Panhypopituitarism and anti depressants therapy.

Hi, i am male 35y dealing with panhypopituitarism from 5 years. I have never been a part of any online discussion group for help and support untill recently i started using reddit to find some mental health support.

My diagnosis from pituitary stalk biopsy showed lymphocytic hypophysitis and i was put on replacement for most hormones except GH which is still under consideration. I take following replacements

Testosterone
Hydrocortisone
Levothyroxine
Desmopressin
My GH is low but dctrs won’t give the replacement due to expensive and may be not critical in my case.

I have come to this group to seek some feedback about mental health. Since my diagnosis and treatment i have been dealing with anxiety and low mood. Recently i started having panic attacks and insomina. After psychiatric review i was put on zoloft 50mg and seroquel 25mg for sleep. The treatment did help to some extent but i may need to up the dose in future. I have had some unpleasent experiences in the past with hydrocortisone and testosterone where they caused me restlessness and elevation of mood. I have this fear in my mind that an antidepressant treatment may cause the similar episodes in my case as zoloft is slightly activating.

Has anyone in this group delat with detereorating mental helth and used any therapy that helped.
Please provide your insight. Thanks

Noticing slow reflexes after 10 weeks on zoloft.

I don’t know how to descibe this feeling in a better way but i will try my best.

I am in week 10 of zoloft 50mg and things were going ok untill recently i started noticing that my reflexs are a little slow, or as someone might say that my mind and body are not synchronizing, particularly my arms.

I noticed it initially while playing badmintion and also while driving that concioualy or subconciouly my arms and hands are not functioning as quickly as mind wants them to be.

Can anybody relate to this experience ?

Week 6 Strong effects

Week 6 of 50mg. Anxiety comperatively a lot less, panic almost nill.

Somedays i feel like i am in overdrive, not physically but just mentally like something when you take a mild stimulant or like may be lots of cups of coffee. These feelings last for hours, currently they are manageable but keeps me uncomfortable or unable to releax.

Will they be stronger or fading in coming weeks ?
What could be done ?

Any thoughts?

Reducing dose, need guidence.

My doctor advised me to reduce sertraline from 50mg to 25mg. Just been on 50mg for 4 weeks but dosen’t seem like it’s going to suit me as i was getting in to hyperactive state.

Please guide if any side effects are anticipated in coming days, If so, how to manage and how long can they last ?

Sertraline stimulation

I am in 1st week of using 25 mg sertraline for anxiety. mostly i felt restlesness and irrtability so far.

Had few short phases where it felt stimulating.

What can i expect in coming weeks. Does the irritability or restlessness go away ? and also the stimulating part does it get too intense sometimes? has anyone experienced anything like it ?

I take TRT and cortisol replacent with hydrocortisone. I have a fear that sertraline may cause overstimulation/ inpulsivity in my case.

Has anyone got any thoughts on this or real experience ? how intese can it be with all medicine used together?

Also any suggestion if there are any meds that can calm the impulsivity if combined them with sertraline.

In 4th week of zoloft, need guidence.

1st week 25mg then onwards 50mg. Just started 4th week, still dealing with the side effect like restlessness in arms and legs, anxiety and terrible sleep so using some sleep aid.

My question is what can i expect onwards as i have experienced some moments where zoloft is kiking in pretty good and gives real positive vibes. Does it keep getting better to some next levels or just settles pretty much with mood stablisation ?

Furthermore, what do i have to watch for? Is it going to get even intense? Also what sort of signs are worthy to notice and mention to my psychiatrist.

Thanks heaps.

Lamotrigine + quetiapine therapy instead of ssri’s for depression and anxiety induced by hormones replacement.

Hi guys,

I had pitiuitary stalk surgery few years ago, currently I am on hormone replacement with testosterone, hydrocortisone, levothyroxine and anti diuretic hormone. I tolerate these medications alright but time to time levels/dosage change due to which I have been restless, agitated and euphoric at times.
These experiences gave me a continuous loop of anxiety and fear of reocurrence. I have lived with this fear and anxiety for 4 years and now it has come to a point where i am getting anxiety and panic attacks, mood swings with phases of depression, panic and fear. At this point my doctors (GP & Endocrinologist) have told me that i need to take long term psychiatric treatment which i was avoiding for a while.

I have consulted with couple of psychiatrists now, their remarks are that in my case normal ssri’s will have a tendency to cause mania/hypomania due to my steriods use and from my previous history with hormone replacement (i am not bipolar by the way).
They are suggesting a combination therapy with lamotrigine (lamictal) and quetiapine to lift depression and anxiety but also to take caution againt mania/hypomania.

Lamictal 50-100mg
Quetiapine 25mg

Now my question to you fellows who unfortunately may have been through similar journey, what sort of medication can suit my situation. Can i try only ssri’s 1st ? or should it be a combination therapy as per the psychiatrists remarks.
Thank you in advance for your input.
