What’s your experience with your front door being in a shared indoor hallway?

I toured a new luxury apartment under construction. I was shocked that it looked and felt just like a hotel (see sample picture). I started to wonder if a hallway like this feels less private, causes more bug infestations, and smells.

Right now my front door is outside and directly across from 1 neighbor and we share a stairwell. I’d imagine a front door being inside would mean people can hear people from your kitchen as they walk past your front door, and smells stick around as people open and close their door daily with no air circulation. Is this an accurate assessment? But maybe the doors are soundproof and sealed well.

They just added it a couple weeks ago now I can’t find it. You could bookmark lives without following the creator.

I just toured a luxury apartment for the first time. I don't know how I feel.

I have only toured 2 apartments in my entire life. My current apartment building which is extremely outdated and recently got infested with roaches, and the luxury apartment under construction that I just toured today. There are features about my apartment that I CAN'T STAND, but I'm so used to them that it doesn't even matter (besides the roaches). This apartment FEELS like a HOME.

The brand-new luxury apartment will be $100-200 cheaper than my current apartment. However, I didn't realize luxury apartments don't feel like a home; they look and feel like a hotel. The actual unit was nice with super tall ceilings but the second you walk outside the unit there's an indoor "mud room" which looks like an indoor hotel hallway. The layout was so confusing. I would be on floor 1 but there is a unit below me that's underground and 2 more units above me. I can purchase a solo garage across from my apartment but to reach my apartment I need to use an elevator? lol.

I appreciate the unique amenities, but I will probably never use them, and they were a laughable selling point. Beyond the standard pool and gym (which were both incredible, I admit) ... a podcast room, karaoke room, and a tv room that plays sports all day long? Don't get me wrong, it's x1000 more impressive than my current situation but when the complex fills up with tenants there will never be peace or privacy. Also, despite being slightly larger, I would have to get rid of multiple items in order to fit all my belongings. Two dressers, washer, and dryer. There is not outdoor storage on the balcony so I may also have to get rid of 1 my bikes and belongings in my storage closet.

Face scan required to self tour an apartment.

I signed up to tour a new apartment complex built near my job and then saw they needed a picture of my id… okay. Then they want a face scan and 3rd party company keeps your biometric data in the system to make sure you don’t try to change your identity in the future. I’m so exhausted from this face scan shit.

Onfido, acting as a service provider to the company that owns or operates the website or app that you are using or is providing the services
you wish to access (“Company”):

• compares facial scan data extracted from your photo in your identity document that you provide to us to the facial scan data
extracted from the selfie photo or video that you upload, in order to help verify your identity (“Verification”),
• compares facial scan data from the image you upload when you first enroll to the facial scan data provided when you authenticate
yourself as an authorised user of the Company’s services (“Authentication”),
• may also use your information, including your facial scan data, to detect and prevent fraud, to determine whether Onfido has
previously verified a user’s identity on behalf of the Company, and to improve and develop our services. However, if you upload a photo or video from within Illinois or New York, Onfido will not use any facial scan data derived therefrom for the purpose of
improving and developing our services.

CAD knowledge required

I notice a lot of technical writing positions in my area require CAD experience. If your role requires CAD, did you land the job without prior knowledge?

Disappointed in my “raise”

I was told myself and 30 others were getting promoted on top of employee review increases. My employee review was 3% aka 75 cents/hr. I thought I was getting a new job title and additional pay increase on top of that 75 cents. My new paycheck says otherwise.

I was making plans to potentially move apartments but I’ll be stuck where I’m at with my shitty pay and yearly 75 cent raise which gets immediately eaten up by increasing rent payments and new apartment fees.

I’m so over this bullshit. 2-4 more years of 75 cent raises and I’ll finally make what my coworkers have been making.

What is the longest you have worked at a company?

I joined a company at 22, left at 24, and involuntarily came back at 26 for a combined total of 6 years and counting. Upon turning 30 I am craving a change in life. I like my job despite the awful pay and questionable management. I have spent my entire 20s here and I think it’s bad that all of my full-time work experience resides from these 2 mediocre companies.

I’m curious to see how often zillenials job hop or if they’re staying put like I am.

P.s. by “involuntarily came back” I mean that I switched to a competitor down the street who got bought out by the company I left 2 years prior. They rehired me in the process lol. So it really feels like I’ve been working here for 8 years.

Salary “progress”: 30M, No Degree, Pharmaceutical Industry

I’m pretty much a for-lifer until I obtain a professional education. I won’t pass most employer’s ATS without one. I’m working on my associates and want to exit the pharmaceutical industry.

As you can tell I’m role hopper. I’m thankful my company has allowed me to gain experience in almost every department we have. I am generally favored for the internal knowledge that I have which has granted me almost every internal position I’ve applied for. I’ve finally found a position that fulfills me, however, the pay is way below the national and state level and I would like to contribute more to my savings and retirement. I’ve never negotiated my pay because I’m a dumbass and I’ve always been the least paid in my department(s).

Don’t be like me. 👍

Negotiate and go to school!

Do you press your brakes when road texture changes?

One of my biggest pet peeves is driving home from work on the highway and traffic slows because everyone momentarily taps their brakes when approaching a 100 ft section of a dark asphalt patch. At worst, the patch is slightly louder to drive over but it's not worth slowing down for. It doesn't kick up rocks, and it doesn't make your car bump around--and I drive a small hatchback. Why is everyone so scared of road texture change? I was taught to never touch your brakes on the highway unless traffic is coming to a stop. It's crazy seeing a slowdown happen in real time because a brake tapper caused a domino effect of brake taps for everyone behind them.

DAE have recurring nightmares about getting shot in the head?

About once a month I have dream that chaotically ends with me getting shot in the head. It doesn’t feel good knowing how realistic this scenario is in America. I don’t think about this topic before bed so I don’t know why it keeps appearing.

A juror has made history

Cirie has cast a vote for the winner of the season more than any player worldwide.

Panama - Aras

Micronesia - Parvati

Game Changers - Sarah

Au vs the World - Parvati

50 - Aubry

I wonder if they were all destined to win or if Cirie did what she does best and swayed the jury in their favor?

Jeff to make a special entrance at the reunion

Despite what he said literally last week, “As for special entrances and the vote urn, those were always fun traditions. I loved them! But they do take time out of the show, and this finale is packed, so we made the decision to use that time where it matters most, with the players and the story of the season!”

The official Survivor CBS website has sent an email to fans hinting a special entrance.

I lie about my age to avoid judgement

I felt this is the safest place to post because we all fear judgement from others. Other subreddits think it's weird to lie about your age, "What is there to be ashamed of?"

I've always come across more youthful than my age. To some it's how I look to others it's my mannerisms. When people make such a dramatic reaction to my age it makes me feel awful. Most people would take it as a compliment, but I see it as them saying there's something wrong with me or that I'm immature looking or acting for my age. Around 28 I started to say that I'm "20-something" and leave it at that.

Today I turned 30 and I can't bring myself to say it without cringing. I just know people will make it an even bigger deal than being in my late 20s. You'd think by thirty I could be able to own it and not care but people are so rude without realizing it and us folks with social anxiety are on the sensitive side.

I remember when I was 25 a 50-something-year-old janitor at my job found out my age and went "Oh my God you're old! I thought you were some kid straight out of high school." and she started to treat me differently after that. I can't stand when people adjust their behavior around me after finding out my age. I've never switched up how I talk to people or treat them for their age outside of slang words that I know certain groups may not understand.

Digital History EDU is shutting down May 31st

This website collected primary historical sources, but the US government department DOGE (aka Elon Musk) gutted the National Endowment for the Humanities which supported this website.

My professor used this website in my college US History course last year. It would be amazing if someone could archive some of these sources, particularly sources they want erased forever, such as slavery sections. It looks like some sources were removed already, so it may be too late. I'm aware some of these sources can be found elsewhere, but some are rarer than others.
