I try to stick the seeds and sprouts to the top of the jar

With drained seeds or sprouts I like to swirl and then snap the bottle on its size and this can lock them spread out on the surface. In the back of head my instinct is to maximize surface area and prevent the seeds and sprouts from clumping and ensuring good airflow. I just keep on doing it this way.

Typical handful for sandwich in my kitchen

I’ve seen a lot of pictures of raw sprouts in jars and a couple of photos of sprouts in a meal including with sardines which is a way like to eat tinned fish.

Here is a sandwich with a healthy handful of broccoli sprouts from the fridge (they’ve been in there for about 4-5 days). Sprouts are distributed on both sides on the sandwich over a mayo mustard spread and sliced onions. Then there is swiss, mortadella and ham all from TJs including sourdough which is unusual single source for our kitchen, and it’s finished with cracked pepper and Tabasco.

My kids when I make a sandwich get it this same way, nothing special or different for the kids, maybe no Tabasco, that’s just for me. School starts tomorrow.

If this was a meal in a bowl like a plain sprout salad with Arugula or a tikka masala I’d double the sprouts, 2 big handfuls, add some (lots and lots of) EVOO and also some Balsamic.

Pro Dry Sport -- is it legit? (Gear Dryer)

Anyone have experience with this? It checks a lot of the boxes I have about gear drying.

https://www.prodrysport.com/

Big Benefits for me

  1. I can dry in the car with my portable power supply (Anker C1000) which would be great since I'm not always back home after a session. I would plug it in and turn it on and crack car windows.
  2. I can dry without taking out all my gear out. Just connect it and forget about it. I don't have to dedicate a lot of space for my gear.
  3. Doesn't seem to add a lot of weight to my bag, it just becomes part of the bag. The heater/blower is separate.

There's not a lot of material online from what I can see. Is this just a big pillow with holes in the bottom? Does it inflate as big as a round pillow or does it stay flat?

I was thinking of designing/sewing/rigging up one of these on my own with a bunch of tinkering and design but that would be a big side project waste of time I'm sure. Or some octopus arms and legs that I'd string into the bag with couplings and T-junctions which will also eat up a bunch of time I know. And somehow connecting this to a an air-mover/blower-fan to make it work, which would be unheated, and somehow making this work, which would eat up a bunch of time I know.

Downsides:

  1. Skates should stay in the main compartment of the bag. I'll need a new bag to make this work.
  2. Price: $300 US including shipping.
  3. I'll need a new bag.

Anyone use this and how well has it worked for you?

Don’t make this mistake - drain your sprouts, don’t drown them.

A week ago I let these 2-day and 3-day old sprouts sit for a few minutes before draining the water because I thought they were extra thirsty but I forgot about them and they sat overnight for like 12 hours and they rotted after that and had to be trashed the next day after that and I knew they were dead because they began to stink a bit like compost and also look sad.

One other time I forgot to drain more mature sprouts and they sat underwater for 6 hours but they recovered.

Now, I just pour out the water right away. Except for last night I accidentally let them sit for about an hour.

Husk removal best technique so far - hand agitating and water overflow

The lighter husks float to the top via hand agitation and water sprayed into the middle of the bowl sends the husks over the edge with the running and agitated water. Sprouts stay put, it’s fast, and does not use much water.

Need endives?

This place on El Camino (Real Produce) has great vegetable selection like endives and radicchio, fresh basil, raw in-she’ll walnuts at certain times of the year, and then runs these massive sales on fruits. Last time I was there I walked out with a bag full of food for under $10. Shocked.

Meat selection is thin but every cut and offering is quality — New York’s and Ribeye, lean ground beef, veal and lots of fresh chicken cuts. You can only get meat when the butcher is there I think. Small but quality.

They‘ve got a hard fermented beef packaged sausage in the refrigerator called Sojuk, seems pricey at $20/lb but there’s nothing quite like it. My kids love it, a few small chunks go a long way for breakfast

Then there’s the deli — Mediterranean is the focus here - they’ve got the best (probably maybe) eggplant dip (baba) for miles and miles They’ll grill you fresh kebob or send you home with raw meat on a metal skewer and charge a small deposit for the skewers. Dips and salads are top notch and everything is fresh. You can get lunch and dinner plates too. Im getting hungry

Parking is easy and I need to remember to go there more cause it is awesome.

If you are from Palo Alto you already probably shop Costco, GO and TJs, the farmers market. But this place Real Produce has been open for about 2-3 years maybe and I really don’t go here enough. Telling y’all so you know to go in, and make sure tell your friends if you like it.

Has anyone else been building up their sticks this way?

it’s a first version of a design and 3d print to add some heft to the butt end, more like a tennis racket grip is produced. In tennis you can order different grip sizes like 4 1/8th or 4 5/8th depending on your hand size and preference. Tennis racket grips are 8-sided but more oval/round than wide and rectangular. In tennis, the bigger the grip the easier it is to tighten your hand but the less wrist flick/speed you have generally. For hockey, I just wanted a grip I could hold tight and prevent from slipping/spinning more easily — basically a bigger grip with more surface area

so since I’ve got a 3d printer in the garage I decided to give this technique a try with my new stick. I wanted more round/oval shape for more surface area, so the inserts were designed to beef up the flats of the stick and produce a round handle profile as shown. I have spray adhesive in the garage so I used that (3M 77) but it seems like I could have probably skipped the adhesive step with similar outcome. Inserts are mostly printed hollow and are light (about 15 grams total). I built up the butt a bit more with cloth tape and wrapped a single layer of cloth tape around the outside to secure the insert. I’ll finish the grip a tennis over grip, which I also have in the garage and have been using for as long as I can remember.

Anyone else try this?

if you have a 3d printer and want a grip profile like is shown, then I can share the file and I will find a place to post it. The design should work on pretty much any stick.

Stolen Funhang EBC2 fully loaded —replacing it with the same model in light blue.

It was fully loaded gray EBC2 with a lined and padded wire basket and an upgraded LED display that pushed the bike upwards of 23mph when pedaling extra hard and a 4-number customizable spiral bike lock.

I took that thing everywhere … tennis, pickleball, workouts, PTA meetings, school events, coffee shops, grocery shopping, TGTG runs, dinner, drinks, outdoor WFH outings with 300WH battery and laptop backpack easily in tow. I pretty much took that bike everywhere except the airport, or if I had too much equipment (eg baseball team gear). I rode it so much that my little car battery died and after a rodent shorted my wiring, the bike was used so often (my wife used the van). Shorts, pants, joggers, sandals, rain boots, hand warmers, snowboarding jacket, it was good for pretty much any season.

But … Unfortunately… it got stolen at the train station when I spent too long in the city and locked it in not the best spot out of sight from the general public. It was a dumb decision, I was not too surprised to find it gone

I finally decided, after about 2 months, there was only one reasonable move and that was to get the exact same bike, this time in light blue.

it’s arriving in a couple days and I plan to do a few of the same and some even more awesome customizations this time, like a phone holder so I can more easily listen to music or check directions when I’m riding.

The price went up by $15 from the last time I ordered it, but it’s worth it.

Small Herb/Salad Spinner Recommendations?

I’m looking for a small spinner. Something that can dry one or two handfuls of sprouta and not take up too much space.

There’s the OXO Small 3qt which is pretty small. I had one and it lasted a long time. I’m leaning towards that again. Its 8 inch round And it squeezes down tight. https://a.co/d/0aDsWY2r

Cusinart makes a 3 qt model but Ive broken my last 2 salad spinners in short time so not wanting something too cheap https://a.co/d/0hJW7AAS

Then there’s this taller one, 2.4qts with the handle, just a bit smaller at 7 inches, from Cooler Kitchen https://a.co/d/000KBgKb

Or there’s the tiny one, 6 inches round, no reviews, unclear what the capacity is, but it seems perfect for 2 large handfuls of sprouts without taking too much space. https://a.co/d/0417SkZp

thanks for any tips.

Pick, rinse, squeeze, place - First meal of the day

I skip breakfast, maybe some walnuts and a lot of coffee. It is 1pm, time to eat. We have bagels in the house so it’s an easy choice on what to grab

The way I have been eating sprouts is by the handful. Recently I have skipped processing the big batch into another container and just grab the sprouts from their sprouting jar. I will grab a handful, bring it to the sink and rinse it in my hand, squeeze off the water and then serve. This usually reduces the hulls quite a bit too.

Trigger 9 vs ProStock Hockey Sticks VX or VF

Really specific question but I picked up a Tigger 9 70 flex from the store because I was getting sick of driving and shopping around. it happened to be on sale and I won’t cut it and it’s long enough for me at ~67inches. I have always used 85+ stiffness sticks based on price/availability (for example my last regular stick was a Trigger 9 Pro 85 pro-stock from the rink) so this would be my first softer stick, ever.

The VX and VF costs about the same as what I paid for the Trigger 9 including tax and shipping but the lower flex are about an 1/2 inch shorter ~66 inches than what I want to play with in the lower 70 flex. it probably doesn’t matter so much 1/2 inch stick length difference.

Keep the Trigger 9 or return it and get a 70 flex VX or VF shipped to me? I’m in no rush but need to pick something otherwise I’ll never get a new stick.

happy with the 0.8 nozzle, mostly

I did a few fit prints and structural prints with the 0.8mm nozzle in PLA at 0.56mm thickness and they came out fast and strong. Later my son tried to print a small widget with moving parts at the extruder stopped extruding. We ran the spool removal, resumed, and the next prints had no issue. Maybe there was something with the box, I'm not sure.

A few other recent prints in 0.4 in Gray ASA and White PLA also thrown in.

It’s relatively fast and clean. Preinstalled ~0.30mm thickness “Strength” option.

No supports on this one despite a suggestion from Qidi studio on the front lip.

There is a 1.5x1.5x1.0in steel weight precisely snap fit into the base for stability.

Pasture raised eggs - 24 eggs / $4.29

bogo. I go into GO to get these eggs. pasture raised means the chickens are in the grass and fields and have access to insects and grass and worms.

i can’t get pasture raised at Costco

pasture-raised is a real certification — and a massive step up from free-range. Here’s the key breakdown:

Space per hen:

•	Conventional/caged: 67 sq inches

•	Cage-free: \~1 sq ft (indoors only)

•	Free-range: less than 2 sq ft — and many of those hens seldom see the light of day

•	Pasture-raised: at least 108 sq ft each, outdoors foraging on grass, bugs, and worms

The certification piece: The USDA doesn’t regulate “pasture-raised,” so the meaningful standard comes from third-party orgs like Certified Humane® (HFAC). To qualify, there can be no more than 1,000 birds per 2.5 acres, fields must be rotated, and hens must be outdoors year-round with housing for protection.

I fell on my keys and the loop cracked and it left a bruise too, everything works fine otherwise. 2020 Civic.

SoI got an empty case from Amazon, see it pictured. I am trying to move the key and electronics to the new case but I can’t get it loose, it seems like it’s welded/glued into place.

Is it actually possible to remove the electronics and key and to put them into a new case?
