New to rigging in Maya. Do I combine the mesh or leave the ears separate?

I’m working on a simple ball with a tail rig, and I was wondering if it’s better to combine the ears with the mesh or keep them separate

I don’t plan on rigging the ears. They’re just there as an accessory

If I combine them do I need to fix the topology? Thanks

What specs do I need if I want to do technical art on my own PC?

I’m studying 3d animation at my university and realized that I really really really love the technical side of all the workflows (specifically rigging)

I’m relatively new to Maya and Houdini so I thought it would be beneficial to do more work outside of class. Our labs have computers, but I’d like to build a new personal PC to work on stuff when I’m at home

My current PC is super outdated, so I was wondering if there were specific specs I should start with. I’m willing to put in the money for a nice build

What can I do to procedurally generate the fish tail?

I’m new to Houdini and I’m trying to procedurally model this guppy’s tail. I haven’t done anything too fancy since I’m not super familiar with the node process yet. I’ve done a good amount of modeling in Maya, but I understand that Houdini is more procedural and I want to experiment with that

This guppy isn’t super detailed cause my professor wanted me to use primitive shapes. I want to challenge myself with some procedural generation within the tail, but I’m not sure where to start

I also know that my nodes/organization SUCK right now. I have a basic understanding but it’s obvious I’m new to all this. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated

Layout ideas for insert

I don’t have a lot of merch for this ita….im trying to work with what I have but it’s tricky coming up with a layout. Any suggestions?

I have a bunch of buttons and some pom poms that I can utilize….should I make more frames for this? Or keep the insert more on the simpler side and only include the rosette and large photo?

How can I stop overthinking life? I want to be the best version of myself

I've been an overthinker my whole life and it's not always the easiest to stop. It fluctuates, but I do think that college has helped me a lot

Now that I'm learning how to live independently I really want to be the best version of myself. I've shown myself that I'm strong and I can overcome my fears which makes me proud of myself. It's not always easy though

As an introvert I hate putting myself out there. I went into college with one friend from high school (I hardly saw him around though), so I had to branch out and meet new people. I now have a group of friends that I adore. I never knew I would be surrounded by such amazing people

Of course that means I've also met a guy that I'm totally into. For the first couple months of having the crush I was trying so hard to hide it. I didn't want him to know, and I did ignore him. I realized that hiding the interest stressed me out a lot. So, I decided to show him that I was interested in getting to know him more. I was relying on him to do all the initiating when I was the one who was into him

I started to initiate more conversations with him and he didn't turn the interactions down. There was a part of me that wanted to tell him how I felt, so I just told him that I really thought he was cool and wanted to talk and get to know him more. He became much warmer after that

These interactions showed me that I'm capable of doing things that scare me. I'm not as weak as I think I am, but I still overthink so much

I compare myself to the beauty standards, I still have trouble speaking up in class, I don't always ask my peers or professors for help when I really need it. I know I'm brave but I'm still scared a lot of the time

I'm scared of rejection, but I totally want to tell the guy I like that I'm into him. Something more than the soft confession I had done. It would lift so much weight off of me. I don't have to worry about beating around the bush anymore. Having an answer would help me focus on me and my life...and if he wants to be part of it then that would be his choice

I don't like my facial features, but I feel like I'm not as ugly as I think I am. I can never see why my younger self felt so self conscious when I look at old photos

I feel like I know what to do, I just don't always have the courage to pursue what I want. I overthink and doubt then don't do anything. I'm proud of my progress, but I still feel like something is holding me back

Does he (probably) know I'm into him now?

If you were a college guy who got a text from a girl saying that she wanted to talk/get to know you more before the semester ended, but she admitted to her mind going blank cause you got cooler every time she talked to you, would you assume she was into you by that point?

College is helping me overcome my OCD

I've struggled with contamination OCD and bad anxiety for most of my life. In elementary and middle school I was terrified of throwing up. In high school I was terrified of getting sick (specifically colds)

I just finished my freshman year of college and I've made so much progress. I really do think the new environment and people helped me face my fears. My friends are aware of my contamination OCD, but I'm not relying on them to reassure me. I'm facing my fears head on which is such a wonderful feeling

My friend has been sick the past week and a half, and I'm coming down with a cold right now. I totally would've tried to track down the cause of my current cold, but I'm just accepting it for what it is. I used to avoid medicine because of the potential nausea side effect, but I took an ibuprofen yesterday. I'm really proud of myself

I feel like a lot of this courage to fight through my OCD came from the guy I'm interested in. I'm not giving him all the credit, but he's seen me in a lot of awkward and kinda lame situations. The vulnerability made me really anxious this semester, but it hasn't scared him away. Being able to recognize my anxiety and then being able to push through has made me so much more confident

I'm excited to conquer contamination OCD. I don't know if it'll ever go away fully, but it's under control now and I'm so happy with my progress
