Cannot Keep Up With Kids Homework Demands

Have a kid going into 1st Grade this September. I assume first grade is worse than Kindergarten with the homework load? Any tips to help me keep up? I work full time and generally try to keep up with daily things like cooking/cleaning/being a human being on planet earth. But Kindergarten was rough - they would send kiddo home with 4-5 hours of homework a night. And I was the homework enforcer. Meaning when kiddo wanted to play outside or see friends before homework was done, I had to say NO. Had to make sure they did their remarkable robust amounts of homework each night before other freedoms of childhood could be enjoyed. Homework was generally a mix of graded assignments, mandatory readings, and studying for exams. I don't remember much from that age myself, but I don't recall doing this much homework?

Real Estate Platypus High School

Chicago makes no sense. One of the hottest trendiest real estate neighborhoods (Bucktown/Logan Square/Wicker Park) is zoned for a highschool that is abysmal (Clemente LOL). How TF is that possible? The avg home value in a zone for Taft Highschool (which has grown in rankings and might now be considered a "good" highschool) is surely lower than the values that get routed to Clemente? Just like a platypus - makes no damn sense

Poaching From NY LA Chicago

Hey Texas - please start hitting these blue state cities where it hurts??? Steal their prized businesses:

Chicago can easily convince United and McDonalds to leave

LA you can get Netlix to come to Austin

NYC I think get Verizon and Metlife

I see no reason you cannot steal these HQ, and you will offer ample parking for their employees !!

Subsidized Daycare?

Live in a decent suburb, they have responded to the national complaints about cost of daycare. They are offering to subsidize kids daycare tuition. Was paying $1,500/month for 3 days/week. New rate $500 for same times. Reason for skepticism is the old "You don't want Uncle Sam messing with the private sector" and various other friends/family claiming this is bordering communism. Should I be concerned?

Less Energy Usage

Hey All - I have an undersized dong that borders micropenis level. I compensate by having a collection of overly loud or overly large vehicles. I like driving the loud ones late at night, and the large ones in dense urban areas. I realize this is using lots of gas (energy). How do my micro-sized brothers compensate without using too much fuel?

2 Year Old Boy

2 Year Old Boy loves his stuffed animals, but I'm convinced if he holds onto that habit much longer, he'll grow up to he weak/woke/drive a Prius vs. F150/do lame sports like swimming vs. manly ones like MMA. You get the point. How to I stop this "stuffy" stuff and get him into more manly interests?

Pedestrians In My Way!!

How do you all deal with stupid pedestrians using the sidewalk when you are trying to bike/ebike/motorbike? I like to ride full speed on sidewalks, especially on my ebike. Pedestrians come in and out of doors and are walking their dogs/kids. They are so rude and mean to me!!! Yelling at me, flicking me off. I try to argue with them back, saying they should watch out for me, but it usually just gets more heated. How do you guys deal with these selfish clowns on the sidewalks?

Private Equity Purchasing Lake Michigan?

Is this possible? Can we sell Lake Michigan to private equity to help fill the local/state budget issues? Seems like a win-win. PE takes control of an asset and streamlines it for efficiencies, Chicago/IL get huge amounts of money.

I Don't Understand the Market

I don't get it. All I ever hear on the news is how people are fleeing to "greener pastures". How in the world is local real estate so expensive, and in general, much older than "hotter markets"? You always hear how people are fleeing to places with low-taxes and more highways lol. Dallas, Houston, anywhere in Florida, Arizona, etc. OK, noted, so then how the **** we charging so much for homes up here? Who is moving in?? And yes, indeed, I did some googling. You can get a super nice/spacious new-build about 1.5 hours outside of downtown Dallas in the mid 700s. Can we blame the flee-ers?

Gas Price Relief Via Transit

This cost of gas is really burning holes in the wallet. We gotta look for clever ways to get some relief, whether its seeking that from elected officials or whoever. Has anyone put serious thought into using the recent CTA funding (something about getting billions in aid from JB Pritzker clever bait-and-switch tactic...) to subsidize IL gas costs? Like....stop funding the CTA as much so we can catch a break at the pump??

I don't get it - it's like a platypus - makes no sense. All I hear is that you cannot cannot use Chicago Public Schools. It's apparently a pipeline to prison or teen pregnancy. OK - noted - but then why are many many many single family homes so preposterously expensive? Surely some prospective buyers intend to use Chicago Public Schools (?) Maybe? Isn't home value somewhat tied to quality of local schools? As example, I knew a family who had used private school for K-8. Their kid tested into Walter Payton HS but they refused to send them there simply because it was CPS. Have since moved out of Chicago, if I recall.
