31M UK - This is excessively yappy and I apologise in advance
I've never really understood how best to approach this sort of thing. My immediate inclination is to try and display my very best qualities while trying to obscure my worst ones, but this makes me feel like a dishonest used car salesman trying to tinker with an odometer, so I'm just going to present myself as I am - flaws and all - and hope that my person might be in the market for a flawed-but-good-natured used car/person.
I'm 184cm, and I'm currently a heavier fella at 284lbs. I've lived in the UK for most of my life now, but I have an American accent owing to my time living abroad. I've lived in several cities around the country, and as of a few months ago, I was based in Lancashire, but I recently had to move to Yorkshire to look after my mum, who is currently experiencing a period of ill health. I'm not particularly sure where I'll be in the future, but I do consider Yorkshire my home.
I have a degree in the humanities, and I've fashioned myself a decent career in IT. While I'm grateful for the stability it provides, it's not something I'm particularly passionate about, and I very much work to live instead of living to work.
I'm quite introverted, and feel most comfortable and happy in my own company. I have a small network of friends that I see regularly, love dearly, and for whom I would do absolutely anything, but I've never been one for large-scale socialisation or meeting lots of new people.
I enjoy films, and have had the privilege of visiting all of the major European film festivals over the last few years, and I'm very partial to a good book. My favourite film is The Big Lebowski, and my favourite book is The Count of Monte Cristo. I have a small but growing library of books that I'm trying to neglect less, but it's becoming harder to find the time these days. Other hobbies and interests include cooking new recipes without aggravating the fire alarm, swimming, going for walks in the countryside with a coffee.
I've recently discovered that I do quite enjoy solo travel, and will often potter around cities in the continent when I have a bit of spare time. I was planning to go to Paris in a few weeks, but I'm currently dealing with an ear infection, and my doctor isn't too keen on my flying because of the risk of perforating my eardrum, so I'm trying to arrange for a rescheduling through my travel insurer.
I'm agnostic, I generally lean to the left with regard to my politics, and I don't drink alcohol of consume any recreational drugs. I like to think I'm calm, mature, responsible, reliable, and very deliberate and intentional in my thoughts and actions. I'm quite loyal to and protective of the people in my life, and I generally try my best to be a better person than I was yesterday.
I'm very firmly in the I-don't-want-children camp, and while I'm keen on being monogamous, I'm not really sure about how I feel regarding marriage, and/or whether a contract with the government is the most appropriate demonstration of one's commitment to someone they love - perhaps this is because I've never really seen a healthy one among my family and friends.
I'm going to stop this slightly indulgent ramble now and briefly share some thoughts regarding the sort of person I'm hoping to find. I don't have a long, arbitrary list of requirements, but alongside the whole child-free thing, I would prefer if you were between the ages of 25 and 35, based in the UK for logistical ease, and are generally a pleasant, affable person who, while not perfect, tries their best to do what they feel is right & spread some light in our darkening world.
If you've managed to get through this word salad, firstly, my commiserations; secondly, drop me a message and let's have a chinwag.

xcancel.comHas Oleksandr Usyk lent his team to Anthony Joshua to prepare for Tyson Fury?
I know AJ spent some time in Ukraine with Usyk this year, which I didn't think much of, but I couldn't help but notice that he had Usyk's coach (Iegor Golub) and manager (Sergey Lapin) in his corner for his fight against Kristian Prenga a few weeks ago. They also appear to have been involved in his training camp for the fight according to his their Instagram pages.
I need advice about handling fatigue
I've been diabetic for a few years now. I've lost weight and started using Mounjaro, and my A1C is currently near the normal range, indicating it's being managed reasonably well.
Unfortunately, I'm having a hard time with fatigue. This is particularly pronounced after meals - even when I eat a negligible amount of carbs & my blood sugar remains within range. I've now taken to fasting until after I'm done with the work day to avoid crashes. This week I've been hit with the flu, and I've genuinely struggled to get out of bed in the last few days.
I've done bloodwork and there are no clear deficiencies. I drink plenty of water, and try to eat well.
I was wondering if anyone has dealt with this & can offer some wisdom? Any advice would be very much appreciated.
31 [M4A] #UK - In an transitional period in my life & looking for some new friends
I'm a 31-year-old black Brit with an odd American accent acquired from my time abroad. While I do have a collection of much-loved, in-person friendships, I'm most comfortable in my own company. When the urge to expand my network of friends rears its confused little head, I try to satiate it.
A not-so-brief ramble about myself and things currently pinging around in my head:
- I moved back to my "hometown" in the north of England last month after a bad year spent in another city, and I started a new job a few weeks ago. I put hometown in quotations because although I've lived there for most of my life at this point, I spent my adolescence abroad
- I impulsively booked a solo trip to Paris next month because I think it's a bit odd that I've been to several cities in France but not the capital. I'm also staying in a really crappy hostel to keep the trip cheap - my last stay in a really crappy hostel left me in the hospital, so I'm looking forward to what this new experience will bring. Maybe I'll be bludgeoned with a stale baguette?
- I sued Uber just under a month ago, and their lawyers got back to me with a settlement offer on Friday. I'm in two minds as to whether I should accept. I really should, as they have pretty much offered everything I requested in my suit, but a curious voice in my head is encouraging me to take it to court
- I impulsively shaved off my Afro over the weekend - I regret it very much
If this word salad suggests to you that I may be a worthwhile friend, firstly, I apologise profusely and hope your sense of judgement improves; secondly, drop me a message and let's have a chinwag.
31M - In an transitional period in my life & looking for some new friends
Today is first day in what seems like a while where I don't seem to need my electric fan or several cold showers, so I'm taking this as a good omen for the remainder of the week!

31M - Please talk me out of shaving off my Afro
I'm winding down after a long week at my new job, I'm currently nursing a low-grade fever, and I'm spending my Friday evening downing mugs of ginger tea and trying to ignore an intense urge to shave off my Afro. I don't know why I feel like I need to do this. I'm going down to our London office and meeting my new colleagues for the first time next week, and I really don't want to show up with a shiny bald head.

I put hometown in quotations because although I've lived there for most of my life at this point, I spent my adolescence abroad & speak with an American accent
- I've impulsively booked a solo trip to Paris in six weeks because I think it's a bit odd that I've been to several cities in France but not the capital. I'm also staying in a really crappy hostel to keep the trip cheap - my last stay in a really crappy hostel left me in the hospital, so I'm looking forward to what this new experience will bring. Maybe I'll be bludgeoned with a stale baguette?
- I accidentally burned a pot of mushroom risotto last night, and despite my best efforts, the kitchen still smells vaguely of burned arborio rice, which has elicited deep feelings of shame, so I've ordered a pizza to eat for the day (which has elicited even more shame)
- I'm currently fighting the impulse to shave off my Afro (please talk me out of it)
