Vetting Adopters - Columbus, GA

I don't know if this is the right place for this, but I need some help.

I have 4 kittens from a litter that a feral cat had in my husband's project car. (yes, they were born IN the car.) They are 9-10 weeks old at this point, and Mama is with them. She will be getting spayed ASAP. But we need to adopt out 3 of the kittens because I absolutely do not want to put them into the small colony we have. They're socialized, and they don't deserve that.

I don't want to end up in the Walmart parking lot with a 'free kittens' sign. I feel like that wouldn't be fair to them either. Does anyone have any ideas on how to vet potential adopters? I was in contact with a rescue, but they seem to have ghosted me, even though I offered to foster the kittens up until the moment they were adopted.

The kittens are getting adequate care. Shots, deworming, the works. The only thing I likely won't be able to do is a neuter for the boys. We're keeping the girl it seems.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Since the congressional map from 2024 is being thrown out, District 1, which includes Russell County, will have a special election on August 11th to help decide the races expected next Tuesday. Things will be changing as the map gets reverted to include one less black-majority district.

Please please PLEASE! Still get out and vote. Local elections still count. It will only be the congressional district elections that will be voided until the election on August 11th. Please put August 11th down on your calendars, but still remember to vote this go around, too!

Most things that are outside my daily routine feel performative to me. Like, let's say, for Christmas you want to watch a Christmas movie and have hot chocolate. For me, that would feel very performative and like something extra and over the top to do. Or like, if you were to go out and blow bubbles on a summer day. Performative.

How do I get around this? I want whimsy and fun in my life. I want to create new rituals for myself for daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly things. I consider myself to be an ill-practicing pagan because I never celebrate the sabbats (holidays), even though that is the main focus of my practice. It really irks me because I do want to celebrate. But everything just feels extra and over the top, even if it is as simple as baking bread or putting out something fun related to the seasons.

I still have childhood rituals that I follow for events with my family. Baking around Christmas, a new dress in the spring, and always getting a birthday cake at Publix. I've added some of my own, too, like a Yule log cake around Yule. That doesn't feel performative. Maybe it's because I just love cake.

What are your secrets for not feeling like getting out of the daily routine is being extra? Like, today would be the perfect day to go out and blow bubbles. Maybe it's an energy thing for me. I am very low energy, so doing something out of the ordinary can be a drain. Or maybe it's just me being very protective of my time. I'm not sure. But I really do want to do stuff that I don't normally do without feeling stupid or feeling like things will be performative.

I'm trying to cut a tag for a new kitten I am getting. My mock-ups ended up wonky. I tried my hardest not to move the material that the tag was cut from, and I think I did mostly ok on that, but I put the tag back into the material a little skewed, and so it engraved weirdly.

My cuts also come out with the edges angling out a bit. So, the edges are more like a slope than straight up and down. That might have contributed to the tag not wanting to go in place just right. Could this be an alignment issue? I usually do 4-5 passes at about 17.5%. The material usually discolors if I do it any higher, even with the mask on. The mask will also catch fire, which only discolors it even more. I've had better results without the mask, but still, the discoloration persists from time to time. I've also had it warp from too much power as well, and that was at around 25%. My main supplier is CMB and I use 1/8th.

I'm also incredibly terrible with paint filling. I was using acrylic paint with the mask on. Even took a hairdryer to it. Still smeared. Any tips on that? Or would a different color core acrylic be better?

I joined a new (to me) 3rd party billing company a few months ago and was recently informed that I will be placed on the RHC team. Florida, Georgia, Kansas, North Carolina, Kentucky, Texas, and maybe Wisconsin, Illinois, and Colorado. Does anyone have any tips for RHC billing? Any small things to keep an eye out for? I will be using UBs and HCFAs/CMSs, and I have a feeling I will be working with all commercial/government payors.

My main history is in WC, with some dabbling in commercial/government payors. Enough to get me by. I'm learning more about them every day and am VERY grateful to have portals for basically the first time in my career.

If anyone has any tips for RHC billing, commercial payors in these states, and government payors in these states, please let me know! I do remember that one of the Carolinas' BCBS was a pain to get a hold of on the phone, but I can't remember which one.

Five weeks ago, I saw a pregnant cat (Cara Cara) wandering around my house. She was due any day. She's had kittens before, and we still have her first batch of babies hanging around our house as ferals. They don't bother anyone, and my neighbor feeds them. We are in the process of getting the boys neutered. The only girl has already been spayed.

We have a project car, my husband's Miata, and the transmission was out for repairs, leaving a hole in the body for our feral cats to get in and out of. They weren't doing anyone harm, so it was fine. Just some orange fur in the seat and floorboard. But then I saw mama, and I just knew she was going to give birth in there. The day we went to cover the hole, we saw the kittens.

We originally thought they would be ok in the car. It was a safe place for the kittens. But then it got hot, and mama started panting. I freaked out and rushed to get her into our climate-controlled garage. It took a few hours to catch her, and I ultimately had to personally push her butt into the trap, but we got her. She and the kittens have been in the garage since the kittens were 4 days old.

They have grown so much in the past 5 weeks. They are playing, starting to eat wet food, drinking water, and pooping on their own now! Today was their first vet visit for a check-up and some dewormer. They are doing extremely well, and they will be going back next weekend for their first vaccinations.

I have been in touch with a rescue since the day I found them, and our plan is to give the kittens to the rescue so they will be safely adopted out to vetted homes. Mama is getting spayed and then going back outside with her older babies. Whether she chooses to stay or not is up to her.

However, it looks like we may be keeping one of the kittens! Who? I'm not 100% sure yet. We have the 3 boys (oranges named Bongo, Porter, and Scrum) and the 1 girl (a tabby named Miata). They're named after Mazda vehicles, affectionately referred to as the Mazdas. Porter is the most playful, Miata is the most socialable, Bongo sits somewhere in the middle, and Scrum is reserved and shy, but he explores the most. I was going to let my current cats pick who they wanted, but with the FiV risk and the kittens not being vaccinated yet, it looks like my cats won't get to meet the kittens after all, with the timeline we are currently following with the cat rescue group.

Currently, I am thinking I will keep Porter. The vet said he'll likely be a long-haired boy, and I just lost my long-haired lady about a year and a half ago. I miss how silky she was. I know I want one of the boys, because my current boy, Abaddon, lives in a house with 2 ladies who only just put up with him, and he really needs a friend. Plus, they're orange. We don't have an orange cat, and obviously need one for our collection.

I would say the cat distribution system delivered us 5 new friends. Cara Cara is very food receptive, and I have a feeling she might stick around this time instead of wandering off to get knocked up again, the floozie she is. Again, she'll be spayed, so this won't happen a third time. This is the first time the CDS has ever granted me a cat that I could keep, so I am very pleased! Thank you, Cat Distribution System!

(I promise there is a 4th cat in the 2nd pic. He's just hiding behind Miata.)
