Pipeline Company Killed Gas Now Water Heater Won’t Light

They’re replacing gas pipelines on our street and were pressure testing it. When they did so, they took our gas meter entirely apart. I asked before they started if I needed to do anything with our appliances. The only gas items are our furnaces and water heater. They said no.

I tested the furnace before he left and it worked but the water heater pilot light will not spark. I understand this could simply be a part that’s failed and I’m not blaming the company, just providing context.

The igniter switch actually shocked the guy when he took the insulation off to check the connection so I’m assuming the issue is in the piezo igniter inside the unit.

How DIY is this? I do a lot around the house but I’ve never jacked with anything gas related.

::EDIT::

Got it lit! I pulled the panel with the view window off which in and of itself was a real pain in the ass, I reckon they want you to not do that. But from there I was able to finally lay eyes on the gas and spark points and got it lit with a grill lighter.

Thank you, kind people of r/homeimprovement!

Black Caps

(I’m just learning about carburetor maintenance, forgive my ignorance) 2007 Triumph America. Why are these caps on these ports? Should they always be on there?

How to Remove for Replacement?

I’m sort of flying blind as I haven’t found a specific look at this carburetor online to know what the pieces are without taking them out but I’m assuming this piece I received in my rebuild kit is this one circled. However, I don’t know how to go about removing it since it’s essentially flush with a slight edge.

07 Triumph America Carb

Howdy. So, this America sat in a dilapidated shed for a few years with fuel in the tank. I brought it to my garage a couple years ago and siphoned the tank but that’s as far as I got because I don’t know my ass from a hole in the ground with bikes. But I picked up an ultrasonic cleaner, determined to clean the carb and see if I can get the bike going, and found this lovely verdant hue inside.

Am I still in cleaning territory or will I need to replace pieces?

Viarco Spring Pencil Caps

I just picked up a package of these via The Gentleman Stationer website. They’re not rigid and quite bendable, however, they feel stable and sturdy on my pencils and I think they’ll provide plenty enough protection while carrying around in my field journal. Time will tell!

To Use or Not to Use (the Eraser)

I do and don’t, I’m not sure why I choose to for certain pencils and don’t for others. What say you?

The Blue Belle ‘92 F150 Extended Cab

Father bought it brand new off-the-lot with 12 miles on it. It’s been parked since ‘21 due to some mechanical issues. I’d like to dig into and figure out how to get her mobile again.

Inherited Triumphs

Hi all, my FIL passed away and these were left in his decaying shop. We had the garage space to rescue them so a friend of his with a trailer helped transport them to our place.

I wasn’t raised around bikes and have extremely modest mechanical knowledge (I’ve done minor front end repairs like cv axles/suspension repairs on our vehicles). A kind member of a Triumph forum gifted me the complete shop service manual for the America to try and get it running as it was the most recent to run in ‘18 or ‘19.

Just here to say hello and get to learning on how to get the America, and hopefully the rest, in shape some day.
