What do you do with a broken Addiesdive, and some spare Duro parts?

I guess you make a 40mm Duro Pilot πŸ™‚

Proxima px1697 red/pt5000

Wasn't planning to buy a Proxima but this one came up 2nd hand in excellent condition.

Dswatch lume block dial build

I really like these lume block dials and skeleton hands.

Tbh the lume on these black versions might as well not be there, but the overall look is pretty neat πŸ™‚

I'd prefer a chapter ring without the minute markers but couldn't find one that matched the dial colour.. was an absolute mission to get all the marks to line up!

Duro Modding: Putting the hands back on

Fitting the hands back on a watch is fiddly work, especially the seconds hand as they're so fragile. Rather than using tweezers to place the hand, have you got some Rodico gum?

I use a lump of Rodico pulled into a claw shape that I can hold between my fingers.

Pick up the seconds hand by dabbing the rodico down onto the pointer end of the hand so that it's sitting horizontally when my hand is in a position that I can brace against the movement pad with my ring finger.. photo:

https://preview.redd.it/xvxp38e2sxgh1.jpg?width=5934&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3cfc6630d76d245f7ebc2191bbf384fa662e7bb3

I find then if I can get my eyeline down level with the watch dial looking across it, a bit lower than where this photo was taken from, it's easier to drop the hand onto the pinion and press it down with a hand pusher.

The Rodico has enough tack to hold the hand while you get it lined up, but will pull off the hand easily when you've got it in place with a lot less chance of damaging the hand or the dial than if you're holding it with tweezers.

Works for hour & minute hands as well, but with them I tend to find it's more helpful to line them up while looking straight down from above so you can make sure you get the timing alignment right.

Namoki 932 case- finally got the crystal level

I've been messing around with this case for nearly a year, I could never get the crystal to press in level.

Last week I bought some I shaped 31.5mm crystal gaskets for another build and figured I'd try a spare one in this case.. and it worked!

I'm so happy as I really like the TV case shape 😁

Will have to decide on a dial & hands to go in as this is a scrap parts test set at the moment.. would welcome suggestions for dials and hands to use.

What model does this come from?

I picked this dial up the other day, it's 29.5mm square, sunburst silver with silver markers.. feels quite old.

Does anyone know what model it comes from? Was there an automatic version of the Seville?

[Big Zero.. maybe?] What have I bought?

At a flea market for Β£25..

I've never seen a blue one outside of the much later automatics.. thought it looks cool so went for it

Just got it home and opened it up.. 2609b movement not the HA version.

I thought the dial looked pretty correct though, y'know apart from being.. blue.. πŸ˜‚

I'm also wearing a Caravelle today

N7 (1977) Caravelle 'Set-o-matic dual day" on an old stock Maruman bracelet of about the same age.

A little care-worn but still runs really well πŸ™‚

What watch did I buy in the sale?

Β£26 with a sale coupon. Actually not the absolute cheapest watch I've bought but very close!

Shanghai 7120, red v2 version has the glass case back & skeletonised main bridge.. I think it looks incredible πŸ™‚

1977 Caravelle LED

Just picked this up, seems to be running quite nicely.

Can anyone advise on what would be safe to use on the crystal to try to take some of the scuffs and scratches out without damaging it or losing the wording?

Metal Trenttech kit build: Mellow Yellow

CasioOak mod using one of /u/Ptr3nt13 's metal mod case kits

Build was really easy, hardest part was remembering where I'd put my crystal press to salvage the chapter ring out of my 2100.

The kit is really high quality, very nicely built and really well packaged as well.

No complaints but If I had to criticise, there's maybe two things I'd pick up on:

  1. Slot-headed screws for the caseback: Ideally I'd want these to be phillips / cross-headed screws - totally not an issue for me to build the kit, but I'm always wary when messing with slot-heads as it's really easy to slip off of them.

  2. I found it took a couple of tries to get the movement vertically aligned in the case. Everything fastens together really well and it's held securely by the caseback, but I wonder if there's a way to create a key slot between the inside of the case barrel, and the outside of the movement spacer that'd ensure it was lined up right?

Other than that, I'm really pleased with this kit. It's massively better than the metal clamshell mods.

Now I have a decision to make, stick with this yellow build that's using a 2100 I really wasn't wearing, or swap in the 2100HD lume dial model that I've just bought?

Help with re-sizing an accutron bracelet..

Can anyone help me work out how to dismantle the links on this Bulova bracelet?

It looks like there's two links here that should be removable. I was expecting a split pin, or pin and collar setup , but running a standard pin screw in it doesn't hit anything for about 3mm in either side..

There's something in the middle of the link, but I don't want to get too physical with it until I know how it works!

The holes are about 1.2mm wide, there doesn't appear to be any direction markings on the links though.

Updated Sniper / Sniper XL?

I've had a Sniper dialled 2409 Amphibia sat in a drawer for a year or so, missing a seconds hand but mainly retired due to the springbar holes in the lugs blowing out.

But, I just picked up an unused 42mm 710 case off eBay, decided to see if it'd fit.. turns out it does, and with the hand-winder caseback on from the 2409 case, it's only 0.2mm thicker than it was stock.

Temporarily added a Komandirskie seconds hand to get it working.. I think it looks ok but I'll find it a red hand at some point =)

Accutron year / movement question (218/219)

For a date model Accutron that has "N7" (1977) on the caseback, is it likely that it's a 219 movement rather than a 218?

I'm tempted to buy it because it's a '77 specifically, but I'm not sure if Bulova were selling 218s that late, and I don't really know anything about the 219 specifically.. whether it's as good as the 218?

mtp-1244 mod

https://preview.redd.it/hpx3kofcso0h1.jpg?width=2268&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=cb1358c3df340419486955e80be3b2f64401d17d

Won an auction for a damaged mtp-1244 at Β£11 with no crown, when it arrived the movement had rusted solid from being open to the elements.

Luckily the Duro uses the same Miyota 2115, so this is thedial & hands from the 1244 transplanted onto a spare Duro movement, with an aftermarket AliEx mdv106 case.. technically the only genuine duro parts are the bezel insert, the crown, the caseback, and the movement spacer!

Not sure what bezel insert would match up to this.. tempted by a white background insert, or a steel one?
