Living near Salisbury Plain

I've been looking at buying a home in one of the villages around Salisbury Plain, which I know is the home of the Army.

What is it like living near army training grounds? Do you get used to it, or is it something to avoid?

Are your abilities often underestimated by others?

People are often surprised by me because their initial impression of me is wrong. They tend to underestimate my abilities on some level.

When I was younger, I used to think people made assumptions about my intelligence because I’m a small, blonde, female.

Now I’m older, highly experienced in a strategic field, it happens less, but it still happens, to my frustration.

Have any of you experienced this? How did you deal with it?

Would you buy a house with the previous owner buried in the garden?

This is an odd one. The house matched our requirements in every respect until buried in the blurb I find out the previous owner is “buried in a discreet corner of the garden.”

What do you peeps think? Problems later?

UPDATE: I’m going to see the property (and grave tomorrow), will keep you posted on any developments!

Revenge in a tiny village

A successful local business owner, who built a profitable commercial vehicle hire company, bought a huge house on the village green as a symbol of his success and was known as a self made man in the community.

After a few years, he discovered his wife had an affair. They had a big row, and the gossip went around the small community and the adjoining villages. She went off to stay with her mother for a few days, hoping things would cool down.

He got the local demolition man to knock down the entire house with all the contents and eventually sold the land to a developer.

I have to say this: America has put on a great World Cup show

The stadia, the fans, the spectacle, have all looked great. Seems very well organised and great entertainment. It looks like everyone’s having a great time.

Blue Tit Fledglings dumped out of nesting box?

Blue Tits have used a nesting box on my potting shed for years, it’s safe and cannot be accessed by predators. I found two dead fledglings on the path yesterday and now there are sparrows using the box.

Do sparrows remove other birds from nesting boxes? I’ve never seen anything like this before.

Fairground generator sound next door for 8 hours

A loud generator type sound ruined time in my garden all day, it’s loud enough to be heard down the street, so expect other neighbours are suffering as well.

At first I thought it was an industrial air-pump inflating the largest bouncy castle ever invented, but as the hours passed at the penetrating hum continued, I figured it might be a dodgy hot tub. If it is, and it’s that loud, is there anything I can do about it?
