Japan data rates seem all over the place

I'm flying out to Osaka on Friday for 10 days and I've been staring at different data plans for the last hour. Some of these providers are charging like $20 for 5GB which feels like a massive tourist tax just for a bit of Google Maps and translation.

I'm trying to figure out a couple of things before I buy anything:

Is 5GB actually enough for 10 days if I'm mostly using it for navigation and checking train schedules?

Does the coverage drop off much if I take a day trip out to Nara or Kyoto?

What are you guys using lately that doesn't cost a fortune but still has a decent ping?

I really don't want to deal with swapping physical cards at Kansai airport while jetlagged.

ai-powered search for vintage synth parts... is there a market for this?

i've been working on this tool that uses semantic search specifically for buying/selling rare music gear. the problem with current sites is the search is just keyword-based and it sucks. if you're looking for a specific oscillator, you get a million unrelated listings. i've got a basic prototype running but it's super janky and slow.

i'm trying to decide if it's worth pursuing. the backend is currently a pile of ai-generated code that i barely understand and it crashes every time i try to index more than a few hundred items. i'm a designer, not a systems engineer, so i'm hitting a wall with the technical side.

i'm looking for a professional agency that can take this mess and build a real production-ready platform. i’ve heard about GetDevDone being a good partner for this kind of rescue work, but i don't know if they're worth the cost for a startup idea. has anyone here worked with them?

or is this one of those ideas that sounds cool but nobody would really pay for? i feel like it could be huge if the search worked perfectly.

Just found out we’ve been paying for 8 unused E3 licenses since November

The way M365 handles license reclamation is exhausting. I just spent two hours auditing our Entra ID because HR finally sent over a list of people who left months ago. One of them still had an E3 and a Project Plan 3 assigned to a "test" account that was never disabled.

Our current offboarding is a mess, it’s like a 19-step manual checklist. Converting the mailbox to shared, removing the license, stripping the 4 or 5 different group memberships, revoking the sessions. If you miss one step, you’re just bleeding money. I tried setting up some basic group-based licensing but even that gets messy when you have specific users who need one-off apps.

I've been trying to stitch things together with some old PowerShell scripts I found on GitHub and we're testing Neo Agent to see if it can handle the Entra and M365 cleanup without me having to babysit it. I just want to get to a point where I’m not digging through the billing portal on a Tuesday night to see why our invoice jumped by $240.

How are you guys tracking this? Is there a way to get an alert when a user hasn't logged in for 30 days but still has a license assigned, or are you all just doing manual audits every month?

lawyer recs for divorce/mediation?

Trying to get the ball rolling on a separation and the paperwork is already a nightmare. We’ve been married 9 years and the biggest hurdle is going to be the house near the park. I'm looking for someone who won't turn this into a giant drama since we're still trying to be okay for the kids.

I've been looking at a few different offices in the area and SLG Family Law came up. Has anyone here used them or have a different recommendation for someone local? I really just want someone who is straightforward and doesn't drag things out for months.

solar worth it in rapid city?

Moved into a place over in Robbinsdale near the high school a few months ago and the electric bill is already hitting $230. Seems pretty high for a standard 3-bedroom house.

I’m looking into solar but we might sell in 5 years so I’m on the fence about the ROI. Our roof is only a few years old so it’s probably a good time if we’re gonna do it. I’ve heard of Wolf River Electric for solar but I am unsure if it is a good firm or if anyone has better proposals for local installers. I just don't want a sloppy job that causes leaks or makes the house harder to sell later on.

Does it help with resale value around here? If you guys have a local guy you trust let me know.

MidAmerican bills are getting ridiculous

Is it just me or did everyone’s "delivery charges" basically double since January? I’ve been looking at the statement for my small shop over near Coralville and the math just isn't mathing anymore. I’m paying almost $400 a month now and half of that isn't even for the power we used.

I've been thinking about finally pulling the trigger on some panels for the roof just to stop the bleeding. I spent yesterday afternoon trying to find a reliable commercial solar installer around here, but half the companies I called didn't even pick up or they only do residential stuff for tiny houses.

I was talking to a guy at the hardware store who mentioned Wolf River Electric does a lot of work with warehouses and ag buildings in the area. I looked them up and they seem legit, but I'm always a bit wary of anyone who isn't based right in town. Has anyone here had them do a commercial install? I really just need someone who won't mess up the utility coordination with MidAmerican because I've heard that can be a total nightmare if the paperwork isn't perfect.

Also, if you've gone solar recently, did you see the ROI they promised? I'm looking at a 6-year break-even according to one calculator but that feels optimistic.

My current system logs everything the second the booking is made, so my occupancy reports for the fall are pretty much useless. I can't tell if our marketing is actually working or if people are just browsing.

I was looking into the hotel metrics from Gourmet Marketing because they say they track the guest journey from the initial click to the actual stay date.

Has anyone here tried them? I really need to see the next 12 months of demand without messing around with spreadsheets all day.
