Volunteer opportunities in UWS?

Hi everyone! Does anyone know of any volunteer opportunities around the UWS that are fairly drop-in/flexible and don’t require a big ongoing commitment? I’d love to get more involved in the neighborhood and help out when I have free time, especially on weekends or after work. Open to pretty much anything — animals, food pantries, community events, parks, etc. Thanks! :)

Cat on west 81st and Amsterdam

hi all, there seems to be a cat lingering the streets on 81st right by the corner of Amsterdam. It has a pink collar on and is super friendly, but people passing by also were asking if it’s lost or what the deal is. Does anyone know whose cat this is and if it’s safe? I will put a photo I just took of it

Places in UWS that are remote work / WFH friendly?

Hi everyone, my job just transitioned to 3 days WFH, and I was wondering if anyone has found a cafe or space that is computer/work friendly in the area. I live in the 80’s but don’t mind a little walk, would love to hear where other remote workers get their work done!

Thanks

Best affordable gel pedicure in UWS?

Hi everyone! I recently moved to the low 80s on the Upper West Side and I’m looking for recommendations for a good nail salon nearby.

I’m mainly looking for a gel pedicure that’s clean, reliable, and reasonably priced. If you’ve had a gel pedicure recently, I’d love to know approximately what you paid (if you remember) since I’m still getting a sense of what prices are like in the area.
Thanks!

How do I talk to my partner about getting sober when they still smoke socially?

I’m a few weeks into quitting weed after being a chronic smoker for a long time, and honestly it’s been a lot harder emotionally than I expected. I used weed to mask a lot of anxiety/stress and now that I don’t have that coping mechanism, everything feels very raw and intense. I feel more anxious, emotionally sensitive, and overwhelmed in general.

My partner still smokes socially sometimes, and I don’t resent him for it or want to control what he does, but I do feel kind of alone in this experience. I think I need more support from him emotionally, but I’m struggling to explain what I’m going through without sounding dramatic or needy.

Has anyone else navigated sobriety while their partner still smokes? How did you communicate what you needed from them? And how do you deal with the anxiety/emotional flood that comes with no longer “numbing” everything?

Would really appreciate hearing from people who’ve been through this.

18 days off leaves - feeling disconnected from my relationship?

Hey friends. I’ve been struggling with some feelings and want to come on here and ask if this is normal or expected.

Long story short, I smoked leaves from 16-23 pretty much daily and starting early in the morning until night. I decided to quit cold turkey and I’ve been 18 days off. I went through horrible physical withdrawals for about a week but they did pass.

Since I have quit, I feel like I am becoming a different person. And it is kinda scaring me. I have been with my partner for 2+ years, they are kind, loving, supportive and generally just a good person. Since I quit, I am feeling all sorts of frustration towards the relationship and feeling super nitpicky over little things. We have never argued so much than in the past couple of weeks. I feel more vocal now about things that happened months ago, I feel more emotional or upset about them, but while I was using every day I totally just didn’t care and brushed these things off. When I’m around my partner now I just feel sort of a disconnect and I cannot figure out why. I’ve been crying so much over it, my partner is like my best friend and I can’t understand why I’m having these feelings after making a healthy decision for myself. I don’t feel the excitement I once had, I feel sort of numb and experiencing a lot of anxiety that before I would just cope with smoking. I want to get into therapy and work through these things because I know that I’ve been avoiding dealing with life for years now. I just am so distraught that the most stable and fulfilling relationship is feeling so numb and disconnected from me at this time and I’m very anxious that it will not pass. I have also noticed this with a couple of my close friendships, I feel like I want to just be alone and I do not feel a desire to connect with anyone at this stage. I don’t know how to talk to my partner about this because they have done nothing wrong, they are encouraging on my journey, and I do not want them to think they are the problem, it just feels like my personality and life have changed so much already in 18 days.

Can anyone please tell me, have you experienced this, does it get better? Why am I feeling like this?

Grateful for any response or experiences.
Thank you community.

Best therapists uptown that accept Medicaid Healthfirst ?

NYC bitches with taste please help me out 😭

Looking for a REALLY good trauma therapist in Manhattan (preferably uptown) that accepts Medicaid/Healthfirst. I’m trying to find someone experienced with childhood trauma/PTSD/anxiety who actually helps you process things and doesn’t just tell you to “practice gratitude” for 45 minutes lol.

I’ve noticed a lot of Medicaid therapists end up being more general social-work based counseling, which is totally valid, but I’m specifically looking for someone actually trained in trauma modalities like DBT or EMDR and equipped to handle deeper trauma work. I really want someone who understands nervous system responses, dissociation, emotional regulation, etc. and not just surface-level coping skills.

Would love recommendations from people who personally had a good experience, especially if they’re warm, emotionally intelligent, and good with long-term trauma. Virtual is okay too but Manhattan preferred.

Also open to hearing who to avoid 🫶

Thanks girls

Laundry spots in the low 80s?

Hey guys, moving to UWS from Brooklyn at the end of this month in the low 80’s / Amsterdam. I have a great place in my current neighborhood that does wash and fold for a good price and hoping to find comparable! Does anyone recommend any laundry places in this area and how much does it typically run you for wash and fold?

Thanks!

Did quitting weed make anyone else finally process years of buried emotions

Hey guys. I’m sorry if this is a really stupid question but I’m struggling and could really use advice on what’s happening to me. Background I started using leaves around 16 years old to deal with some heavy childhood trauma and other issues. I began using every day for years, from morning to sleep. It made everything feel better, emotionally. I felt stronger to deal with stuff and nothing ever bothered me. Today is week 3 of quitting leaves completely, and I feel SO different emotionally. Basically, I’ve been having crying spells over past events (these events didn’t bother me during my leaves haze that lasted years) but somehow now they are really hurting me emotionally and I can’t stop crying over them. It feels like when I was using everyday it just didn’t penetrate my emotional system and now that I’m off of it, everything or my real feeling are coming back. Can this happen? There was an event that happened about a year ago that looking back, I really brushed aside and forgot about. But now I’m thinking about it and I feel so much emotion, angry and sad and wondering how I just brushed it off. Does this happen? Can anyone tell me why? I’m 23 now and quit for good, I used it too much as a crutch. Thanks guys. Again sorry if stupid question.

WHY AM I SO HUNGRY DAY 11

Hey guys I just wanted to ask if anyone else has experienced this or can tell me why!

Today is day 11 with no leaves. The first week I had absolutely no appetite and actually I threw up when I tried to eat. My favorite foods made me feel nauseas for days.

On around day 8 or 9 my appetite seems to have come back full fledged. I feel literally ravenous. I didn’t even crave food like this when I had the “munchies”! Ive been eating 3 meals a day now and I even crave things like fruit and vegetables… This NEVER happened while I was using green.

Can someone explain why this is happening? I feel like people always say leaves helps you with appetite and I literally used to tell me friends that using leaves before eating helped me a lot. This has me so confused! Haha I’m not complaining because I’ve been trying to gain weight but I’m just curious why it’s going on…

Thanks guys

Largest Private Tire Manufacturers / Suppliers?

I’ve been trying to research the global tire supply chain and realized most of the major OEM tire companies are publicly traded, so there’s a lot of information available on them.

What I’m struggling to find is a good overview of the largest privately owned tire manufacturers or suppliers worldwide. Are there any major private players that people in the industry would point to?

Anyone know a private tire manufacturer?

Random question for the tire industry people here — who are the biggest privately owned tire manufacturers in the world? Most lists online only focus on the huge public OEM brands, so I’m wondering which private companies are actually major players.

How long has it taken to send a letter from NYC to Connecticut?

Hey everyone, looking for some input. I sent out two Mother’s Day cards on May 4, dropped in a blue box with Forever stamps on them. It’s now May 12, and the cards still have not arrived to my destination, which is only one state away! I feel terrible because my parents are telling me it likely got taken or something but I’m trying to remain hopeful. Can anyone tell me, should it take more than 8 business days to arrive to a neighbouring state? I don’t know when to give up LOL but I’m starting to feel disappointed.
