Do you recognize these rabbits? Help solve a crime (text NSFW, photo SFW)

Passing along a request from Dolly's Dream Home to recognize these rabbits and find out who did unspeakable things to their babies. Location: the greater St. Charles, MO, area.

Original post: https://www.facebook.com/share/v/1DMh7KJ9iM/

>>>

There are 55,000 of you here now, which means we have 55,000 chances that ONE person recognizes these rabbits.

And right now, we need the internet to do the thing it does best: know everybody’s business.

Last night, we walked deep into the woods in St. Charles looking for a dumped bunny and found something we’ll never forget. 5 Californian White bunnies - 2 adults and 3 babies - had been killed and skinned. Their bodies had been left behind and, in one case, we believe deliberately arranged.

But 3 survived.

Girly Pop was found earlier in the day and brought to our emergency veterinary partners. Later that night, our rescue team caught Glory and Grapes in the same area.

Glory is lactating. We believe the 3 deceased babies we found may have been hers.

Our 3 survivors witnessed things no animal should ever experience, but somehow they made it out of those woods alive. Barely.

Then you guys did something incredible.

Within 20 MINUTES of our original post, someone recognized their rabbitry tattoos and we identified the breeder they originally came from.

20 minutes! Never underestimate 55,000 rabbit people with Facebook accounts and a mission.

The breeder has been cooperative and is going through her records to help determine who purchased them. Unfortunately, it sounds like the records available may be pretty limited…so now we need to work backward another way.

We’re asking 55,000 people to look at these 3 faces.

Not the tattoos this time.

THEM.

We believe these rabbits were likely living somewhere around the St. Charles, Missouri area. Californians are pretty recognizable by their seal points and somebody may have seen this group before.

Maybe you’ve seen them at a friend’s house.

Maybe your neighbor had several white rabbits with dark ears and suddenly doesn’t.

Maybe someone recently mentioned getting rid of their rabbits.

Maybe you remember seeing Glory, Grapes or Girly Pop somewhere and didn’t think twice about it at the time.

This is your official permission to think about everyone you know and be a little nosy. Then send this post to your nosiest friend because, frankly, this is their moment.

Think through the people you know, then SHARE THIS POST so they can do the same. We don’t need all 55,000 of you to recognize them. We need this post to reach the ONE person who does.

Please do not publicly accuse anyone, contact people you suspect, or start your own investigation. If you recognize these rabbits or know anything that could connect them to a previous home, PM Dolly’s directly. We can get legitimate information where it needs to go.

Even the tiniest detail could matter.

Because somewhere between the rabbitry that bred them and the woods where we found them, these rabbits belonged to somebody.

And then at least 5 of them wound up skinned and dead.

Help us figure out how.

While we work on this, Glory, Grapes, and Girly Pop are resting. They’re slowly learning that the hands reaching toward them now are bringing food instead of pain.

Sound UP on the video. Listen to those crunches.

After everything these 3 survived, the sound of 3 rabbits peacefully eating may be the best sound on the internet today.

Yesterday they were running for their lives in the woods.

Today they have 55,000 people looking for answers.

3 little faces.

55,000 people.

1 person out there knows something.

Let’s find them.

FiOS 5G internet feedback

It's been a few years since the last group thread on the subject, so I'm checking in.

We're looking at buying a house in an area of Syracuse that is not yet served by FiOS fiber internet. FiOS 5G is the only option aside from Spectrum, and good grief I hate Spectrum.

However, I work remotely. MS Teams webinars is the most internet-intensive activity I do for work, but it's still something.

If you use FiOS 5G in Syracuse, what has been your experience with the service, connectivity, lag, and upload/download times?

Home energy audits in-person

Are there any no- or low-cost in-person home energy audits available to renters in Syracuse? National Greed referred me to NYSERDA, but they only have self-assessment tools. I'd like an actual expert to look at our unit and also tell us whose bill the laundry room and hallway lights get charged to. 😅

What type of robe/dress is this?

I'm contemplating recreating elements of this dress from "La fidèle" (1866) by Emile Vernet-Lecomte for cosplay purposes, but I'm having a hard time finding an appropriate pattern because I don't know the appropriate terms to describe the garment.

Specifically I'm trying to name the open bodice and fitted underbust closure. I've tried looking at Renaissance and Medieval SCA patterns because it feels like I've seen something similar in those fields, but I've not had luck so far.

I'd appreciate any wisdom here!

Holiday delays for waste removal

Has anyone developed a resource somewhat like the odd-even parking website to indicate which weeks have city waste removal delayed due to a holiday (on the weekend or during the work week)?

I can't find any info on the city website. I can usually guess right, but I've got about a 10% fail rate and would like to improve my odds!

Cyclomedia mapping car sightings

I've spotted this car (whether it's the same car or members of a fleet, idk) several times in different locations in Onondaga County over the past few weeks. I did some light googling and Wikipedia says it's from a street-level panoramic mapping company whose products are not available to the public (unlike, for instance, Google Maps).

Does anyone know what they're doing around here? Who's contracting them and what kind of product they're making? My car has been caught on camera several times now!

I haven't been able to get my own photo (always driving when I see them!) so this photo is yoinked from the company website. (It's a white SUV with a panoramic camera rig mounted to the roof. Decals of the Cyclomedia wordmark and the phrase "visualize a better world" are on the driver and rear driver doors respectively.)

Best Station to Elope At?

My partner and I are hoping to elope at the Metro next year during Pride. We'll be coming from out of town, and I'm familiar with several stations (I did research in DC pre-pandemic), but not all of them yet!

I'd love to hear your suggestions for picturesque stations for self-officiated vows and photos — locations that capture the Metro spirit while not inconveniencing other travelers.

Any tips are appreciated as well!

Amazon drone delivery proposal

I feel like this news item deserves its own post, as it got buried in the news roundup and is too important to miss.

>Amazon drone delivery map: See which parts of Central NY would get Prime Air service
By Rick Moriarty | rmoriarty@syracuse.com

Syracuse, N.Y. – Amazon’s planned drone delivery service will cover a 176-square-mile area spanning parts of Onondaga and Oswego counties.

>Customers within a 7.5-mile radius of the e-commerce giant’s distribution center in Clay would be eligible to have their packages delivered to their homes by drone within an hour of ordering them.

>Amazon’s battery-powered MK30 drones can carry packages of up to five pounds and fly 200 feet high. They cruise at up to 74 mph en route to a customer’s home.

>The drones drop down to an altitude of 12 feet and hover momentarily while dropping their packages to a designated spot in a customer’s yard.

>The proposed delivery area stretches into Syracuse and the towns of Camillus, Cicero, DeWitt, Geddes, Lysander, Onondaga, Salina and Van Buren. It also dips into southern Oswego County, just south of the village of Phoenix.

>Map shows the area around Amazon's distribution center in Clay, New York, where the company  plans to make drone delivery service available. Created with Map Developers

>When customers place their orders, Amazon’s app will let them know if drone delivery is an option for them.

>Jeff Cleland, principal of infrastructure and regulatory affairs for Amazon’s drone service, Prime Air, said the company is in the process of getting Federal Aviation Administration approval to operate its drones from Clay.

>The company will also need permission from the Clay Planning Board to modify the center’s site plan to accommodate the drone service.

>Amazon offers drone deliveries in eight locations around the country. This would the first time it has offered the service in the Northeast.

>The company is hoping to launch the drone service this year. However, Cleland said it’s possible the start of the service will get pushed into 2027 depending on how long it takes to get the necessary regulatory approvals.

>Amazon opened the 3.8-million-square-foot facility on Morgan Road in 2022. It employs more than 3,000 people.

>Company representatives told about 50 people at a public information session in Syracuse Wednesday that 15 to 20 employees would load and maintain the drones at a facility to be built in the northern portion of the center’s parking lot.

>The drones are fully automated, flying a pre-programmed path to customers’ homes, then returning to the distribution center. Flight monitors at the center will observe the flights (up to six drones per monitor) on Google Maps-like screens.

>The drones would only fly during the day and never in bad weather, the representatives said.

>Cleland said the drones sound about as loud as a leaf blower while taking off and hovering while making a delivery. However, while flying to their destinations, they will be hard to hear from the ground, he said.

>Amazon’s drones are equipped with cameras that look directly ahead and behind in flight and point down while the drones descend. However, company representatives said the cameras never look into customers’ homes.

>Drone deliveries cost $4.99 for Prime members and $9.99 for non-Prime members.

>Amazon says more than 60,000 of the products it sells are eligible for drone delivery. Products delivered by drone are placed in boxes that are slightly sturdier than regular Amazon boxes so no damage occurs when they are dropped to the ground.

Personally, I am STRESSED about the prospect of those buzzing buggers zipping around over our neighborhoods. Even the toy ones that hover through my neighborhood make me want to throw hands. If anyone has any insight into whom to contact to push against the proposal, I'd appreciate the info!

Syracuse swag spotted in Try Guys video

Spotted Zach wearing a "Syracuse University Dad" sweatshirt in the We Tested Dorm Room Cooking Hacks video released this week. To the best of my research, he has no affiliation with SU (and his daughter is less than a year old), so it was a surprise to me! Thought it was a fun local cameo folks in the sub might appreciate.
