Smells strongly of mushrooms, and some mycelium peeled from the bag in a matting of rubbery stroma. I'm assuming it's not mold... what exactly is it? The bag was near my tent... Will it disturb my gourmet varieties?

Getting it out was a bit of a struggle; I've never had an ochra fruit with such an odd truffle at the very bottom! Fairly certain that "pit" is a grain, plucking it out even left a whole crater that bruised. (Jar is colonized, this fruit just started around one single grain? 🤷)

I'm in the middle of making my bonsai corner more presentable, but I thought you guys would like to see how I do a very simple setup before I start complicating it.

I've found this to be much more successful for Ochras than cubes, but I think it can work for more varieties. Use slightly alkaline substrate when doing the casing later, then all you need to do is put the bonsai in a large vase under a mildly warm lamp. Place the vase in a way that there are 1 or 2 small gaps for gas exchange.

And that's it! It should last *months*. First flushes are wild but it slows down to just a few fruits per watering. I use distilled water, and only add about a tablespoon or two at a time. I also occasionally use peroxide instead of water for misting for the vase walls if it's super dry. It provides a little bit of oxygen, but it's mostly for the humidity and keeping the glass clean.

Last week I posted about this guy just branching and branching. Moved it up a shelf and made both the FAE and humidifier fans gentler; it seems to be working!

Should I "prune" the brown branch or just wait until harvest?

This flush keeps reaching and reaching, and I've had to put it on a platform because now it's too heavy to hold itself up.

Does this have the slightly pink hue that indicates too much water? Will it start making teeth if I increase FAE again?

Humidifier on @ 85%, off @ 95°, FAE fans every 10 minutes for 1 minute. (I was using the foil to bounce humidity around on the shelf for longer)

Spent a day learning how to roast coffee beans and got some leftover unroasted beans. Boiled & sterilized some, with a little bit of rye, and had enough for 6 jars inoculated with the very last CCs of various cultures. Only two jars had activity *at all*. This jar got Bear's Head (*Hericium Americanum*) and is one of the two. (Last Pic is the Bear's Head doing normal Bear's Head things [not the same batch])

always trippy to see how ochra likes to get vertical when hyphal knotting while cube likes to do it laterally, mostly hiding just under the surface

Conditions were dry so I adjusted; but these fruit don't want to hydrate their caps. Do I consider them aborts and pluck em asap? Or should I leave the microclimate undisturbed and just let them get weird?

First time with Hericium... Was purchased as Bolles Bear Head, but I can't figure out what's going on here. I didn't know the teeth could probe around like squid tentacles. Is something wrong with the conditions?
