Can i make a true micro fishing rod for cheap?

I'd like to get into micro fishing, but my idea of it is not often what I actually see online. I don't want to micro fish with a normal ultralight rod, i want a rod specifically for micro fishing, where if i were to accidentally hook into a bluegill, it would fight like a shark. It would also be real small, maybe a foot-foot and a half.

I know the general principles of making a rod, at least with installing eyes and a reel seat and all that jazz. But my question is:

Can i make a micro fishing rod for cheap? what should i use for the blank?

Any help is greatly appreciated!!

Anybody fish Pine Creek in PA?

I live in Southeast PA where there's no trout, but i'm visiting lock haven university for a few days in 2 weeks (July 8-July 11) and am staying in a creekside cabin in Jersey Shore. I could quite literally fish from my window, but there's 2 kayaks/canoes (whatever one's the single person one) and i'm excited to fish it (i've never actually trout fished before because i literally can't in my area)

I have a 0/1wt, a 3/4wt, and a 5/6wt.

Does anyone have any input they could share on what i should use/ throw? Any help is greatly appreciated!

How can i identify a fly?

I've seen similar questions here, but i still haven't gotten the info i yearn for.

I'm somewhat new to fly fishing, and recently i thrifted a box of flies, and have no idea what a single one of them are. i don't just wanna know if it's a dry fly or a wet fly or whatever, i want to know what it is specifically. there's lit millions of patterns and names for flies, but i want to identify pretty specifically what i have. how should i go about this? also i've attached some pics of flies that have piqued my interest id anyone wants to be extra cool and help me identify.

lol regardless any help is greatly greatly appreciated!

Film scanner says it's compatible with windows XP, Vista, and 7. I have windows 11. it also has a driver/application software disc, but i don't have a way to download the stuff from that disc. How can i use it?

I need body text so my question is as above.

The film scanner is called Digital Prism Blazephoto 3-in-1 photo converter. It runs blazephoto 2.0 i believe.

Cheap flies online?

My nearest fly shop is over an hour away, and i don't want to make that journey often. I am relatively new to fly fishing and don't know much about shopping for them. What are y'all's favorite/cheapest sites to buy flies online? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Never fly-tied before.. are squirmy worms a good place to start?

I live in SEPA, where there are no natural trout but a ton of small creeks, so i've recently taken up fly fishing with a real short tennessee handle rod (until my 2wt comes in which i'm very very excited for) just cause precision casting is a little more tricky but a ton more rewarding. That's to say i'm not a "purist" and have no grudge against squirmy worms like so many others apparently had. In fact, that's all i used my first couple trips, and is by far my most effective fly. However, i recently lost mine, and want to stock up a bunch. I figured it would be more cost effective and educational to tie my own as long as they're simple to tie. plus, i want to make them ASAP and can get the materials quick on amazon.

Long unnecessary story condensed into a few questions:
are squirmy worms easy to tie?
what other flies should i look into for panfish?

Eurotackle Z-walker W-T-D lure- thoughts? and/or will it work for sunnies and fallfish?

The local creek i fish at doesn't have much trout or bass, but it has a stupid amt of sunnies/bluegill, creek chubs, an occasional crappie, and some big ass fall fish. i've never fished topwater, so i have a few noobie questions:

  1. anyone who's used this or something akin to this, thoughts?
  2. will it work for those species?
  3. will it work besides early morning/evening? (i'm not even sure if this is true but i was told topwater only works in early morning and at dusk)

Small creek tackle box-any and all thoughts/criticisms wanted

I tried to consolidate all the stuff i use for wading in my local, small SEPA creek into 1 tackle box. any thoughts/opinions/criticisms/praises are welcome, don't hold back. Anything i should add? remove? do different? i'm interested in hearing yalls thoughts

edit: the species in this creek are a ton of bluegill/sunfish, creek chub, pretty big fall fish, and occasionally small crappie and bass.

2nd edit: the lines are incase i need to retie a leader (i hate running straight braid)

I found this Pfleuger Microspin combo for $2 at a thrift store. It still has wrapping on the cork and for $2 i'm not gonna do a thorough inspection in-store. after cutting back the line, i still found it stupidly hard to reel. The reel is making a highly audible noise and is not at all easy to crank.

I picked up 2 lenses from a thrift store for $5 each, just because why not? One is some sort of canon mount i believe, and the other i believed to be nikon F but was mistaken. can anyone help me identify the mounts, and maybe if there's any cheap/good bodies that would go along with them?

u/south43paw — 2 months ago

the specs of it really don't look that bad whatsoever and the few reviews are great, but for the price point i'm having my doubts

u/south43paw — 2 months ago

I've been using a thrifted SRT101 for about a year and a half now and absolutely love it and the 55mm f/1.7 lens that came with it. today, i picked it up and took one shot with it, and it sounded wrong. it was just a *tink* instead of the usual mirror sound. now, the film lever won't budge.

Anybody know of anything that could cause this, or how to fix it? and help is so so appreciated this things like my baby!
