Anyone else falling out of love?

I have been an Emerald for years and support the brand wholeheartedly! But recently I have come to realize that I don’t enjoy many of the products as much as I used to. I just decluttered my skin tints because I finally accepted they don’t work for me. I let the mascara dry up. I don’t use the pinpoint concealer anymore, and I prefer other matte lip formulas over the true velvets… My signature lip is still one of the rouge experiences, but although at some point most of my makeup was Lisa Eldridge that has changed over the past year. I wonder if it’s just me, or if the industry innovations are outpacing LE.

Rant about Mead misrepresented in textbooks

It peeves me to no end how many book authors and esteemed sociologists get the "I" and the "me" wrong and pass that on to students. The "I" as spontaneous and impulsive, "me" as the rational and socialized self — that's Freud's Id and Ego, not Mead.

Mead's subject and object dichotomy is different and is very much what distinguishes Mead's theory from Cooley's. The "me" never acts directly, so describing it as "the preppy adult who always follows the rules" as opposed to the I that is "impulsive and creative" is just wrong.

I think these two passages are relevant:

"The differences in our memory presentations of the "I" and the "me" are those of the memory images of the initiated social conduct and those of the sensory responses thereto."

"The "I" of introspection is the self which enters into social relations with other selves. It is not the "I" that is implied in the fact that one presents himself as a "me." And the "me" of introspection is the same "me" that is the object of the social conduct of others."

Thank you for coming to my TedTalk as I have no one in real life who cares. Rant over (but I could do a similar one for Goffman's backstage).

Alexandra Anele appreciation post

Her latest video reminded me how she ticks every box for me. She’s talented, pleasant to watch, and she has range!! I wear boring makeup on the daily, but I love seeing artistry and skill. I’m getting bored with one-note makeup artists where all makeup looks are the same.

Unboxing of 08/24 morning box and upsell

$150 seemed like a great deal at the time but now I’m not sure. The unnamed Jo Malone was Mimosa and Cardamom

Found my HG mascara!

This is the Hourglass Unlocked Instant Extensions mascara in Espresso. I do have long lashes, but they’re light, straight-ish, and not too voluminous. I also have oily skin so a lot of mascaras flake off or give me raccoon eyes. I have sworn off black mascaras so I really appreciate that this comes in brown

other products on my face are in the comments.

FGF Divi Air dry cream

I have thin and limp hair that insists on being wavy. I’m quite pleased with the Divi air dry cream and will likely repurchase. the photo may not look very impressive, but this is my hair air dried, with no other texture product in. Better than what Ouai did for me!

Does this application look weird?

I don’t like the way my lips look when they’re fully painted inside the contour and all the way in the corner. That drags my mouth down. However, I’ve been wondering if the naked corners look weird. I know this can be a technique in and of itself own, but I’m not necessarily going for a Betty Boop aesthetic. Just wondering if this kind of application looks unfinished and if you have any advice.

Those of you who are genuinely happy, what is your life like?

What parts of your life make it a happy one? Are you married? Do you have kids? Do you have a job? Are you on anti-depressants? Are you filthy rich? Did you move to a different country? Do you live in the woods with a pack of dogs?

Not looking for any recipe. I’m just curious to hear from those who are truly happy.

That inner corner highlight? Help!

There’s nothing like it on the Violette_FR website that I could find but I love this matte iridescence. Any suggestions for what can recreate this effect? It’s fine if the color is other than pink but I would prefer a warm shade.

Out of 51 students 15 didn’t bother to submit. Other 23 admitted they used AI and got their zeroes. I only had 13 essays. For 51 students.
