did CC then a transfer to minimize college debt). But every time a situation, any situation pops up, he looks to me for clarity/answers and it’s starting to scare me for what it means for the future, for what it means to be partners, for what it means to one day have kids who rely on us to keep them alive.

Example 1: I’m having a medical emergency. Screaming in pain. In between screams he asks me which hospital he should drive me to, where my insurance card is, etc. I’m hunched over by the door ready to go to the ER, still moaning in pain, and he says he needs to brush his teeth before we leave (he’s doing Invisalign).

Example 2: He is currently unemployed. He’s been job hunting for 6+ months. It’s brutal out there, which I know firsthand having also been recently unemployed. He tells me he is not qualified for any of the jobs he sees, and there’s simply no jobs in our area (we live in a major U.S. city). Knowing how brutal it is out there right now, I asked what he’s doing outside of applications (ie reaching out to recruiters, hiring managers, friends, trying to freelance etc). He says nothing, because it’s awkward to do that and he’s never had to do that the one other time he job hunted.

My urge re: example 1, is to scream at the top of my lungs and fly my mom in to help me for future medical needs. But I want him to be someone I can rely on and he is eagerly offering to help me now, and in the future when I have a surgery that will make me very reliant on someone for a couple of days.

My urge re: example 2, is to take his resume apply to a bunch of jobs myself message a bunch of people myself and just keep at it until some interviews start rolling in. The fact that’s he’s been hunting for 6+ months and has not had one interview, not even one conversation with someone is baffling to me. And again, I know it’s rough out there but of the two of us he’s way more strict on money than I am so I would think he’d be on 1 trying to get a job, any job.

I have other examples but I worry this is already too into the weeds. To circle this back to the title/question of this post: how do I let this all go and just enjoy being with him? My therapists advice is generally that this will be a make or break time period for us, and that if I jump in and do stuff for him now (this relates specifically to job hunting as that’s what I’ve talked to her the most about, because him not finding a job has also changed our timeline for moving in together), then I will keep doing that forever and that’s not a good precedent to set. So I’m trying to just let things be let him figure things out on his own etc. But then I watch him go about things in ways that I can see aren’t working and I’m just thinking to myself “it doesn’t have to be this hard it doesn’t have to be this hard!”

He has a significant savings so he won’t go homeless or hungry anytime soon. Our finances aren’t entangled. I have a roof over my head, food in my house, work and hobbies that keep me occupied. Advice/help please? Happy to give other examples or answer any clarifying questions in the comments.

Traveling post Labroscopic Myomectomy?

I’m having a labroscopic myomectomy on 8/13. I’m fairly active currently, and will be adhering as closely as possible to a strict anti-inflammatory diet that my doctor recommended in addition to trying to really “healthy up” over the next month or so (date of posting is 7/14) with the goal of a speedy recovery. I’m planning on taking two weeks off work following the surgery to sleep and rest as much as possible and when I return to work it will be remotely for the four weeks following.

I have a ton of travel coming up later this year, starting with a West Coast to East Coast trip at the end of September, then a East Coast to Western Europe trip, about two weeks in Europe, then Europe to East Coast, East Coast back to West Coast.

Is there anything you wish you knew post-surgery when it came to travel? Is there any reason to hold off or reduce travel where possible? I’m planning on sharing my travel dates with my doctor to confirm there won’t be any issues but there will be exactly 6 weeks between the date of my surgery and the first flight.

Edit: In case it helps as well, I have two smaller fibroids that I don’t notice about 2 and 3 centimeters on the left, and one larger one about 11 centimeters on the right that is pedunculated. My main symptoms are bulk symptoms (bulging belly on the right, difficulty laying on stomach doing yoga etc)

I feel like I manifested this, I loved this show and I loved watching Joy and Richard act alongside each other in it. How likely do you think it is they get the win?
