The Decisive Moment - Original Editions
Hi! Dunno if there are many really deep-pocketed collectors here. But a couple weeks ago, I was in Black Dog Books in Zionsville, Indiana. They always have a decent selection of photobooks. I bought a copy of a Clarence John Laughlin book I'd been looking for, and got to chatting to the proprietor about photobooks.
Lo and behold, she pointed behind the counter to where she had *two* of these. Those are not the Steidl reprints, folks. Those are original, early 1950s, first American edition copies. They're in superb condition (just a bit of toning to the dust jacket, as you can see) encased in mylar covers. I was pretty gobsmacked to be able to handle one.
She said she's asking $7,500 for each. Based on what I can see online, that's probably waaaaaay out of line, certainly. But she seemed to understand that she really didn't know what they are worth, and was willing to talk about the price. So if you've got great negotiating skill and have been desperately looking for one of these, you might get in touch. They are just sitting there.
