Humidifier on @ 85%, off @ 95°, FAE fans every 10 minutes for 1 minute. (I was using the foil to bounce humidity around on the shelf for longer)

Spent a day learning how to roast coffee beans and got some leftover unroasted beans. Boiled & sterilized some, with a little bit of rye, and had enough for 6 jars inoculated with the very last CCs of various cultures. Only two jars had activity *at all*. This jar got Bear's Head (*Hericium Americanum*) and is one of the two. (Last Pic is the Bear's Head doing normal Bear's Head things [not the same batch])

Conditions were dry so I adjusted; but these fruit don't want to hydrate their caps. Do I consider them aborts and pluck em asap? Or should I leave the microclimate undisturbed and just let them get weird?

First time with Hericium... Was purchased as Bolles Bear Head, but I can't figure out what's going on here. I didn't know the teeth could probe around like squid tentacles. Is something wrong with the conditions?

Context is that I told a newbie not to force the colony into "substrate colonization" because fruiting is signalled the moment you open the spawn jar, and that substrate is for providing the microclimate. Then this commenter chimed in with this "they cannot drink, must eat substrate"
