The Misery We Make Home

Of course Google Photos had to do this. I got this memory today from last year me and my friends went out for a friends birthday. We were happy for a little while, at least. We all knew our lives were getting fucked up in one way or another, but for those few hours, sitting in that restaurant, none of it mattered. We were just happy. Even if it was only for a moment. And I keep wondering what is life? What determines the outcome of the things we do? How do you know whether youre going to be okay? You never really know.Once that little bit of happiness fades, you can sink right back into emptiness, despair, and guilt. You return to the safe space you created for yourself the misery you already know how to live with. It reminds me of something Dostoevsky said "youe worst sin is destroying yourself for no real purpose" Maybe thats what we do as we grow older. We keep betraying ourselves for things that don't even make us happy.I think one of the hardest things we have to accept as adults is that life doesn't necessarily get better. It gets better for moments. Maybe youre with your friends. Maybe youre with your family. Maybe youe with someone you love. For a brief moment, everything feels right. And then, somehow, it comes crashing down again. You return to the emptiness, the restless thoughts, the guilt, the uncertainty. Its hard to hold on to something when you know it won't last. But it's also hard to give up on everything when you have a conscious mind that understands the consequences. So you're left somewhere in between aware enough to know yo're unhappy, but not sure how to escape it. And what even determines whether someone has a “good” life? Is it where you were born? The family you were born into? The opportunities you happened to get? The people you met? The choices you made? Geography alone can determine so much of a person's life before they even have the ability to make a choice for themselves. And then I wonder am I even allowed to feel bad about my own life when there are people in this world experiencing things unimaginably worse? People are being slaughtered, people are starving, people are losing everything. Compared to that, what right do I have to complain about my own emptiness?but suffering isnt really a competition, You can know that you're privileged and still feel lost. You can understand that other people have it worse and still not know how to make your own life feel meaningful.so how long are you supposed to live like this? You try to change. You try to be happy. You convince yourself that maybe this time things will be different. And sometimes they are. Sometimes you genuinely feel alive again. But it seems so temporary. And eventually, the loop begins again. Time doesn't stop for anyone. You keep moving forward, whether you want to or not. And sometimes, without even realizing it, you become a shell of the person you once were. Not because you chose to become that way, but because life slowly takes pieces of you until theres nothing left. Maybe that's why those little moments of happiness matter so much. At the time, they probably seemed insignificant. Just dinner with friends. Just laughing over something stupid. Just another night that would eventually end.but maybe those moments were never insignificant.Maybe that's all we really have. A few hours where everything feels okay. A few people who make the world feel a little less empty. A memory that, a year later, can suddenly remind you that for a little while, you were genuinely happy.but whats the point in being happy just for a while when it never lasts, I dont know the answer maybe nobody does and maybe, in a world where everything eventually ends, those brief moments were never meant to last.Maybe they were the point or Maybe not we will never know.

Chicken and potatao in cheesy alfredo sauce

Its been quite a while since I last posted. I hope everyones doing well. I made this chicken and potato in a cheesy Alfredo sauce today, and it was honestly so good Its a bit high in calories, but the best thing about intermittent fasting is that you can still enjoy meals like this while staying in a calorie deficit.

Cheesy Jalapeno Mutton Pockets

I was wondering what to make for dinner, then I remembered I had some leftover mutton mince. So I decided to come up with a new recipe. Although it tasted great, the pita pockets kept falling apart, so they were kind of messy to eat. 💀💀

Tenancy contract help

ENGLAND, I have a question. Can a landlord ask the DPS to start a deposit claim while the tenancy is still ongoing, or can they only do this once the tenancy has officially ended?

Our tenancy ended last month, and this was confirmed over both the phone and by email. However, yesterday the letting agent called me and said that, under the new law, the tenancy is still ongoing because we didn't give two months' notice. We had a big argument about it yesterday, but today I received an email from the DPS saying:"Your landlord or letting agent at the property below has started the end of tenancy deposit repayment process."Does this mean my tenancy has officially ended, or can the landlord still start the DPS end-of-tenancy process while claiming the tenancy is ongoing?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Tenancy contract help

England. I moved into a property in June 2025 on a 12-month contract, which ended at the end of June 2026.After that, I moved to Cambridge, one of the other tenants moved to Glasgow for a job, and another tenant left the UK.I know about the new tenancy laws in the UK. The agency sent us an email about them in April, but I didn't read it because I assumed that if there were any new laws, they would only apply to new tenancy agreements, not one that I'd already signed. In June, the agency called me to confirm that we would not be extending the tenancy, and I agreed. They also sent an email confirming that we were leaving. Since our fixed-term contract ended at the end of June, I believed everything was settled. After we moved out, they emailed asking whether we had vacated the property, and I confirmed that we had. So, the whole time I believed the tenancy had ended because I had confirmed it both over the phone and by email. Now they've suddenly emailed saying that our tenancy is still in effect and that we have to keep paying rent, otherwise the landlord will take us to court. This doesn't make sense to me. If there was such a major legal change, shouldn't they have clearly informed us instead of just sending a single email? Some of us have multiple email addresses and don't always check the same one. Also, why did they call to confirm that we weren't extending the tenancy and send a leaving confirmation email if the tenancy was supposedly continuing? We all accepted job offers and made plans well in advance based on the understanding that our tenancy was ending. We only stayed until the end because of our contract, and now, even though it's over and we've moved out, they're demanding more rent.

This feels really unfair and unreasonable. Has anyone been in a similar situation or knows where we stand legally? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Jamaican Jerk chicken

Was scrolling through my gallery and came across these photos. This is a throwback to when my Jamaican friend and I made Jamaican jerk chicken from scratch. Obviously we could not smoke it over pimento wood, but apart from that we used every authentic ingredient we could find and spent a lot of time perfecting the recipe. We ended up making a huge batch and it turned out amazing. Everyone who tried it loved it 🤓

Losing motivation to work out at home. Any tips?

I used to go to the gym regularly but I am in a situation where I probably will not be able to go for the next few months. I have already noticed myself gaining a significant amount of weight and it is starting to get to me. I would really appreciate any advice on how to cut body fat while working out at home. I also struggle to stay motivated when exercising at home because it just does not feel the same as going to the gym.If anyone has been through something similar, what helped you stay consistent and what home workouts or routines actually worked for you? Any tips for managing diet, or keeping yourself accountable would be really appreciated.

What’s Your Best Dish?

I m just wondering what y’all’s 10/10 trademark dishes are ,uk the ones that never go wrong no matter how you make them. Mine would be chicken Alfredo. I never rate my own cooking 10/10, but I get the most compliments whenever I make this dish. Everyone seems to love it, and one Italian guy even complimented it I am curious to know what your 10/10 dish is as well.

Air fried chicken

Air frier is so good, Air fried chicken tastes way better than pan fried or oven-baked chicken, and it's healthier too. I don't even marinate it for 30 minutes,15 minutes is enough, then straight into the air fryer. It comes out amazing every single time. Low key, the air fryer is the best cooking gadget I've ever bought.
