Technical performance: PS3 compared to Xbox 360

Ive been looking online but havent been able to find a concrete answer or video comparison. Which console runs the game better on the latest update? I remember having seen some stuff about the 360 version suffering with the latest updates, and something about the lighting and leaves being different. What are the technical differences?

Harassment in Public

Im pretty new to skating, only been doing it since like easter. What has already started to piss me off, is that nearly every time i go into a more public space, like a high street, with a skateboard, i will get some bullshit thrown at me. Today was particularly bad, there was a sports game at a stadium near me, and in the span of less than an hour, i got:

"Do a kickflip"

"Do a trick"

And some whiny bitch screaming "skater boy" after me.

All i want is that people leave me alone. I cant do tricks yet, im trying to learn how to. They ask me to do them when im in a crowded pavement, and im not a dog for you to order me to do tricks. People wouldnt like it if i were to yell "Sit, boy" at them either.

I don't mind it at skate parks. A kid asked me to do a kickflip there, but i didnt mind, since he was probably actually interested in seeing one in person instead of tiktok. Every time in public people ask me it, its not a child either, its a grown adult at least twice my age.

Whats your experiences with these annoying people, and how do you cope? Personally i just imagine doing their head in with my board. Im in the UK, how is it in other parts of the world?

Intentionally spawning on a beach

In some old forum posts I saw, I saw people talking about minecraft always spawning you on sand / on a beach in ~Alpha I think. They chalked it up to being a way of making the game feel like you've just washed up on the shore, though they mentioned it doesn't always work as intended, as you could spawn on a random pile of inland sand.

Is this something that was actually a feature? I haven't made enough alpha worlds to test it. If it was, when was it removed/changed?

If it actually did exist, I think its a very cool feature that adds some sort of story for the player to piece together. Also it would be good since when theres no major differences in biomes, you want easy access to a large body of water if you want a beach/lake house

Squads

Anyone know any squads that aren't picky on how regularly you play, or how often you interact with squad members? I don't really want to talk with strangers or anything, and I play 2-3 hours a week, but I know that even playing solo contributes to getting squad vehicle points. Any you would recommend that would be fine with that?

Exam emptiness

Anyone else feel really empty after a couple exams? I felt this way during GCSEs as well. The first few are always a little exciting, a little scary, which helps me revise due to mental pressure. Once I get a couple done, I just stop giving a fuck about anything. Study leave gets very monotonous, I stop giving a shit about how I do in my exams, and end up sitting around doing nothing more often.

Like with Edexcel Maths paper 1, I know I did shit which seems to be the regular view, but I can't bring myself to feel stress or anxiety or anything. It will come, but only once all my exams are done, while waiting for results, and it will get worse and worse like watching a tsunami get closer nearing results day.

Can anybody here relate? Its probably not too dissimilar to the stories of soldiers just accepting their fate after a bit of war, and losing their sense of self-preservation. I don't want A levels to drag on any longer. I've had enough. I want the results to come out the day of my last exam, so no matter the result, I can move on. I'm excited at the thought of going to uni, so it feels worse knowing I have the months of waiting for results, which may tell me that I have to go through fucking clearing which will spike cortisol levels to new heights and probably remove a decade from my lifespan, along with a cm from my hairline probably.

Minecraft cut-off updates - What do you guys think?

Hello, I have an interest in how minecraft changed over time. This isn't quite beta-specific, but I feel like you guys will appreciate it most. I hope you are all willing to read through this, and I am interested in what you have to say or add.

The updates have changed the game a lot, but most of the time the changes were gradual. The most extreme changes are obvious, like from beta 1.7.3 - 1.8, and release 1.8.9-1.9.

I won't really talk about much pre beta 1.7.3. There were obviously huge changes between versions like classic, infdev, alpha and beta, but I don't know it too well. The most notable change I can think of is the addition of beds in beta 1.3, which meant that you no longer had to stick through the whole night. Oh, and alpha 1.1.2, removing that beautiful neon grass.

  • Cut-off 1: Beta 1.7.3

The one everyone here is most familiar with. Beta 1.8 was part of the 2-part full release version of minecraft, and removed key features such as the old terrain generation, and added the new, flatter terrain gen, along with the hunger mechanic. The game shifted to being a bit more "realistic" from here; there were fewer fantasy-style world generation elements, and the "magic" of the game came less from the player's imagination, and more from set lore or elements, like an enchanting table, an end dimension, potions, etc.

  • Cut-off 2: Release 1.2.5

Honestly a more minor cut-off. Villagers in 1.3 were now entities you could trade with, which meant that if you wanted to, you could now reliably get certain items in a way that wasn't mining and crafting. Also something to be said about minecraft now having another live, "sentient" humanoid that shared the world with you. "Sentient" as they can make tools, cook food, etc. The world doesn't feel as much like a blank canvas that you discovered now, theres another human-like species.

  • Cut-off 3: Release 1.6.4

This update has 2 reasons to be a cut-off, one from an update standpoint, and another from the changes to the EULA that happened around the time. Mojang started to enforce the rules on servers not being able to charge real-world money, for an in-game advantage. Some servers went under, and even servers as large as Hypixel lost their main source of income.

The update was also the last you could call a "pure" version of minecraft, if you will. Every item had a purpose, they didn't really overlap, and the cave generation was still the same as release. Horses were added, which some don't like, but I think are fine, as they exist in a seperate niche to minecarts or boats. A horse is better for erratic exploration on land, while a minecart rail is a piece of infrastructure that beats it when travelling between set distances. Boats are the only transport for water. I say it is the last "pure" version, as 1.7 would add new biomes and wood types, which some would deem as unnecessary feature bloat. 1.8 would add things like diorite, andesite and granite, which for most people were 3 spaces in the inventory better filled with cobble.

  • Cut-off 4: Release 1.8.9

Combat changes and elytra. Elytra are still weak and cannot use fireworks as boosters (added in 1.11.1), or eternally be repaired by mending, but are still present as a much more effective alternative to any sort of previous travel if you glide from a high surface, or if you use a knockback bow to propel yourself like some did. The combat changes are something everyone knows about, hit cooldowns, shields, etc. Though shields weren't always as OP as they are now; initially they only blocked a 1/3 of melee damage if i remember correctly, so they only fully defended against projectiles. Also mending was added in 1.9.

  • Cut-off 5: Release 1.12.2

The last version of the game with any effort put into performance (why 2b2t stuck here for so long). Also later updates affected modding, which caused many, many mods to stay at 1.12.2. Notable as it is the last equivalent update that the Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and Nintendo 3DS versions of minecraft got any content from. Also the last version before the "renaissance" era of minecraft, with no major changes to anything in the game since 1.8.9.

  • Cut-off 6: Release 1.13.2

The last update for the legacy console verisons, Xbox 360, PS3 and Wii U. (PS4 ended at 1.14 due to Sony being fussy with cross-play with other consoles). Last update where the gameplay loop was mostly unchanged since release, the "meta" of the game was the same, and the textures were still the older versions (although some had been changed multiple times between here and the early days). Key changes to come would drastically change gameplay, like a new top tier of equipment, Minecraft Slavery Edition™ where the only efficient way to get full maxxed out equipment is enslaving villagers in a trading hall for gear and enchanting books. Also 1.14 would add ways to infinitely AFK farm emeralds and Totems with raid farms.

- Side note: 1.13 is the last version of Minecraft that I would truly consider to be a more "classic" version. The changes in 1.14 led to people's attitude to the game changing, less creativity and more grind, culminating in the 2 week minecraft phase

  • Cut-off 7: Release 1.16.5-1.17

A release that I have gone back to and played quite a bit on, as I have nostalgia for the COVID lockdown days where I played a lot on a server with friends, and is the last update I cared about.

Although much of the game has changed, the terrain is still mostly similar to that from release, wide plains and occasional hills/mountains. You still strip-mine at y11/12 to get diamonds. The Caves and Cliffs update after this would drastically change the terrain, in a way that I would consider negative. Old mining encouraged using the sandbox element of the game, if there is a threat, you can block them off in the tighter spaghetti caves. In the new, larger caves, you have to spam torches, strip-mining is slow as shit due to deepslate and is less effective, you can't find all your ores reliably at the same y levels, caves are huge caverns that lead to you getting swarmed by mobs and you can easily see diamonds from across the cave, though its normally a single, lonely, sad little diamond, robbed of its companions in the beautiful multiple diamond veins of the past. The cliffs are very pretty to look at and put on pinterest, but are terrible to climb up, and even worse to build on.

If you made it this far, thank you very much for reading through all that I put down. I wanted to share my thoughts about the game that I have been playing for about 10 years now, and grew up alongside. I would like to hear what your opinions are, if you agree/disagree on what I have to say, etc.

Controller advice

Are there any good 3rd party controllers at all? Dualshock 3s are a little expensive for a used controller, for a 2nd controller are there any you'd recommend? Also are there any disadvantages at all other than not being able to use the home button for a dualshock 4?

What CFW to use

In preparation to buying a PS3 I have been looking through the installation process for CFW. What is the difference between CEX, PEX and D-PEX, and is Evilnat the best CFW pick? This is quite confusing to me, I've only homebrewed a 3ds before and there was 1 type of CFW.

Playstation Age Verification in the UK

Does anybody know if this will affect PS3? If you don't verify, Sony said that you might lose voice/text chat, and in game messaging too. Is there any way that this could affect PS3 online games, or due to the way they are coded are they unable to restrict it?

Dilemma

I'm considering getting a PS3 Slim CECH-20xx/21xx for full CFW. But they are quite hard to find on ebay, and I've heard the 20xx models still have a risk of YLOD.

Otherwise, there are plenty of super slims that are in better condition, are cheaper, and would have basically no YLOD risk. But I know that theres only HEN.

Is it worth getting the super slim? I know some people hate the design, but I think its pretty cool. I'd probably be using the CFW/HEN for playing ISOs, and perhaps playing on custom servers for games if they exist. Would there be any issue with doing that with HEN?

So many of the games I want to play are dirt cheap at CEX, but then theres some which are practically impossible to find, which is why I'd like to be able to play from files.

Thanks for the help!
