Does anyone know what happened to VictoriaMarchantKnits?

I was looking on Ravelry and found some of her patterns. The size range and pattern format is incredible, and I would love to knit many of her designs. However, all of her patterns are discontinued, her website is hacked by an Indonesian scam site, and all her social media has been deleted. As far as I can tell, her last design was Oct. 2024. Does anyone know if she's okay or what happened?

South Indian historical fiction?

Are there any books that take place in South India/Sri Lanka that really capture the atmosphere? I would love historical fiction especially - *The Adventures of Amina Al-Sirafi* is one of my favorite books and I would love to find a South Indian equivalent. I also like books from Tasha Suri. However, I'm open to modern day fiction as well, including literary fiction.

I feel like the culture is so different from North India or the rest of South Asia and I've never read a book that captures it well.

For reference, South India covers Andhra Pradesh, Telanagana, Karnataka, Kerala, and Tamil Nadu, along with a couple of territories. Generally, the landscape is wetter and greener, the languages are very different from North India, and the culture is vastly different as well.

WHY IS EVERYTHING I KNIT A 20 STITCH GAUGE THIS CANNOT BE POSSIBLE

I've swatched four WILDLY different yarns in the past month on vastly different needles and they all hit at a 20st gauge??? Two unraveled thrifted sweaters, a handspun that's crazy and slubby and fun, and now Kremke Jeans yarn. Why are they all 20 stitches???? I'm knitting one project on a size 9 and one on a 4???? What is happening???? I'm so confused. This is what I get for swatching, I guess.

My first natural dye experiment!

I can't believe this used to be white?? 92g of unraveled thrift store merino, dyed with ~150g of glossy buckthorn berries, 55g of the leaves, and a sprinkle of goldenrod I accidentally dropped in the bowl. Boiled everything together, then simmered the yarn for an ~45 minutes. No mordant - I saw one post argue that buckthorn berries are tannic and will hold, and I'm honestly not worried about it being washfast or lightfast. I'm shocked at this color, though! It's a beautiful gray purple in real life. Going to use it in a colorwork yoke sweater with the rest of the unraveled white!

Please recommend me books for my 2hr commute

I just started a new job and my commute is over 2 hours, which means lots of time for audiobooks. I've been in a reading slump for months now, and would love interesting, shorter (under 400 pages/9 hours) recommendations. Would especially love romance, mystery, horror, magical realism/urban fantasy, characters of color, and LGBTQ+ characters.

Some favorites:

Gideon the Ninth

Cosmic Love at the Multiverse Hair Salon

Anything by Sarah Gailey Frey (River of Teeth, The Echo Wife, Just like Home)

Anything by Silvia Moreno Garcia (Silver Nitrate, Mexican Gothic)

Yellowface

Mysterious, single-subject nonfiction: the Feather Thief, Playing Possum, etc.

HOW do I have fradulent charges on a card I haven't even received yet?????

On Wednesday, I got a notification that there was a fradulent charge on my account, so I immediately cancelled my card. My new card shipped out yesterday morning. Today, I got another notification that there was a fraudulent charge (to the same company) ON MY NEW DEBIT CARD THAT I HADN'T RECEIVED YET. HOW??????

When I called my bank, they said that some recurring charges can call Mastercard/Visa to request updated card info, but this isn't a recurring charge! It's been fradulent both times.

Tagged as advice because I'm genuinely so confused as to how this can happen. My bank has blocked the company, but they seem to be reputable, so it must be something else going on. Does anyone know how this is possible?

Looking for an apartment along the Red Line (please y'all)

Hey guys! I'm 22f, starting a tech job downtown, and looking for an room along the Red Line, preferably in Cambridge or Somerville. My budget is up to $1800, but ideally I'd love to stay between $1300-1500. No car, no pets, and I'm okay with schlepping to a laundromat every so often.

About me - I'm a pretty normal roommate, keep to myself but I think I'm friendly. Definitely would prefer LGBTQ+ roommates, or at least people who are chill about gay people. I'm a good cook who often makes big servings, and I love to sew, read, and knit. I've had some really weird housing stories and a ton of things fall through at the last minute, so I would just like a calm, chill, normal housing situation. Thanks y'all!

My most recent spin (please critique!)

100g of Malabrigo Cloud! I'm still a fairly new spinner and only have a drop spindle, so this is my most even and thinnest spin to date. I'd love critique or advice on how to get more consistent or just any other tips that would be helpful! Thank you!!

I graduated - what happens to mail?

My dad ordered a package to my on-campus address, but I graduated this semester. I tried to call the RSD, but kept getting their stock message about being closed in the summer. Is it going to be returned to sender?

WLW detective/mystery novels?

Any recs for noir style wlw mystery novels? Huge, huge points if one is actually messed-up, self-destructive, and a loner the way men usually are in the genre. Thank you!!

Claudie repaints?

Hi y'all! I'm heavily considering getting Claudie as a grad gift, but I don't love her eyebrows + lip color + lashes. Has anyone done a little bit of customizing or a repaint? I would especially love to see if anyone has done line eyebrows on her

New brand alert! I got my sample set from The Midnight Visions and I'm so excited!! First of all, the packaging???? Insane. It also came with a full size post card of a medieval knight and a piece of licorice, both of which my girlfriend immediately stole. Shipping was also really fast - like a three day TAT, maybe 4?

The sample set is all references to the '60s and '70s medieval revival, which is so cool.

Flower Power: Top Notes: Incense, Spiced Tonka Bean & Forbidden Fruit, Heart Notes: Smokey Amyris Wood, Wild Jasmine & Warm Tobacco, Base Notes: Censer Ash, Virginia Cedarwood & Resinous Musk. On me, this is a sweet soapy jasmine with some vanilla and a woody base. My skin amps vanilla and woods A Lot - on paper it's more complex, smokey, and woodsy. Really pretty, generally inoffensive, smells like an expensive Indian soap.

Velvet Venus: Top Notes: Butterfly Wings, Dusty Vanilla & Rich Espresso, Heart Notes: Worn Leather, Dirty Paintbrushes & Stretched Canvas, Base Notes: Vintage Wooden Furniture, Oud & Warm Radiant Musk. Pretty and piney! This goes on leathery, smokey, and musky, and then turns into a true pine sap scent before fading into a soft vanillic musk. Definitely a more "masculine" scent - this to me is something I'd wear on a date to a dive bar or stargazing. My girlfriend grew up in rural New England and said it reminds her of home.

Dream Weaver: Top Notes: Wet Ink, Lichen & Candlestick, Heart Notes: Aged Amber, Coconut Wax & Salty Sea Mist, Base Notes: Earthy Oakmoss, Dry Driftwood & Etherial Musk. My least favorite and the most interesting? This is a salty, summery, coconut scent. It's what I think a PNW or NorCal surfer would actually smell like. It's definitely not a sweet coconut, but the DNA is present, it's not aquatic but it's salty and reminds me of the ocean, it's not light but I would only wear it in the summer. There's definitely a wood element the longer it dries down, but it's closer to real driftwood than any perfume "wood" scent. I smelled this on someone else, I'd be so confused. I'm confused smelling it on myself. I think I like it?
