Hey everyone,
I am trying to install Linux Mint 22.3 Xfce on an old Lenovo IdeaPad 110 laptop, but I am stuck in a terrible boot/BIOS loop and desperately need some developer or expert help.
The Setup:
Laptop: Lenovo IdeaPad 110
Internal Storage 1: 128GB SATA SSD (Contains an old Windows installation with a forgotten password).
Internal Storage 2: 1TB HDD inside an optical drive Caddy.
Boot Media: SanDisk USB flashed with Linux Mint 22.3 Xfce.
The Problem:
Whenever I try to boot from the USB or even try to enter the BIOS Setup using the Novo Button (or Fn+F2/F2), the laptop just shows the Lenovo logo and loops/restarts continuously. It completely refuses to enter BIOS Setup or boot into the live USB.
Everything I have tried so far:
Isolated the Hardware: I completely removed the 1TB HDD (Caddy) AND physically removed the 128GB internal SSD. The motherboard is currently completely bare (no storage drives attached).
Flashing Settings: I have tried flashing the SanDisk USB using Rufus with both GPT (UEFI) and MBR (BIOS/UEFI-CSM) partition schemes.
The Loop behavior: Even with NO SSD and NO HDD connected, selecting "BIOS Setup" or "Boot Menu" from the Novo menu just triggers a Lenovo logo boot loop. If I select Boot Menu, it shows Windows Boot Manager and PCI LAN options, but selecting them or trying to force the USB just loops back to the logo.
Power Flush: Disconnected the charger and held the power button for 60+ seconds to drain static charge. (Note: The internal laptop battery pin is extremely tight/stuck, so I haven't been able to fully unplug the physical battery connector from the motherboard yet).
Windows Lockout: I cannot disable "Fast Startup" from within Windows because the OS on the SSD is password-protected, and the password was forgotten years ago. "Advanced Startup" from the Windows lock screen also fails to force the system into UEFI firmware settings.
It seems like Windows Fast Startup or a stubborn Secure Boot configuration has completely locked up the motherboard/NVRAM, and even removing the drives isn't breaking the loop.
Has anyone faced this issue with older Lenovo laptops?
Is there a way to force-clear the NVRAM/BIOS without destroying the motherboard connector, or a specific USB flashing method I am missing?
Any help would be highly appreciated!
Hey everyone,
Is it just my area, or has the infrastructure in Gurgaon completely collapsed over the last 24-48 hours?
Yesterday evening was an absolute nightmare. The grid issues got so bad that even the Metro shut down mid-route, and people literally had to walk on the tracks in pitch-dark to reach the station . Multiple sectors reported a total blackout.
But wait, it gets better (or worse). Look at my V-Guard inverter logs for today (23rd May). 65 power cuts in a single day! Sixty-five! The poor thing is basically playing musical chairs with the grid. It’s clicking on and off every few minutes. Total duration is over 6 hours of cuts, but the frequency is what’s going to fry everyone's appliances.
We pay premium rents, high maintenance, and massive taxes just to live in the "Cyber City," but the reality is we are running on heavy-duty backups and luck.
How are your areas holding up?
Is anyone else seeing this insane level of voltage fluctuation/tripping today?
Stay safe, and keep your sensitive electronics unplugged if you don't want them fried today!
The yellow line of the Gurugram section got badly stuck tonight. Walking on those tracks high above the ground is very very scary. I will be really pissed out.
