Built a little portable synth studio using an Ikea cart

I had a big Jaspers stand for a while, but it was pretty much always gathering dust. It's too big (or I don't have enough gear), and I was never fan of the ergonomics. But the biggest issue was, that it was a different desk from my computer. So I could either use JUST the Push + Modular or JUST the Mac, or I had to move everything over. Now I have my Speakers connected to my mac directly, and this cart connects to the speakers, USB C and power via one big tether out the back. It's next to my desk and I can just pull it out, turn it on and have everything setup, no matter what I wanna do.

This is an Ikea Raskog cart (the big one, there are two sizes), and the bamboo top cover hides the wires unterneath. I've used a thick wooden dowel rod I had, used some long hose clamps to connect it to the back of the cart and mounted the Befaco case using a VESA pipe clamp I used for my Jaspers stand. It's a little bit wobbly, but not to the point that it bothers me.

I've added two panel mount headphone jacks on the front, so I don't need to dig around the back or below my case to find them. Wasn't the best job to do inside my office tho, I had metal shavings flying everywhere 🫠

I really like how it turned out overall, now I'll jam :D

I've rebuild my studio. It's now a little cart tethered to my desk :D

I'm a sucker for weird and whimsical gauges, so here's some Gnine (in my case: 1:35 scale on 9mm track).

I bought some 1:35 military kits, they're readily available and fairly cheap, and I already love the level of detail and ease of working you get here instead of my usual H0 scale.

The locomotive is still a bit wip, I'm still planning to add more details, and then get it resin printed insted of fdm.

Day one of my no-phone kit.

I'm growing more and more tired of always being on my phone, so I'm building a little EDC bag that has a bunch of other fun stuff to keep me entertained.

Bag is a Tomtoc T21 X-Pac. It's quite stiff, but works great so far.

Contents:
- Anbernic RG34XXSP, a Linux-based handheld (Used for GBA games, MP3 player via Rockbox and as a music making device with the M8 headless tracker, that's why there's a random Teensy)
- Baseus AC22 10.000mAh Powerbank
- inCharge Multi-Cable (USB A, C, Micro, Lightning)
- DJI Osmo Nano with Mic 3 and printed lens caps (fun little camera)
- Tiny notebook + Pen / Marker
- My janky ass slim wallet (plastic bag with cards and cash in it, wanna test if this is enough before buying anything)
- Sennheiser IEM 100 Pro Headphones
- A bit of duct tape, has been in my wallet for years and served useful on many occasions
- medication and tissues (allergies 🫠)
- business cards

It's just day one, so far I'm having fun, but there will probably be quite a few changes and additions in the next few weeks / months. Currently I still have my iPhone with me, but it'll be replaced with an old Motorola Razr v3 once I've build a working charging cable for that.

Got my headless setup running today, including MIDI analog sticks.

Been jamming with the teensy on my computer for a while. Yesterday I bought one of these fancy retro handheld emulators, for gaming actually. Only later I realized, that I can put the M8C on there. Works like a charm, was setup in minutes.

I used Claude to build a little python script that reads the analog sticks and sends the data to the teensy via MIDI, so I can use both sticks as MIDI controllers (they always snap to center tho, so usefulness depends. Is fun with the master filter :D)

If you were wondering if you can run a Make Noise Strega on a 16-20V powerbank: Yes, you can. (I made a video-teardown if you want to learn more)

I kinda hate clickbait titles, yet I made one 😂 Do you guys prefer direct answers in the titles like here on this post? Or does the original spark some curiosity?

I wish we could rename presets.

I have both a Pocket 4 and the Osmo Nano now, and the included preset icons are just dumb. Do I look like I go skiing, diving and motor biking? I'd either some more custom icons or the option to rename the presets inside the Mimo App. So we could label by function. POV on the Nano for no stabilization, Horizon Balance On/Off, different framerate / exposure settings (indoor / outdoor) etc.

What's your workaround of choice? Do you (like me) assign random icons that might match through a stretch of imagination and hope you can guess by looking at that and the settings? Or is there a better way?

FYI, Osmo Nano 128GB is currently 249€ in the DJI Store (for me in Germany at least)

Just bought one, that's the lowest price I've seen so far I think

I've bought Multigrain to replace my Beads, but am using it pretty much as a 1:1 replacement. Later today I'll do a little livestream, where I try to finally learn what else it can do 😂

To say I've been heavily under-utilizing MG is an understatement xD I pretty much always just enable live grains, twist some random knobs until I'm happy and then just let it bloop.

But that has to change. It's such an awesome module, and I want to appreciate it more. I've spent the past couple of days watching all the Intellijel video manuals and preparing some samples (I've never taken the SD card out before, and I've had it for a year...). I have some fun ideas (and an assortment of analog sound makers), and I'll be streaming my explorations live on YouTube tonight: https://glnnk.art/live

Come say hi, enjoy some random granular noodles and suggest me your favourite patches with Multigrain!

Protective Case with Push-On ND Filters?

Hey guys, planning to get a Nano.
I'm wondering: will these push-on style filters work with the included protective case? I'd like to keep the nano on a little wrist band and I don't see a mount for that on the cam itself, but the case seems to have one. But it also looks like it might be blocking push-on filters.

Any experiences?

A while ago I posted my telegraph key I've found at a flea market, here's the video on how I made a little breakout module that allows me to use it as a eurorack controller (with some jams). It's a ton of fun.

Maybe I'll make a proper module for use cases like these (dual foot pedal, telegraph keys, pretty much anything with two analog buttons could be used). I've added a little mockup on how that could look at the end. Let me know if that's something you'd be interested in!

If I ever get around to making it, it will be available as open source files you can get manufactured wherever you prefer.

40x50cm, a Little industrial / city scene on the left, a little flower farm in the middle, and a small passenger station.

Is supposed to fit perfectly on my IKEA Ivar shelf. Will be interesting to see how this will play out, the radii are quite tight, but should work.

Will try to document the whole process on YouTube, next step is building a little 1:4 miniature to check the vibe.
