Back pain but nothing else?

I can’t tell if I’m having kidney pain or back pain. I’m feeling it just to the right of my spine, kind of mid back. Maybe 6 inches from my tailbone? It gets worse after I run and if I push along the muscle that runs vertical next to my spine, I feel it more. But almost just feels like I’ve been overextending my back? No fever or chills, no blood in my urine, or burning when I pee. Dropped off a urine sample today to see if the antibiotics cleared my UTI and I have a video visit with my PCP Wednesday morning. Just wondering if I need to head to urgent care at all tomorrow or if I should wait until I get the urine sample results.

Antibiotics- specifically Cipro. Are there any other options??

I’ve unfortunately been plagued by yet another antibiotic caused by p. mirabalis resulting in a complicated UTI. Resistant to nitrofuratonin. I can’t take any sulfa meds due to an allergy. I told the doctor I do not want to be put on Cipro as I’m currently halfway through my training for a marathon and I run 25-30 miles/week. I’m terrified of the possible side effects. The doctor prescribed me amoxicillin, but I don’t think it’s working as I’m halfway through and I don’t feel my symptoms improving. I have to get another urine culture at the end of this round of antibiotics and I don’t have high hopes. Am I doomed and I will just need to take Cipro? I’d rather suffer through the full body rash I get with Bactrim than take it and risk my marathon.

P. Mirabilis UTI

Of course I get the culture results back on a Saturday and my UTI is P. Mirabilis and my doctor prescribed me nitrofurantonin. Anyways, 5/6 of my UTI’s the past 14 months have been caused by P. Mirabilis. From what I’m reading online, these utis are most commonly caused by catheter use, which has not been my case. Curious if anyone else has had cuti’s caused by this bacteria and did you find common culprit/trigger? Could it be my boyfriend? I didn’t start getting them until we started dating and being sexually active. If it is him, is there anything he can do beyond the basics of cleaning before sex? I have an appointment with a urologist in September but trying to play detective now. I’m also allergic to sulfa and always get so nervous I’ll be prescribed cipro for my uti’s.

Thoughts on what is causing chronic UTIs?

Currently dealing with my third UTI this year (one in March and another in May). Last year in 2025, I (31F) also had another 3 UTIs. I had only had one UTI up until 2025 when I met my current boyfriend and after the first time we had sex was when I got one. I figured it was just a side effect of introducing some new microbiomes and what not. Anyways, I can’t quite seem to find a trigger. The only ones I can come up with are the following:

-traveling (I’ve gotten one 3x now after traveling- wondering if flying and not being able to pee all the time is part of it in addition to not drinking enough water and often being constipated on vacation)

-certain sex positions (however this one is not constant bc sometimes we can do the triggering positions and I’m okay)

-my boyfriend in general??? Is there something on/in his fingers/penis/etc that’s causing these? He does finish inside of me everytime but I had a previous partner do that and it never caused any issues.

I have an appointment with a urologist in about a month but currently dealing with this UTI has got me thinking.

Can you get rid of an UTI at home with no antibiotics?

I woke up this morning with my classic UTI symptoms after traveling this past weekend. This will be my 3rd (I think) one this year and I’m so sick of having to find time to go to urgent care and get a test and meds. If I catch it early, do you think I can get it to go away at home with lots of d-mannose and cranberry juice and water? I’ll go to urgent care if I have to, but would rather avoid it if I can.

Vein ablations- yes or no?

I’m looking to go back to a vein specialist as I went last year and the NP told me I probably have CVI and will need my veins treated in the future. If I don’t wear compression and I sit for too long my calves get swollen and so hard. I also have terrible spider veins on my one thigh. I keep seeing mixed reviews of vein treatment and I’m terrified it will make my legs worse. But I’m 31 and thinking about having a kid in the next few years and I heard to get your veins treated before pregnancy.

I’m currently training for a marathon in October so I won’t get them done for a few months since I’ve heard recovery can be tough which rules out running for me.

Please give me all the good, the bad, and the ugly on your vein treatments.

Increasing from 150 to 300

I’ve seen mixed reviews about increasing from 150mg to 300mg. I’m about 4.5 weeks in on taking a 150mg XL dose. I felt the effects the first week, especially the first few days, but now everything feels back to normal and I don’t really feel like the 150 is doing the job. Should I stick it out until I at least get to 6 weeks and reevaluate then? Any positive or negative stories about increasing dosages?

Tracking basal body temp with IUD

Has anyone had success with tracking their basal body temp while having an IUD and not bleeding? I’ve (31F) have been on hormonal birth control for about 14ish years now, the last 9 have been on IUDs (Skyla and now I’m on my second Kyleena). I’ve had my current IUD for about a year and a half now and don’t get a period. I may spot every 6 months or so but it’s usually brown and hardly enough to even put a tampon in. I got a fitness ring in hopes I can try and track my “cycle” and figure out my menstrual phases to try and pair with this intense mood shift I get each month (inconsistent timing). The ring can’t seem to pick up a trend and I’m wondering if I should try and track it myself with a basal thermometer. Do I even experience a luteal phase, follicular phase, etc with the Kyleena IUD? Not trying to get pregnant for a few more years, so I’m not interested in stopping BC.

When do all the side effects typically start?

I’m on day 5 of taking 150mg Wellbutrin XL and I’ve had some slight side effects, but nothing like I’ve seen some other people mention. I experienced the jittery feeling the first 2 days, but that has subsided. I’ve noticed I’m less hungry than normal and I have had some insomnia. I haven’t experienced any rage, heat sensitivity/increased sweating, etc.

If you experienced those more “annoying” side effects such as rage, sweating, hair loss, etc., when did they start? The hair loss is a big anxiety for me, but I also take spironolactone which is supposed to help with hair loss.

Looking for gift ideas to celebrate a big work event for boyfriend

I’m looking for a celebratory gift for my boyfriend (31M) to celebrate a big work-related event he has basically been working towards the last 2-3 years. It’s not a promotion, but he works for a non-profit and they’re finally opening next week. I’m hoping to get something personalized maybe to the year or date of the opening. I’m also thinking of getting him a massage somewhere because he’s been wanting one for a while. I was hoping to put a little basket together with the gift certificate, a special bottle of wine, his favorite snacks, and something else that’s more personal but I’m blanking on options.

Sleep accuracy and data seems really off?

I’m about ready to stop using this ring. I really cannot believe that I’m “awake” for this much during the night. My ring said I had a 25-minute awake period between 3-4am and I’m not sure how accurate that is. I’m also so frustrated that there’s no option for us to attribute our poor sleep to. I wish they gave options as to why we maybe got less sleep. I know fitness rings aren’t all that accurate when it comes to sleep, but am I really awake for over an hour of my sleep? I doubt it.

Is this MCAS? MCAS flare?

Hi all!

I’ve (31F) had a hunch for a while that I have MCAS, but it never really impacted my daily life besides getting a red splotchy rash after being in heat or a hot shower…until now. A few weeks ago I started experiencing some itching on my neck, ear lobes, and jawline and recently the itch has made its way down my chest, torso, and back. Some days are worse than others, I really can’t pinpoint what caused a possible flare and I’m going crazy with the itching. Some moments it’s fine, and other times the itch is back. I sometimes have a rash, but other than that it’s just a slight red and you see my itch marks. I’ve started taking Zyrtec daily and I’m not sure if it’s helping or not. I literally ran a half marathon in the Chicago heat this past weekend and had no itching.

Anything else I can do in the moment? I have a doctor’s appointment at the end of the month and I’m tracking my symptoms. I don’t really have any other symptoms except maybe some brain fog. I’ve never had any negative reactions to food, I eat mostly anti-inflammatory already but do include some high histamine foods (dairy, tomatoes, avocados, strawberries, etc). Should I cut those high histamine foods out or keep them in and see how I react with the itching after eating them? The itch is driving me crazy!

Options for paying down CC debt

First off, I’d like to say I know I’m in a tough position and believe me I feel shame about it everyday so I don’t need any shaming responses. I’m a 31F with about $18k worth of credit card debt. I make about $5k/month and thankfully don’t have any student loans and I don’t have a monthly rent or car payment. I know I need to stop using my credit cards, believe me they’re getting cut up. I’m trying to throw whatever money I can towards my debt, starting with my high interest card first. I would rather not take out a personal loan. I do have some savings bonds I can cash in on, but I did that this year with some and the taxes were brutal. Is it worth just cashing them in (would give me at least $10k) and then saving extra money each month for the taxes?

Inca Trail hike in November or March or wait until June?

Looking to do an Inca Trail 4D/3N hike with Alpaca Expeditions. I work at a school so I get a week off at the end of November and I also have 9 days off at the end of March/beginning of April. Is it worth trying to go during one of these times during the rainy season or should we wait and just go during the summer in either June/July/August when it’s less rainy but more crowded?

I need parking help! I recently moved in with my boyfriend and his unit has a parking spot in the garage. The parking garage from hell I might add. It’s extremely tight and I swear he has one of the worst spots. I drive a 2021 Mazda cx 5 and only have rear park assist. The probably is the spot is against a wall with a car to the other side and maybe only a car’s length distance in the aisle between the other cars.

How would you suggest parking here? I was able to do so this weekend by pulling in with his assistance and lots of back and forth and close encounters. Backing out was a nightmare as well and it’s a lot of close back and forth. I’m either worried about hitting the car next to me or scraping my passenger side against the wall.

I know backing in could possibly be easier but like I said it’s extremely tight and then I wouldn’t be able to exit my car either. SOS!!!

I’ve attached a diagram that hopefully makes sense! The orange lines represent pillars. We’ve asked the car next to us to move back slightly closer to the wall in hopes that will help, especially since they have a Prius.
