Season 2 (spoiler for 1, 2 and 3) and rant

I feel like the producers of the show are the worst, honestly.

In season one, there was the sleeping bag theft, not to mention the worst 2 women I've ever seen on a reality show.

The producers allowed for theft of life saving gear.

In season 2, they gave them no sleeping bags.

To spend over a month in Alaska.

They only gave them 2 blankets per team, to share.

The contestants had no idea how to build a shelter that would compensate for the lack of sleeping bags, which clearly didn't help their situation.

I feel like most of the contestants were chosen for their ignorance of survival in those conditions and their toxicity in social settings.

Eventually after a bunch of people flared out, they dropped off 2 sleeping bags per remaining team, the thin, rectangular ones with no hood that are used in summer car camping, are they insane?

The woman contestant towards the end who flared out because she was sick wound up diagnosed with Trench Foot which tells me she never took her boots off even to sleep because she must have been so cold, Trench Foot is something that happened over a hundred years ago in Europe during WW1 to the soldiers in the trenches.

And I really feel like the producers of the show go hardcore into putting the worst people they can find on the show, except for a couple of good people, put them in impossible and potentially dangerous situations and then watch them tear each other apart for fun.

That's not a survival show, it's putting buckets of chum in shark habitats and dropping in people who can't swim, for sport.

I bet you anything the producers are into dog fighting.

Seriously it's disturbing.

I watched Alone, and that's really about survival.

Haven't seen Naked and Afraid because I don't use Amazon or anything connected to Bezos so I'll have to wait until it gets to Netflix, but holy hell, Outlast is one disturbing show that I won't be watching again.

I watched season 3 in the jungle and that cemented my decision.

Season 3 was so fake and edited it was a soap opera with scantily clad people in need for therapy.

The theft of shoes in an environment where the ground is covered with things that can cause foot injuries was also disturbing.

I watched all 3 because I kept hoping it would get better, lol.

I'm not into blood sports.

I do recommend Alone, though, that's a great show and I found it educational.

Well I did it

I got an Instinct 3 solar today. Now I just have to sell the red headed step child (the FR970, lol)

I found the set up much easier. I went for a short walk (I'd have gone for a longer one but it's in the 90s and smoky here) and WOW the clarity of the MIP display is unmatched. It's also very easy to see indoors.

I'm loving the non touchscreen: my dog is constantly chewing on my wrist and it messes up touchscreen settings so this is really neat.

It'll take a little while to get used to button navigation but I'm already getting the hang of it.

And omg it's LIGHT! I barely feel it on.

So far I'm very happy with it 👍🏻😁

Upgrading my tab

I currently have a Galaxy tab S8+ cellular. It's really banged up, slowing down and losing battery life at increasing speed, I want to upgrade.

I was thinking of getting an S10 plus cellular but everywhere I look, I only see S10 plus wifi.

Does the S10 exist with cellular?

How about the S11 plus, does it have cellular and is it a lot more expensive?

It's getting challenging

So. Little One had a very successful TPLO surgery. This pic was taken the day after he got home, stoned off his furry butt.

We had some issues with post op meds, it took a couple of weeks to get adjusted, then everything got a little "easier."

The crate behind him? Silly us: apparently he grew since last year (he's 5 years old so we didn't expect that) and he can no longer turn around in it so this time he never used it, we donated it to a local shelter.

I've been giving him massages and doing passive range of motion exercises, we're starting to increase the length of his outings by 5 minutes each week. (In 2 days it will have been a month since surgery)

The vet was really stoked at his 2 week post op appointment. We have another appointment on the 31st for full x-rays to gauge the bone healing. (TPLO for large dogs is a very different procedure from TPLO for small or medium dogs, my boy is bionic now: he has steel plates and multiple screws in both knees)

However:

Now that he's starting to feel better, he wants to resume playing, rough housing and jumping everywhere and he won't be allowed that for several more months.

Not allowed to climb on or off the bed and couch either, we still sleep on the floor with him so he won't be tempted (we live in an RV BTW, lol)

Still needs his special post op harness so we can lift his rear end to go down and up the RV steps.

So he's getting frustrated, whines everytime he sees dogs playing outside, the poor baby.

I'm on cuddle detail 24/7, of course.

After his first TPLO last year I noticed that certain types of music relax him, he loves new age yoga chants (especially when his pills kick in) and guitar blues, he's a great fan of BB King.

He also likes Santana but that makes him want to trot and skip everywhere so maybe in a few weeks.

He's a living barometer, like me following my bilateral total knee replacement, and he absolutely hates weather changes, those make him very sore, like me.

Another 3 months before things can start feeling noticeably easier. I expect he'll have a good winter, he'll be allowed to walk more. (Keep in mind this is a working dog who's used to hike all sorts of terrain for several miles everyday, he helps move downed trees across trails etc)

Ahh. It's been a tough month, it'll be super challenging for another 3 months, then things will improve.

Thanks for reading 😊

Anyone else misses Blackberry?

Yes, I'm old 😂 but omg how i miss my Blackberry. The keyboard. Blackberry messenger. The track ball and later the track pad.

The battery life.

I didn't mind the smaller display.

By now the camera would be updated.

But oh, my Blackberry Bold, how i miss you.

I've done Apple. Meh.

Now I'm on Android, (Samsung) it's okay.

Nothing beats my old Blackberry.

Sigh.

Am I alone in feeling this way or are there fellow Blackberry fans out there?

Locked out of Connect IQ???

So i wanted to look for an app, I opened Connect IQ.

Got a screen that wanted me to agree to new terms of privacy, I tapped the "read and agreed" button.

Now I'm getting the eternal wheel of hell, i have full LTE and Wi-Fi connection for my phone, Bluetoothis on etc.

Sigh.

Why Garmin has to make every little thing a major headache, I'll never know. It just reinforces my decision to never buy another Garmin device again.

I'm curious though: is anyone experiencing anything similar?

Help, please

I have a FR970.

I usually prefer stock faces to avoid lagging and possibly save on battery life.

But here's the rub:

Everytime i try to edit the complications on a stock face on my FR970, I can only do it from the watch, which us ok except that after setting up the data as I want it, and I'm supposed to press the upper right button to apply, it doesn't work:

All it does is highlight the complications I've just changed but there's no apply option.

Yet I can do it with no problem on my Venu 3.

What am I not understanding?

Little One is having TPLO surgery today.

He busted both knees while playing last year, he had the right knee done in August because it was the worst, then it typically takes about 9 months or so to fully heal, (at least in a dog this size) now he's getting the left knee done.

The first 4 months are the worst, he's not allowed to put weight on it, he has to take tons of pills for pain and anxiety because he's not allowed to walk around except for short potty breaks, so he has to be crated pretty much 24/7.

However it's well worth it because he's only 5 and in perfect health otherwise, but he's a big boy (160 lbs) so i want to make sure he gets his quality of life.

He's staying at the vet overnight for monitoring and I'll pick him up tomorrow.

Anyone else stuck in their training status?

I get my heart rate up, every workout, be it hiking, weight training, cardio or Pilates.

I'm usually in my threshold zone or higher, always for an hour or more.

And my FR 970 tells me I'm in recovery status 🤷🏻‍♀️

There have been snafus lately with this watch, last week all my hiking metrics got messed up, switching to multi workout unprompted in the middle of a hike, then recording only 500 meters in.

I did a full reset, it seemed to help but I've been stuck in recovery status ever since.

To the very least I should be maintaining.

This makes no sense.

Anyone else experiencing snafus with the 970?

I don't get it

My 3 watches (Fenix 7S Pro SS, Venu 3 and Forerunner 970) are all set on the metrics system, both on the devices and in in Garmin Connect.

Out of the blue all 3 watches give me distances in miles.

I go into settings on all 3 watches and Garmin Connect for each watch, it's set up for metric.

Anyone experiencing this? Is there some troubleshooting I'm missing out on?

I slept just 3 hours because he snored all night long

Of course now he's sleeping quietly and I'm guzzling coffee strong enough to dissolve the spoon just to face the day. 😩😵😵‍💫

Help in reconnecting, please

In 2022 I had a Polar Grit X Pro.

But in 2023 I switched to Garmin which at the time was quite nice.

Except that now their software is so mangled, I have decided to switch back to Polar.

But it's impossible to reconnect my Grit X Pro anymore: I have a new phone, I still have the original email account, but everytime I try, I follow all the directions and it won't pair?

Is it because the Grit X Pro is too old? Or is there something I'm not doing?

Last update a dud?

So I've been swimming in an outdoor pool for several weeks. I use my Fenix 7S Pro SS.

I do a regular swim, stop and save, then I do another using the drill log for sprint drills and kickboard.

Because I'm recovering from an ear infection and my flip turns are a mess (ever tried to do a proper flip turn with fluid in your inner ear? You'll lose your axis it's really weird) I only did an easy 1000 meters in freestyle and stopped, then kept my head out of the water for kickboard.

So freestyle activity : 1000 meters fairly slowly in 20 minutes, 202 calories.

But kickboard practice using the drill log: 75 minutes 418 calories.

Yet, my calories burned metrics only registered the freestyle activity calorie burn. Why is that?

I normally prefer using my Fenix for swimming, especially outdoors, but I'm going to try using my Forerunner 970 tomorrow and see what happens. I hope it's just an update glitch that can be fixed later.

Anyone else experiencing something similar with calories metrics?

Well there are witnesses...

... To this boy barreling through the campsite and completely destroying his dad's weather station.

I say the weather station was set up in the wrong spot.

His dad disagrees.

But Little One seems to agree with me 😂
