Favorite music decade

I am always at a loss to pick my favorite decade for music. I was born in 1953, and really got into music in the mid 60s, and by the mid 70s, I was busy "adulting", getting married, buying a house, starting a family. If I have to pick a 10 year time frame, it would be 1965 to 1975. That's my music decade!

Asian slurs

Earlier today, I was on a local online forum, when someone posted the term "Jap", referring to Japanese cars. I immediately challenged his use of that term, stating it was an offensive racial slur. He basically laughed at me. I received some support from other posters, but not overwhelmingly.

Full disclosure, I am a Caucasian Canadian man married to a Canadian born, but ethnically Japanese woman. So, was I overly sensitive in my reaction to the term "Jap"?

I am interested in the thoughts of others.

My wonderful life partner told me she doesn't like it, but it's not that big of a deal to her and I should let it go .... but that is who she is, never wanting to "make trouble" about anything.

1963 Ford F-100 Uni-body (predates the Ranger name)

When I grew up on the farm in the 1960s, we had a Ford pickup just like the one in these photos. It had a 292 V-8, lots of power, and a 3-on-the-tree. But the unique feature was the uni-body construction, a fairly rare model, which gave it a sleek sporty style. I learned to drive on this truck and went on my first date with this truck, lots of nostalgia for this old beauty.

What were the first movies you recall seeing in a theater as a child?

My parents would take me to movies when I was a youngster, I guess my older sister didn't care to babysit me lol.

The earliest movies I have any recollection of were:

\- Ben Hur (1959) with Charlton Heston

\- The Alamo (1960) with John Wayne

\- El Cid (1961) with Sophia Loren

\- 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea, Kirk Douglas

Staying at Villa Renaissance??

After reading hundreds of reviews on various properties, my wife and I feel that VR would suit us best for a week to 10 days stay. (Understated luxury, but quiet and relaxed).

Our only concern is no restaurant on site.

Is this going to be an issue? We have no problem with a 10 or 15 minute walk or using taxis or Uber. Is there a decent selection of restaurants nearby? I believe the grocery market is only a short walk as well?

I welcome any comments from those familiar with that portion of Grace Bay. Thank you.

Which 1960s decade car models did you own?

Similar to the thread in the 70s sub, let's talk about cars, trucks, motorcycles, etc!

My vehicles from the 1960s decade:

- 1967 Suzuki 80 cc motorbike, purchased new with my own money from the sale of my 4-H steer, I was 14 and rode this bike everywhere.

- 1963 Ford F-100 uni-body pick-up, 292 V-8 and 3 on the tree, my dad's pick-up but the vehicle that I learned to drive first.

- 1968 Ford F-100 Ranger, 360 V8, auto trans., a big step up from the 1963, it even had a radio, I did lots of cruising with this truck, to my parent's chagrin.

- 1963 Buick LeSabre, 4 door hardtop, 405 V-8 engine, gifted to me by my parents when I graduated high school in 1971.

I named this car the "Queen Mary" as she was a boat!

- 1965 Chevelle Malibu 4 door, 6 cylinder, 3 on the tree, the first car that I bought with my own money.

What 1970s model cars did you own?

For my wife and I, we had the following 1970s vehicles:

- 1970 Chev pickup truck

- 1973 Olds Cutlass

- 1975 Chev Caprice

- 1978 Mercury Zephyr

I do not have fond memories of any of these vehicles, other than the Cutlass had lots of pep, and the Caprice was great for towing our travel trailer. Fun times!

How's life in Zaporizhia these days?

In 2013, we visited this area, including Zaporizhia, Dnipro, Tokmak, Melitopol.

What is the war situation? I believe that Melitopol and Tokmak are now controlled by the Russian army? Is there active fighting? What about drone attacks on the city?

When we were there in 2013, most people were speaking Russian, but I understand that has changed?

Thanks for any updates.

My wife and I tend to drink wine every evening with dinner, at home, just the 2 of us. We probably average about 6 to 7 ounces each per day. We are 73M and 71F. We find it enhances our daily living experience and makes dinner more enjoyable. We have no major health issues, just the usual stuff for seniors.

I've been reading recent health and nutrition articles that strongly discourage daily consumption of alcohol, especially for seniors. (Same for caffeine which we also really enjoy!)

Simply interested in thoughts from members of this group ....
