[gen 7] moon DTQ

hey guys! finally finished my DTQ for moon, so i wanted to show off my team!

all were hunted without the shiny charm, and all except incineroar were SOS hunts. incineroar was masuda eggs (didn’t reset for a shiny starter, didn’t want to deal with gen 7’s abysmal starter reset rate).

didn’t get exact counts for any, but lurantis was my shortest at about 20 SOS, and mimikyu was my longest at over 600 SOS.

this was super fun and satisfying to do. i highly recommend trying it!!

what is up with bluecow express way?

went up to perisher yesterday, with the intention of skiing over to blue cow terminal. i remember you take the “perisher quad express chair” up to the top of perisher mountain, then it’s a fairly easy ski alongside the top of the mountain to the top of “pleasant valley quad chair”. the trail is called “blue cow express way” and is supposedly a green, groomed run.

instead we had to get off our skis and trek up the mountain, following the occasional snow poles, on an un-groomed uphill trek. was absolutely painful in ski boots, the snow was DEEP. had a bunch of other people doing the same trek with equal confusion.

did we just completely miss the “blue cow express way”? or did that run disappear? i swear i remember it being a flat, easy trail.

PSA for cbr dog owners

(half PSA, half vent) if you are bringing your dog into your local bunnings or pet store, and it goes to the toilet or throws up in said store, please just tell the staff!

- i promise we won’t be mad
- you and your dog will not be banned from the store
- we will not make you clean it up
- we will be very grateful that you told us at all

i slipped on a dog’s mess the other day while stacking shelves. the dog was on a short lead and the mess was absolutely huge, so there’s no way the owner didn’t notice. this is unfortunately extremely common.

that is all, have a good day!

fully swapping substrate?

hello! i own a 27 litre tank with a betta, and this is my first ever tank. it’s about 3 months old and fully cycled. fish is happy and healthy.

my substrate is fluval stratum with a thin layer of aquarium gravel on top. i haven’t been very careful with my fluval while moving things around the tank, and it’s all mostly been squished into mud. this is a problem because:

  1. my plant’s roots starve and die

due to limited oxygen flow (i think?)

  1. every time i move anything slightly, a ton of dust clouds my tank

and it irritates my betta’s gills

  1. my entire tank is constantly covered in fluval dust

i’m also just not all too into the look. i prefer the look of sand only substrates, and want to swap it all for sand. so my question is, how can i do this safely without crashing my cycle?

i have a large bucket i can use as a temporary home for my fish, but i only have one filter and heater. should i move the filter into the temp tank or keep it in the main tank while i switch the substrate? and do i swap it all at once, or in parts? the aquarium store worker mentioned doing it by gravel vacuuming, but i didn’t fully understand what he meant, and he said it was “high risk”. he also said to be very selective with the types of plants i use, which is fine. any sand-only plant recommendations would also be wonderful!

any help is much appreciated, thank you!

feeling discouraged

hi guys! i’m feeling a bit discouraged with my planted tank. this is what it looks like now vs a few weeks ago. i have wisteria, ambulias, and floating dwarf water lettuce planted. it houses a single betta and is 27L. i’ve had it for about 5 weeks.

about a week ago all my wisteria suddenly lost their leaves. a few had mushy stems too so i threw them out. everything is covered in pretty thick brown dusty algae. now even my ambulias are starting to lose leaves (though they are doing much better than the wisteria). the wisteria is much newer so i can chalk up the leaf melt to the tank transition, but even the older plants that have been in there since the start are melting.

water parameters are good. i had the light on for 7 hours a day (with a shade cloth over it) but now i think that needs to be adjusted. ive been adding water fertiliser occasionally but no strict schedule. i removed some water lettuce because i didn’t want it sucking up all the nutrients and blocking out light.

i know i should trust the process with a new tank, but i really hate how it looks rn! it’s all dusty and cloudy and dull. i know my betta doesn’t care but i want his environment to look great.

any help is very appreciated, especially on light duration. thank you!

hi! this is probably a long shot, but i’m looking for indian almond tree leaves to drop into my fish tank. i don’t want to spend $20 to get a pack of 10 shipped. does anyone know where i could find a tree or someone selling leaves for cheap?

leaf pic for reference

hello! i’m a beginner to this hobby and this is my first set up tank. i cycled the tank for a month before adding my betta jambu the day before yesterday. parameters are perfect and he’s having a great time exploring and showing his personality.

the substrate is fluval + black gravel on top. i’ve planted ambulias, wisteria and floating dwarf water lettuce. the wisteria on the left was planted yesterday as i accidentally but my previous ones too short and i wanted more coverage, so that’s why they look a bit shabby. i’ve been adding the occasional liquid fertiliser and everything seems to be thriving.

i was wondering, do i have too much substrate or too large of a hardscape in my tank? the tank itself is a 27 litre (7.13 gal). but with the substrate and hardscape i reckon the actual water is around 20-22 litres (5.2-8-5.81 gal). i know 20 litres is the absolute minimum for bettas, but i want to give jambu the best quality of life. should i remove some substrate or make my hardscape smaller?

any other advice is very much appreciated as im new to all of this. thank you!

this is my new betta! haven’t settled on a name yet, but he’s settled in nicely and is having fun exploring his tank.

when i was buying him, the store worker dropped him on the ground from around hip height. he scooped him back into the bag and the betta was definitely shocked, but recovered just fine.

i noticed that his fins look a little tattered in the middle. is this cause for concern? will they heal? or does this look perfectly natural?

would also love some name suggestions! thank you :)
