Finally, the wait is over, I set up Linux for personal use

It feels like a dream come true. I bought a laptop three days ago, and it's my first Linux setup.

I am gonna explore Linux now.

Any suggestions for me? I am a developer, so I have built and deployed software on Linux (Basic Ubuntu) before, but it's my first time using Linux for personal use and doing UI customization.

I want to buy refurbished laptop

Hi Guys, I am in Bhubaneswar, and I want to buy a refurbished laptop.

I talked to a person from my contacts, and he said I can get an i5 10th gen, 8GB RAM, 256 SSD, 14-inch display, DOS (No OS; I will not use Windows), and a 3-month warranty for 22K.

But the thing I want is a 15.6-inch laptop. He said it's not available right now; I will try to arrange it, so how much of a price difference can there be?

I will mainly use it for Coding, Movies, YouTube, and some other things.

Has anyone previously bought a refurbished laptop? What was your issue, and does anyone know a good provider in Bhubaneswar?

Privacy Was My Priority, but I Still Ended Up on PhonePe

I used Google Pay for almost two years. Then I started de-Googling my phone. Over time, I replaced almost every Google app with open-source alternatives. The only thing left was UPI, because there isn't a reliable open-source UPI app yet.

I spent a lot of time researching and reading Reddit discussions about which UPI app would be the best. Eventually, I switched to BHIM UPI since it's the government-backed app.

At first, it worked really well, and I even recommended it to others. But later, it started causing problems during my development work. It began flagging almost every second app on my phone: my clipboard manager, developer tools, apps with accessibility permissions, USB debugging, and more.

I tried everything I could think of:

  • Toggling Developer Options from Quick Settings.
  • Using apps that bypass accessibility permission detection.
  • Disabling features one by one.

Nothing worked.

In the end, I switched to PhonePe. I know it isn't the most privacy-friendly choice, and much of the company is owned by foreign investors, but I didn't have many options left.

For me, privacy has always been more important than cashback offers. That's why:

  • I left Google Pay because it's a Google product.
  • I didn't choose Paytm because of privacy concerns and past data leak reports (even though some of those reports turned out to be inaccurate).
  • I tried BHIM and genuinely liked it, but its security checks became too restrictive for my use case.
  • Most other UPI apps seem more focused on cashback and promotions than privacy.

I used BHIM for about a month and honestly thought it was the best option until it started blocking things I actually needed, including my own apps during development.

Has anyone else faced similar issues with BHIM? If you've found a privacy-friendly UPI app that works well for developers, especially an Indian app, I'd love to hear your recommendations.

I want soul browser for windows.

Hi, my main browser is Brave. Apart from that, I use Soul Browser, and I love its feature to download any video from any site, including streaming videos. If someone doesn't know about Soul Browser, when you play a video, it shows its own controls and download options. I'd like a similar browser for Windows, please.

Am I dreaming, guys??

Hi guys, Yesterday, I reached the station, and the train came 15 minutes before it was scheduled and departed 5 minutes before time. I was shocked. When I woke up in the morning, I saw this and got another shock. I thought I was dreaming.

Edit - I saw the train depart at the arrival time slowly. If loco pilots can't do that, then they break the law. I am just sharing my experience. I will keep it on my list of "Something you experienced but nobody believes you."
