View from the Top at Pier Six in Baltimore Tonight

Might've been half a mile away, but I loooved having plenty of room to shimmy up on the lawn! Bunch of us got a whole lil dance floor going - quite a treat.

The weather was HOT and the Mule was even hotter. They closed out with Ron Holloway joining them on sax for the best "Soulshine" I think I've ever heard.

I fuckin' love this band.

What band/artist would you gladly drive 3+ hours to see?

I'm back on the scene this year after a loooong hiatus and I wanna learn the landscape better. I find a long drive is a good indicator of a strong love. So! Who's worth the travel time to you? What groups have you traveled like that for recently??

Edit: what an overwhelming response!!!! I love you all and I love the enthusiasm in this community. Thank you for giving me this wealth of groovy avenues to drive down.

Morgantown, WV show cancelled less than two weeks out

No official explanation has been given, although the venue was running a two-for-one ticket sale several days ago which suggests slumping sales. Damn shame. Hope all is well with the band.

Flattening (and Reglueing?) Old Sleeves

I got a nice stack o' shellac at an auction last week, and a handful of the records were still wearing their little jackets. Obviously, the sleeves have seen better days. Since the records had seemingly been slipped into these sleeves at random (none of the labels matched up) I went ahead and set them aside.

Some of them are folded/curled pretty bad at the corners, and I'm hoping for guidance on getting them to lay flatter. This paper is older than anything I've handled, and definitely pretty porous.

Many sleeves are also split along at least one seam. Obviously this will be a lost cause in most cases, but some have enough "good" paper left that I think I could apply some adhesive. Would my old buddy Elmer Glue Stick be up for this task? Something else? Or maybe just don't?

I'm not fussed about a picture-perfect restoration of these sleeves; their wear is part of their charm! But I'd like to get them nominally functional in a way that will help reduce future damage.

Finally, if there's interest, I'll be glad to photographically catalog all the different sleeves and share them with the sub. However, being fairly new to the hobby, I've no idea if any of these are rare enough to merit that treatment - presumably, most hobbyists have already been there/done that.

Thanks, pals! Keep spinnin' those platters!

What's the best spot on the '17 Bolt's roof to support my weight?

I have a couple long road trips coming up, and I like to sit and enjoy the view while I charge. I'm keeping this car til one of us dies, so I'm not too worried about any cosmetic damage.

I'm 135lbs. The car is around 3600lbs. It has rails, but no roof rack.

I'm posting from the roof currently. Judge me if you must. The guy who watched me scramble up here sure did.

Where are you all sourcing your parts?

I've accumulated a few donor units at this point, and I've had decent luck with replacement belts from AliExpress. But I'm also slowly evolving from rank amateur status to someone who cares about doing high-quality work. One lesson I've learned in the painting/wallpapering trade is that a decent job cannot overcome shoddy materials. A cheap capacitor (or whatever) might be perfectly serviceable in the short term, but it's no good if it doesn't last.

So, I'm hoping to get pointed in the right direction by people who know their shit better than me. Are there specific sites/vendors one can frequent for high-quality parts? Or is this perhaps a case of "it's not where you look, it's how you look for it," and good components are readily available on eBay or Amazon for those who have the proper eye for them.

Cleaning/restoring a Lenox Sound CT-99 - but just a little

This was my late dad's old jobsite radio, his companion while doing painting and interior decorating contracting. It was work he took a lot of pride in.

Now, I'll be the first to acknowledge that this boombox is a strong candidate for r/blackplasticcrap. He bought a cheap model on purpose because of the decent change that it might get lost or destroyed. But for nostalgic reasons, I'm holding on to this unit as something to bring to my own worksites.

I have no problem with fixing up the interior, new belts, clean tape head, deoxit, etc etc. I know my way around that kind of restoration work.

My challenge is with the exterior: I would STRONGLY prefer to preserve the evidence of how well-loved this radio was. I don't want to wipe off any of the dried-on paint or polish out any of the scuffs. But it should still be cleaned of dirt and debris from the last couple decades.

So my question - does anyone have any suggestions for removing JUST dirt and dust? So often, our cleaning and restoration work aims to get a device looking as good as new. In this rare case, I don't want it to look like it's fresh out of the box in 2001, but rather to look like the well-worn tool that it is. A gentle wipe with a damp rag will be my first step, but I would love to hear any other thoughts.

Yard Sale Booth Rental?

Hello, neighbors!

I'm wondering if anyone knows of any upcoming consolidated community yard sales, flea markets, or other bazaars where one can pay a modest fee to sell knickknacks for a single weekend.

We're preparing for a move, but our current living space is NOT in a suitable location for any sort of garage sale. There's no good parking here, and our potential customers might get run over - which really puts a damper on their purchasing power.

If anyone knows of any good community subreddits or Facebook pages or whatever for finding such markets as I mentioned above, I would love to hear about those as well.

Hope everyone is having a good week!
