Curled Photographs

Curled Photographs

Hello. I have 5 early 20th century photographs had which have recently developed an intense curve. When I first purchased them they had a slight curve, but when I checked on them a few weeks ago the curve had grew.

I understand that flat photographs are best for storage and for scanning. I have tried, by many means, to get these photos flat. I have used a humidification chamber for upwards of 3 hours, and then pressed them under heavy weights for a week, yet their curve still grew back after seconds of not being under weights.

What can I do? At least, what can I do to stop this curl from increasing again?

Do not buy this book!

This book is all but worthless. Many troubleshooting steps in the back of the book point to chapter 7 for solutions. Not only is chapter 7 missing, but it is actually not even shown on the table of contents. It just jumps from chapter 6 to chapter 8.

There are various incorrect statements throughout and no diagrams or pics in the book either.

I should have known not to spend the $20 for it since most of what I need to know is in the service manual or found on YouTube.

Cursive Handwriting In The 80s

https://preview.redd.it/yx65q2xt1i8h1.png?width=1302&format=png&auto=webp&s=cdfeb12916cff2939a2df616d3d4c1a1697ff48b

I am mesmerised by the handwriting of this man in a letter I recently came into possession of. The 't's are so elegant (as is the whole script), yet it remains very readable.

Was this standard in the 80s? This was just a personal letter which was never really meant for loads of people to see. Nonetheless, I adore it - I hope you do too.

Which sample looks the best?

After about 6 months of practice, Cursive No. 2 was my everyday handwriting. Recently, I have developed this into Cursive No. 1, which in my opinion looks much better. Both are very difficult to write though.

Upright cursive is easier but I think it is occasionally illegible. You can see some unjoined print handwriting at the very top.

I am left handed too which makes writing at a slant very difficult, even though I would like to.

Liverpool: Seated or Standing?

Hello everyone. Im hoping to see Morrissey in the M&S Bank Arena in Liverpool this December with my parents. It’s my first concert of any kind. However, we don’t know whether to sit or to stand. Im a fairly tall person and I don’t mind queuing outside for an hour or two if it means we’re at least in the middle of the standing floor. I know there’s people who queue for ages and even camp outside just so they can get to the barricade, Im not interested in being that close, but I still want a good view of Morrissey.

Or, alternatively, do I drop all of this hassle and just get a seated ticket? What do you guys think?

The binding is in fairly good condition, but seems to have been done quite amateurishly — some pages are stiff, and others very wrinkled.

This would have been a serialised publication in pamphlets, which then could be bound to the taste of the reader. Both co-edited by Sidney Madge.

Advertisements, title and back pages are all bound (original paper wrappers).

Small book (about A6 size). A fine binding — Gilt and blind decoration to rubbed leather on front and back covers and spine. Gilt decoration to edges of covers and around the endpapers. Heavily decorated spine, with gilt title and year of publication. The leather on the front and the back, and at the outside joints, is fairly scuffed. Inside, the binding is tightly intact; the endpapers are secure, and the front has the bookplate of “Burton”. Marbled, but now heavily worn, edges.

Full vellum binding. Good condition — gilt title and year of publication to front cover, gilt title to spine. Slight darkening on spine. Gilt top edge. Some foxing to front and last pages. Evidence of archival repair to frontispiece. Both hinge joints intact.

Number 31 of 100 copies privately printed.
