[ESPN] Timberwolves seeking leap to NBA's top tier, team president Tim Connelly says | "We know our competition is not going to sit still, and nor will we," Connelly said. "If we mess up, we'll mess up loudly. We're going to try to be as aggressive as possible."
Source 1 – The Associated Press (AP), filed through ESPN:
>The message to the Minnesota Timberwolves from the championship tier of the NBA has been delivered clearly and forcefully with their elimination from the playoffs three straight times: You're not there yet.
>Nobody was listening more carefully than Tim Connelly.
>"We have a lot of confidence in our guys, but it would be disingenuous to sit in front of this group and say we're happy with the sixth seed, we're happy with not being a home-court playoff team, we're happy that our last three closeout games have been lopsided," the Timberwolves president of basketball operations said Tuesday during his season-ending news conference.
>"We have to be realistic about what we have, which is way more good than bad, but we know that we're not good enough right now."

>"We know our competition is not going to sit still, and nor will we," Connelly said. "If we mess up, we'll mess up loudly. We're going to try to be as aggressive as possible."
>The Timberwolves have the 28th overall pick in the first round and the 59th overall pick in the second round in this year's draft, assets that won't move the needle much in trade talks, so they will likely have to give up a key player or two to get one. The other disadvantage they have in building the roster for next season is the Achilles tendon injury to starting guard Donte DiVincenzo that will keep him out indefinitely in the final year of his contract.
Tobias's future on this team
It sounds like Trajan wants Tobias back.
But in what capacity? Should he be a starter? And how much should his contract be? He currently makes 26M. Assuming we sign Duren to some kind of extension, Tobias can't make that much again given his age.
I'd think somewhere just above MLE is still fair - $16M a year. It was clear that he was losing steam in the playoffs, he's getting up there in age. I'm wondering if he'd accept being a 6th man.
Stew for Cam
Denver - gets a back up for Jokic and they can cut Val who has a non-guaranteed contract. In total, this saves them $23M to help re-sign Watson and stay out of the aprons.
Detroit - Reed has proven to be perfectly capable as a back up center. They get another shooter to help the offense. They have a TPE that can absorb Nnaji to help entice Denver.
Isaiah Stewart discussion
How are people feeling about Stew after his 1st playoff run?
I was pretty disappointed in him outside of a few Orlando games. I am not going to give him an injury excuse because 1. he should be on the injury report given other players were on it 2. if his injury is detrimental to the team, JB shouldn't have played him.
He made a lot of dumb mistakes that weren't injury related like fouling on a FT attempt.
We need better from our center rotation in future playoff runs.
Finished ZZ recently, I think Judau's the GOAT
- Steals a legendary war machine easily
- Pilots said machine and beats out a Zeon officer
- Bodies Wong and "corrects" him
- A good older brother
- Like by everyone around him
- Kind, empathetic, down to earth
- Resists Haman's attraction
- Turns 2(!) Ple's
- Has a harem around him
- Lives in the end
I'm at a crossroads, who we hate watching?
Thunder win - start of a dynasty
Spurs win - rewarding the luckiest lottery franchise ever
Knicks win - they're rats
Cavs win - eh, I guess Harden is fat, but they're alright
The Pistons averaged 88.4 per 100 possessions in the playoffs when Duren and Ausar shared the court
They need to take a step forward offensively, or they can't co-exist.
What is a win-win contract for Duren?
I think 3 years/100M is palatable for me. It's around the same number as Sengun, another young center and also the same contract as Julius Randle.
I think this can be win-win because it's not long term for the Pistons, so there's less risk, it's more than what they offered JD last summer, and JD can be eligible for another extension when he's just 25.
Was Pistons GM Trajan Langdon right when he called this an evaluation year?
Before the season, Langdon called this year an evaluation year. There's two reasons for that, 1. Jaden Ivey and Jalen Duren were set to become restricted free agents this summer and they didn't agree to a contract extension for either. So Langdon wanted to see their market value. 2. The core hadn't won a playoff series, let alone a home playoff game yet.
I think he could have made a bigger splash at the trade deadline, but he might have wanted to see if Duren could have been the #2 in the playoffs to Cade. Now he has the data, but it was costly to acquire with getting blown out in Game 7.
OKC vs Spurs - how will the defensive assignments play out?
- I think Wemby and Hartenstein guard each other when they're on the floor together. When Hart sits, Wemby takes Chet or Jwill if he gets playing time.
- Castle gets first crack at SGA. But I could see the Spurs rotating bodies at him including Johnson, Bryant, and Champagnie.
- On the opposite side, I think Dort would take Fox primarily and then when Fox sits, he'll take "whoever" has the ball between Castle/Harper. That would mean JDub probably guards the other guard on the court.
- Shai will "hide" (he's still a good defender) on Vassell or Champagnie. Vassell may tire him out with the constant movement and relocations, but it's still better than asking him to guard point of attack.
- Chet gets to free roam, especially if Johnson or Bryant is on the floor as they have less 3PT pedigree.
How do you guys see it playing out? And possible adjustments throughout the series?
What was Tomino's intention with Beecha?
To show scumbag's can be redeemed?
It doesn't feel like he earned the position of captain. Yet he got that and presumably got together with Elle, too.
Knicks fans for some reason after a game the Knicks didn't play in
you'll play basketball when we say so
