Questions for LEOs

Im a police only dispatcher (only on radio for 6 months before that i was 911 calltake only) and I noticed one of our community outreach officers body cams is on and looked up his address and hes at his house. He cleared his last call at 1945 and its now 0030 here, he could be sleeping I have no idea. Its not really my place to make the call so I kinda nudged our admin dispatcher like “hey wanna be nice and give this guy a call?” And she said “why would i wanna be nice?” 🥴 I know theres a good amount of first responders in this sub so just curious would you want a courtesy call even if it potentially woke you up at 1 am?

Update: been an hour. Still hasnt moved on the map and based on where its showing it may even be in his car so im just gonna leave it alone. Hope he didnt bitch about work stuff in the vicinity of it lol

Mouse clicking

My supervisor plays solitaire every night, all night. She clicks the mouse every single second for 8 hours straight. It was only mildly annoying at first but after sitting across from her for 3 days straight i literally feel like im going to explode. Im a 911 dispatcher so i cannot wear headphones because i have to monitor a radio channel

Whats up with all the upsetti spaghettis this week?

Our county has had like 10 attempted/successful suicidal subjects in the past 24 hours. I understand why it happens around certain times like holidays but its literally just a random Tuesday. Theres something in the air around here rn i guess

Desperately hope whatever my supervisor is doing that necessitates clicking the mouse every single second for the past 90 minutes is not an all night activity

Gotta love a silent overnight shift with the most annoying person imaginable

Standing/walking is the biggest stay awake hack

There are some nights that no amount of break naps, coffee, screen time, hobbies, or busy work will keep me awake at my desk job but pacing ALWAYS keeps me awake. Ive heard people say “standing just makes you more tired” and i cannot understand that

Im basically the worst person on earth for disliking a paper towel dispenser, apparently

Verbally assaulted and banned from the crappy design sub for posting about a mildy inconvenient paper towel dispenser. Gotta love Reddit!

u/samanthadill13 — 11 days ago

Just unsubbed from the crappy design subreddit because I was berated for posting about a slightly inconvenient paper towel dispenser

Sorry if not allowed. I posted a pic of a paper towel dispenser that cause the corners to rip off the paper towels a lot when used in the typical way and got called “lowest common denominator” “idiot” “special”. Got told “learning would improve your quality of life” “you have every right to continue being stupid” “there are resources for people who have trouble with things like this” etc. which is all well and good i know its the internet and all so thats to be expected. And there were people who either agreed or were able to disagree civily to be fair, credit where its due. But long story short the mods didnt remove any of those comments that were nothing but personal insults and slop, and after my post got 500 upvotes they removed it because they said the design wasnt crappy. Okay so since you agree with those people theyre allowed to just say all the nasty things they can think of over a paper towel dispenser and fuck everyone who actually agrees? I hate the internet.

Feels like that sub is just a place for people to all band together and call people idiots whether its for designing something poorly or for not liking a design they think is fine. Ive seen so many comments that are criticizing the op for not knowing how to use something in a way that circumvents the crappy design. Like someone posted ab their oven knobs being plastic and melting and multiple comments were like “did you try baking with the door shut” like my dudes, oven knobs should not be made of things that melt that easily thats literally crappy design.

Paronychia

My husband still bites his nails and he got an infection again recently. Just wanted to show you guys what can happen in case it helps some people stay clean. Hes one of those people that will peel off a strip of nail and pluck it out so if you do that beware. I had to take one of his insulin needles and i took the plunger out poked it in near the cuticle and it all just started gushing out (thats not necessarily a recommendation he just refuses to go to the ER and i have a limited medical background)

My moisturization method

I dip my fingers in this desert skincare jojoba balm (which is 50% jojoba oil) and then twist to make sure that it’s applied to the entire cuticle groove area. I also make sure to scratch it a bit so that it gets under the tip of my nail to moisturize the nail bed. Then I put on a pair of exam gloves and go to sleep. This has been helping with my overall cuticle health and smoothness (less dry bits of skin sticking up to make me want to pick at) and is has marginally increased my nail growth speed. I know this is not a new method by any means but I really like this product and just wanted to turn people onto it

4 year vs now

Was going through my camera roll and found this pic from 4 years ago when i bit a hole into my nail plate at the BACK by the cuticle. I always see people asking if their nail will ever be normal again and just want to say it only took probably 6 months for the nail to go basically back to normal and i included a pic of the same nail now (4 yrs on) and you can see theres no permanent damage/deformation. I was an extreme biter and used to peel strips of nail plate off all the way do to the cuticle and then pull those strips straight out of the nail matrix and it would bleed. If you think theres no hope for you youre wrong, you can do this. Happy Friday everyone stay strong 💪

Edit: i quit by learning how to do diy nail enhancements. Ive tried a number of things over the years but polygel and hard gel worked best for me

Diy hard gel

I started getting into DIY nail enhancements about two years ago to kick my biting habit and it has worked pretty well. I’ve tried press on, gel polish, gel X, and then polygel/dual forms and they all served their own little purpose along my learning journey. I just recently bought a proper e-file and gave hard gel a try and I have to say I am a big fan and don’t think I will be turning back. My cuticles are a little rough around the edges, but I’m still getting used to the eval and using the nippers, but l’ll get there. Just wanted show off my mediocrely executed french fade im pretty proud of it myself lol 💅 I started with the left hand and I think I was getting a little better by the time I got to the right hand at least more consistent

Lower parallels

I have relapsed once or twice but mostly ive been clean for 2 years. A couple months ago i learned about lower parallels and overfiling and now that theyre actually starting to grow in its sooo obvious what i was taking away before. Just wanted to post in here to the people wondering why their nails are flimsy, this could be your culprit. Basically do not file into your sidewalls down to the growth point but you can look up overfiling on google or YouTube for more info. Your sidewalls/lower parallels are very important for nail strength

https://www.reddit.com/r/bettafish/s/4UtSSVHQcu

Went to a local fish store and said we don’t know anything please give us everything we need to take care of a beta fish and they sent us home with a 2.5 gallon tank and some food. No nitrifying bacteria additive. No test strips. No dechlorinater. And a filter that flowed so fast it killed the first fish in 20 hours (maybe less idk i was at work). Went back for a second fish and came here for more help and ended up buying a 6 gallon tank and some live plants and other things. Bought test strips and seachem prime.

The second fishy started floating sideways on day two (pretty sure due to high ammonia in the original tank) so I put him in a little bowl with some treated water and gave him a mild Epsom salt bath, then put him in another bowl of clean water and just let him rest in his beta log in a shallow bowl. By next morning, he was swimming straight and the tank was ready to go (for fish in cycle) and he seems much happier now. Big thanks to the user who commented on my other post and helped me out.

Open to any other critiques on the new tank. I have a heater set to about 78 and the new filter is baffled with filter foam so the flow is very mild but I did order a new filter because I’m worried that the phone I stuffed in the top of the one that came with the tank is gonna come out and increase the flow while I’m gone for work or something. It was definitely a learning process and I wish I had researched before and not trusted the pet store to put me on the right track, but I think I’ve got the hang of it now. Husband is very attached to him (i didnt tell him the first one died) and hes named him Tatsugiri after the pokemon

That is all.

Jk but to those who say the bad tasting stuff doesnt work i implore you to try scented hand sanitizer. Alcohol tastes bad and the scented stuck tastes real bad. Worked instantly for me after a relapse. I like the spray bc i can spray it directly on my nail area and not dry out my entire hand

I’ve been on the job just over a year and for some reason today just hit me so hard. At our Center fire and police call centers are separated so if we get a fire/ambulance call we transfer it but we stay on the line in case police are needed as well. I had a call from a guy at a gas station who thought he was having a heart attack so I transferred it to fire, but was waiting on the line and he was coughing so bad that I almost put in a sick person call on our side because I thought he was gonna keel over it any second how bad the cough was and we always send police for cardiacs, but then a fire call taker said they would stay on the line so I disconnected to take more calls. A little while later fire called over and asked us to go out to the gas station so that we could run the tag and get the guy’s address for notification. I took that call too and for some reason it’s just really bothering me how I was one of the last two people that he ever spoke to. I always say I wanna know what happens with my callers but honestly, I think not knowing is better.

And then not two hours later, I took a call from the Wife of a man who texted her his suicide note and then shot himself in their house, and she found him and she was one of those callers that was just so hysterical (understandably) and I just could feel the pain and just desperation in her voice.

Ive taken similar calls but it just hit me differently today. First time ive genuinely felt like im taking work home with
