Legit took 2 minutes of applying heat around thr barrel by the receiver end. Genuinely put on on of my shows and propped up my phone for the long haul. Started smoking out of the receiver which was a good sign, turned a little, and I gave it some more heat and it came clean off without a fight. Cleaned off the red loctite with a wire brush and threw the full tube on.

Highly recommend the harbor freight heat gun I got for like $20. Real avid gun vise is neat but not absolutely necessary for this. Microfiber cloth was enough to avoid burning my hands during barrel removal.

Is it possible to cowitness a rifle sized optic like an exps2/3 or a holosun 510c? Currently I’m using a utg riser I took off a rifle build and it’s positioned just high enough that I can run the irons while the 510 sits on top.

Also if anyone’s wondering this is basically a stock 11701 with the Midwest industries mlok rail with a stream light rail mount 1. No other mods so far but I might spruce up the loading port and feed ramp in the future

Dropped the thordsen gen 3 in favor of a vism fin grip with a thumb ledge and a fixed b5 sopmod enhanced stock. Not that I hated the thordsen, it fulfilled its purpose. The only thing I’d change now for the build is swapping the streamlight to a surefire scout m640 and probably a bfg padded sling. What’re you fellas rocking in commieland?

Installation on staccato XL. So from what I can gather these safeties aren’t supposed to be drop in, and require some measure of filing/fitting. Had needle files ready to go and everything. Watched tutorials installation guides and during a first drop in to see what didnt fit I noticed the left side safety didn’t seem to have any clearance issues against the sear, so I did a function test and put them together and it seems completely fine? I called atlas to double check and the dude said it’s completely weird, as usually it could take 1 stroke from a file or a good chunk, but none at all seems completely crazy. Thing’s working.

Update on the prior video I posted on grip asking for criticism. I am once again asking to see if there was any improvement since the last instance, and this time I ditched the gloves and tried to follow the advice of some of the comments from the post. This time it’s a different angle, showing the support hand clamping the shooting hand, not sure if y’all prefer this angle or not, next video I’ll probably invest in meta glasses or something for a pov style video if that helps. Anyways, judge away. These are 10 round reloads of me picking up and swapping between the staccato xl and staccato xc. I can’t draw from the holster and shoot with a shot timer at this range, so this is the closest thing to a grip reset I could think of. Please let me know if the other angle with thumbs forward is preferred, I recorded this on my phone via front facing camera to ensure the gun would be in the shot.

Please give any criticism and don’t hold back. Grip used to be way way worse and I think I’m in a spot where I like the way the guns sit in my hands. Taken a few videos over the last few months with a variety of weird techniques until I settled on a proper and established grip style from watching a bunch of well regarded YouTube videos.

Wearing gloves since I’ve really torn up the skin around the right thumb knuckle and it’s finally starting to heal from the sharp edge of the beaver tail, I don’t wanna sand the edge down and fuck up the coating.

Trying to shoot the gun aggressively and erratically to try to reveal any deviation of muzzle rise and gaps in my grip, I think it’s pretty alright as the guns remained relatively flat. Towards the end I loosened the gun too much out of my dominant shooting hand, and reoriented my grip, elbow’s a bit fried (probably tendinitis) from either shooting every day last week, my current gym routine, or a combo of both.

I’m using a staccato xc with a 507 comp and that new harbor freight light you guys were raving about and a staccato xl with an x300, blacksteel usa gas pedal/extended slide release and no optic as I’m waiting for the release of the 507 pro max.

Please don’t hold back and let me know if any changes are needed, I’d like to finalize any tweaks before I really let this grip into my muscle memory. Next I plan to train occluded when the pro max is installed eventually.

Context

Had a non optic ready staccato xl that I sent to Vulcan machine werx to get milled for an optic, along with some other stuff I listed in a prior post. Vulcan I believe by default installed a blacked out the front sight when they smack out the old fiber optic sight to adjust the new one for the now lower optic footprint that they direct milled onto the slide. Although they did a good job, I kinda missed the old fiber optic one, so I started DIYing it. Called Vulcan, they gave me the size they used which was .250 tall and .115 wide, didn’t see that option on dawson’s site, ordered the next closest thing which was .250 tall and .110 wide.

The first attempt:

Definitely did not follow any instructions and beat the ever living hell out of it to smithereens, and it still didn’t go all the at through, and I fucked up 2 aluminum punches in the process. Swapped to a carbon steel punch thinking like a caveman, figuring i could just hit harder and force it the last bit it needed to go. Pretty much created a new smushed anger on the side and decided I needed to start over.

2nd attempt

Called Dawson, asked for advice to see where I was going wrong. Of course I didn’t expect them to replace what I fucked up, and I hung my head in shame and ordered a replacement, this time at .250 tall and .090 wide. Double checked with them to see if that was fine, they said it definitely was, and basically would make very little difference. Turns out it was no better than the first, but this time around I was prepared. I used a file and shaved off some side material, following how Vulcan shaved the original blacked out sight they sent. I used a fat triangular file, don’t recommend that btw, use a flat one, probably way easier and that’s what dawsons video demonstrates. Kept shaving until it started going in a bit. It’s smoothly, until it went in almost as smooth as the Vulcan one. Hammered it the rest of the way in, albeit I could definitely have shaved it a bit more but figured this was right enough to not need loctite. Oiled it up to prevent rust, brushed it with nylon, some of the blueing is gone but fuck it, made the thing line up as good as I could get it.
