Tom and Jerry - The 1960s Anthology and Beyond (A Potential Blu-Ray Set)

After the Golden Era Anthology covering the 1940s and 1950s, a new set should cover everything from the 1960s up until today.

This should include upgrading all of the Gene Deitch and Chuck Jones produced shorts released on DVD to Blu-Ray.

In addition, this should include every modern short ever produced including "The Mansion Cat" and "The Karate Guard", the two Tom and Jerry Special Shorts ("On a Roll" and "The House That Cat Built"), Tom and Jerry Singapore and Tom and Jerry Gokko.

Would you like to see a set like this?

I Need to Be A Better Fan

The past few years of being a Looney Tunes fan were really all mixed. I loved The Day the Earth Blew Up, the classic shorts getting upgraded on Blu-Ray and I am happy for Coyote vs. ACME finally getting released. I'm just not happy with how WB handled the brand. I already talked about Space Jam: A New Legacy, LTC and Pepé too much to the point where I really lost sight in what really matters as a fan and to be a fan as a whole.

I got too scared of the Zaslav tax write offs and now of a possible takeover to the point where anything valuable can get deleted and erased forever. I didn't like the brand going in a more preschool friendly direction and I hated the impression where they act like family or too friendly. I regret fearing so much about Pepé Le Pew being and erased to the point where he stopped existing. I was so dumb about that.

Really, I need to be a better fan and start enjoying what we have now and what has been available all this time. I don't want to lose hope at any new project or any new release. I just need to think WB needs to fully commit to handling these characters better more and more beyond kids and current Gen Alpha trends.

I Accepted That the Shelved Looney Tunes Cartoons Shorts Will Never Get Released - Last LTC Post

I’m done talking about this. The DVD and Blu-Ray is out and I’m now content with the reality that Looney Tunes Cartoons shorts like “Sick as a Hare” have been officially vaulted and Warner Bros. will never release them in the future. I’m pretty much the only guy pointing this out, in addition to probably one other friend I know. Disappointing but unfortunately that is all WB can do when getting the show on physical.

Just be glad that the show itself is on physical so people don’t have to complain when HBO Max eventually purges this from streaming.

Not banned or erased for tax write offs. Just shelved forever never to be released any time soon.

I already talked about this at length. I’m moving on to Coyote vs. ACME and other projects in need of great support. I rather stay happy about other things rather than fixate on this topic I have no control over.

The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie - Potential Boutique Release Ideas

The Day the Earth Blew Up is one of my all time favorite animated movies as of recently. Years from now, it might be a cult favorite for animation and Looney Tunes fans alike. What kind of bonus features do you like to see and what boutique label should license it?

- Director approved 4K master in Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos.

(Ketchup should try to get a 35mm Dolby SR release print put together for repertory / roadshow screenings. Looney Tunes on film is always a treat.)

- Audio commentaries with Pete Browngardt, Alex Kirwan, Eric Bauza and Candi Milo
- Isolated musical score (with optional PDF link of full score provided in insert)
- English 5.1, English 2.0, Spanish, French, German, Italian and more…
- Play movie with Animatic and Pencil Test Side by Side
- Still galleries of production art
- Deleted scenes
- Trailers
- Featurettes with cast, crew and fans.
- Introduction from Pete Browngardt

I don't see Criterion, Arrow or Vinegar Syndrome releasing it. Maybe Shout Factory through Shout Select. What kind of boutique release do you see for this 2024 movie years from now?

The Day the Earth Blew Up - Looney Tunes on Criterion?

This is by far one of my favorite Looney Tunes productions released recently. While Warner Archive is releasing more of their classic library in HD, I think WB And Ketchup Entertainment licensing this movie to Criterion has tons of potential. It’s a love letter to classic sci-fi movies and creature features of the 1950s, 60s and 80s and this is entirely creative driven from director Pete Browngardt and the team behind the new Looney Tunes Cartoons on HBO Max.

If this gets a release, these types of bonus features should be included.

- Director approved 4K master in Dolby Vision with new Dolby Atmos mix. (I would even be joyful to get the movie reissued with special fan screenings on 35mm film and use the camera negative made from the digital source for a new transfer that feels like vintage Looney Tunes.)

- Audio commentaries with Pete Browngardt, Alex Kirwan, Eric Bauza and Candi Milo
- Isolated musical score (with optional PDF link of full score provided in insert booklet)
- English Atmos, English 5.1, English 2.0, Spanish, French, German, Italian and more…
- Play movie with Animatic and Pencil Test Side by Side (seeing the movie with storyboards and pencil test to compare and contrast)
- Still galleries of production art
- Deleted scenes
- Trailers
- Featurettes with cast, crew and fans.
- Introduction from Pete Browngardt

The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie - Criterion / Vinegar Syndrome Wishlist

Ketchup Entertainment could do the coolest thing and license The Day the Earth Blew Up to Criterion and Vinegar Syndrome for a collector’s set. Along with proper clearance from Warner Bros., either of the two boutique labels can produce a set that is filled with everything animation fans.

- Director approved 4K master.

If you asked Criterion and Vinegar Syndrome for a set like this, what bonus features do you like to see?

Looney Tunes Cartoons: The Lost Cartoons [Fan Concept]

This is a concept if WB allowed the unreleased and unpackaged Looney Tunes shorts to ever get a release. 27 of the 209 produced not on HBO Max can be on there. Bonus features can include title cards for the Holiday themed shorts like “Elf Help”, “Snow Laughing Matter” and others that have been cut from the final version. “Yuletide Taz” even has a deleted gag.

I honestly didn’t like how HBO Max handled the Looney Tunes Cartoons shorts. “Dynamite Dance” is not even in the complete series as it is on YouTube only. Imagine if you one of the crew members only to find out your short will never get released.

I still like to see shorts like “Sick as a Hare” and more that got shown at the Animation Is Film Festival back in 2023. There were even new interstitials where Elmer Fudd gets plastic surgery on his calves and pecs with humorous results.

As much as the DVD is more of a barebones copy of the digital version and the Blu-Ray being last minute, I hope the release will allow these lost shorts to finally be seen. They are just still sitting in the vault and people will love more bonus Looney Tunes content never before seen.

I seem to notice that WB really couldn’t get away with the whole running gag of Daffy being jealous of Bugs and him being greedy. Along with the Rabbit Season sign gag, I feel like they stuck him with the Chuck Jones portrayal too much in marketing when in recent projects, it is so refreshing to see Daffy act like a screwball again. Bob Clampett’s portrayal is my definitive version of the duck.

New Looney Tunes, Looney Tunes Cartoons, The Day the Earth Blew Up and Bugs Bunny Builders all handle Daffy in their own ways but he’s still just as Daffy as you can expect.

Duck Dodgers, Looney Tunes Back in Action, The Looney Tunes Show also gave Daffy some fun new characterizations where he is selfish and acts on instinct but he is still just as screwy as his name.

Looney Tunes Gokko and even the ACME Fools shorts from 2023 just made him one note. Reminded me too much of the 1960s shorts with Speedy where he is just a bland villain that is just really jealous and cranky.

Now with Daffy’s 90th birthday next year, I just hope WB notices Daffy’s versatility and stops running into the tired tropes. I couldn’t bear him in Space Jam: A New Legacy where he is just bossy and greedy. Him trying to be Superman but gets upstaged by Bugs and LeBron. Daffy being reduced to weak quips and ended up being the coach rather than playing.

“Daffy Season” is now the next upcoming short and I do hope they balance his traits while still emphasizing he is a screwball. Loved him a lot in The Day the Earth Blew Up as they never made him greedy or angry nearly for much of the movie. How do you feel about all this?

WB on the Consumer Products and marketing level can’t rely on greedy Daffy forever because the schtick got old for me as I’m more used to seeing a balanced Daffy as his screwball wall bouncing antics is nice to see again.

I have been hearing that Pepé Le Pew is going to have a cameo appearance in Coyote vs. ACME marking the first time he has been in any major Looney Tunes project since New Looney Tunes where he is a James Bond spoof, or his cameo in a Looney Tunes Cartoons short only available on YouTube.

The last time he appeared was in the Animaniacs reboot episode "Yakko Amakko".

https://www.polygon.com/voice-actor-eric-bauza-says-coyote-vs-acme-is-equal-parts-courtroom-drama-and-buddy-comedy/

And the fact that Polygon mentioned it, and Dave Green hinted that a lot of Looney Tunes characters will appear ("Tons and tons of characters. Both in significant supporting roles, and in bit cameos. Name a character, and they're likely in the movie."), I can happily share that after being cut from Space Jam: A New Legacy and execs not allowing him in Bugs Bunny Builders and Tiny Toons Looniversity, August 28th 2026 will mark the official day Pepé Le Pew comes out of retirement even for a few seconds on screen.

Now it will be up to Bill Damaschke and Sam Register to see where he can fit in today's times. We could see him in the ensemble in the upcoming "Daffy Season" short.
