Honest question... But why haven't Disney hired a few heavyweight Directors (with serious pedigree) to make their movies - like Steven Spielberg, David Fincher, James Cameron, Denis Villeneuve, Christopher Nolan etc?

I know that a lot of the directors mentioned would have very specific demands (such as final cut approval etc), but surely when one considers as to how much money Disney has, and how popular and reliable the directors are, then why can't Disney make an actual effort to work with them, and release an actual good product?

We haven't had a legitimately good Star Wars movie since Rogue One... And when you take into consideration as to how much time has elapsed since... The lack of serious quality control is a massive opportunity wasted.

I mean, it can't be THAT hard to make an actual good Star Wars movie... Not if you hire really good directors who actually care about the franchise (of which I am sure that there are many).

EDIT: that goes same for the writers also... As in, how hard can it be to actually get good writers on board for a franchise as popular and as beloved as Star Wars?

Honestly... When a regular job advert goes up, it usually gets hundreds of applicants... So taking that into consideration, it's not as if Star Wars / Disney are spoilt for (incredibly high quality) choice when it comes to directing / writing / acting etc talent.

I mean... I just don't understand how a company like Disney (with access to all that money and talent) can make a movie like "The Mandalorian and Grogu" and have it get such average reviews.

Honest question: how hard is it for Automatic to "modernise" WordPress and ensure that it meets the needs of web developers today?

Everyone complains that WordPress is "old" now, and isn't suitable for extensive (multi feature) websites - due to its "legacy code".

How hard would it be for Automatic (the parent company of WordPress) to modernise WordPress in order to ensure that the tech stack does meet the needs of people who want to undertake extensive custom work?

What are some books (and general tips) that you would recommend about standing out in the recruitment process?

As above... Especially if the job posting normally gets hundreds of applications.

How does one stand out when there is so much competition?

Is it better to for a company (with low overheads) to position itself in having more customers, or in having a better class of customer?

As above...

I understand that people don't want to say no to money, but at the same time, having lower quality customers will just result in having more headaches.

The reason as to why I ask is because I am looking to create an ecommerce website with a membership component.

For general onboarding, I am unsure as to whether to just use Stripe or use Stripe KYC (Know Your Customer).

For the membership, I definitely do want to use Stripe KYC (Know Your Customer).

So basically... Use Stripe KYC sparingly, or throughout the website?

What would you suggest?

EDIT: I am thinking about implementing the following:

  1. New Account + Simple Purchases (ie User Onboarding Process): Simple Stripe (but where trusted bank cards and not "pre-paid cards" are used) + basic fraud prevention.

  2. Membership: Stripe KYC (ensures high trust and anti-bot user legitimacy, including minimum age rating).

With Ebay possibly being acquired (and enshittified) by GameStop... I think that this opens up a credible opportunity for competing platforms to gain a foothold in the third party seller space.

Obviously, with WordPress having multi-vendor / third party seller plugins like Dokan and WCFM, how easy do you think it would be to build a suitably relevant platform using WordPress as the underlying tech stack?

What difficulties do you envisage in building and running such a website?

And for people who already have WordPress powered multi-vendor / third party seller sites, what's your experience in running such a operation?

So I tend to buy a LOT of stuff from Ebay (mainly books) and am quite happy with the platform... But with Ebay possibly being acquired by GameStop, I am wondering as to whether this will now open up the possibility for other businesses looking to get into the "third party seller" space, and whether we're going to see any startups emerge in the coming months.

What do you think? Do you think the average startup would want to consider getting into the "third party seller" space, and if so, what opportunities and threats do you see in their horizon?

I know that Rob Liefeld was a major star in his youth... But looking at his art now, it's really hard to imagine as to how he got to be so big back in the day. His work now is so painfully poor... And I say this as someone who really did like Rob Liefeld back in the day.

What caused Rob Liefeld to become so incredibly lazy in his latter years?

My only other Canon camera is the (rather "ancient") 350D... So the 5D Mark II is a significant upgrade in comparison.
