How I graduated with 2 job offers without being cracked at coding

I am not here to flex AT ALL. I actually want to help anyone I can out. I received 2 job offers out of college, and was actually rejected from other roles at the same company. They came back for round two. I was able to help my friend get a job as well with literally no internships under her belt and an average gpa and limited CS knowledge.

The thing is, this job market is actually garbage, we all know this. It’s not what you know anymore, it’s who you know. So instead of leveling up my application knowledge, I put it all into personality.

I joined the CS professional club at my school and attended every networking event they hosted. Also joined mentorship programs for tech students. I took every offer to meet more people and spoke to EVERYONE even if they didn’t have anything for me.

I also when to job fairs. I know, I know. It’s literally impossible to get one, however I got 2 jobs from them. One of them turned into a full time offer. The other role I got from the same professional club I joined.

Another thing I did was stop going for Coding based roles like SWE and applied to tech adjacent roles like Tech PMs, BA, DA, DM, etc. Why? Because the tech questions are easy to answer so majority of my interviews would be based on personality.

That goes into my second point. Fake that shit until you make it. You smile, dress nice, smell good, make jokes, nod your head to everything they said, ask questions revolving what they said and their personal opinion. Match the interviewer’s behavior. Tired but intelligent interviewers = ask intelligent and profound questions revolving their work. Let them know you understand their role and make they feel special. People love to talk about themselves. People who rush through the content because they are so high level and don’t know how to explain well = slow them down and ask about their personal feelings and experiences in the role. What do they think you should do. You get my point.

I learned very early I would never be as good as others to get a heavy coding job, so I picked roles that I could actually get with my strengths.

TLDR: Job Market is garbage. It’s who you know not what you know. Understand your strengths and weaknesses and pick roles that complement that, if you hate the role, you can always pivot. It is way easier to get a job while having one than when you are unemployed.

The hygiene war is so annoying and makes me feel dirty af

I am so tired of the hygiene wars and I wish people would be honest about women’s health and personal preferences. Everyone just loves to judge everyone and it’s so annoying. People can shower at anytime, who cares. As long as they are clean and smell good who cares. You can shower 3 times a day or 3 times a week, I don’t care as long as you are healthy, clean, and smell good.

Like why are we competing and shaming women!! This rant started because I saw a woman saying signs that make her think a person is musty and she started saying “morning showers” and “going commando in leggings”. Listen, idgaf what you do, as long as it works for you. It’s like some people can’t grasp that women’s bodies are not all the same! Your PH levels might not the same as mine.

For example, I go commando in leggings. It hides panty lines and gives me more opportunities to “breathe”. It works for me and I take extra steps to stay fresh when it’s not cotton. No, not every woman gets a lot of discharge and not all of them bleach clothes(this has actually never happened to me that I know of and I always thought it was a lie 😭). I don’t get “sudden” periods, I religiously track my cycle and it’s like 97% accurate. Also no, it’s doesn’t cause yeast infections or other issues in everyone!! Like I’m happy people are informing other women how to stay healthy, but the shaming has to stop.

And lastly, WE ALL STINK SOMETIMES, DOESNT MATTER WHAT WE DO!!! It’s ok, it happens sometimes, we are humans. Sometimes you stink on your period so bad and you can’t completely control it, it’s ok! It’s hot as balls outside and some of us have to walk a lot in our day. I do my best to stay fresh, but sometimes you’re not going to smell the best and THATS OK. It’s normal. Stop listening to people on the internet who are shaming you into “being cleaner”. If you are not having medical issues, you are happy with your arrangement, don’t have BO, do what you want. ❤️ Just let us live bro.

Does your adhd make you feel less human?

Ever since I was a kid, I always knew I was different from all the other kids. I never understood why, but it was apparent to me and others. I did my best to hide it as best as possible but it never worked. I started being told how weird my mannerisms are, my hobbies, speech, etc. I then started to force myself to act more “human” or “normal”, I don’t know. I feel like my feelings and emotions don’t match others or what it’s supposed to be and I don’t know if it’s ADHD or something else entirely.

I’m treated very differently from family members that have ADHD too, even though I copy their mannerisms as best as I can. I started learning more about “normal” things women like and dressing like them as well. I can’t help my hyperactivity and lack of shutting up, but I do my best to make it look cute and adorable. However, it’s like they know I’m different and I don’t know what I’m doing wrong.

Does anyone else have these experiences? Should I talk to someone about it or is this just the average ADHD experience?

I hate being a woman with ADHD

I hate being a woman with adhd, it’s like we always get told it’s something else when it’s clearly ADHD. When I was younger I had all of the signs, hyperactivity to the max. Talk all the time, impulsively say stuff, couldn’t sit in my seat. Got bored of things super quickly, etc, but instead of being diagnosed with it, I got diagnosed with bipolar for 5 years after a short stay in a psych ward after my depression got the best of me. They put me on a mood stabilizer and a antipsychotic. The mood stabilizer did really help with my treatment resistant depression (with years of therapy), but the antipsychotic caused nothing but issues.

I finally got a test about a year ago, tests said severe, and I got off the antipsychotic and got on a stimulant and doing better. However, doctors refuse to let go off the bipolar diagnosis. They sometimes refuse to give me certain treatments because of it, even though I calmly explain to me that I was misdiagnosed. It makes me so upset that this misdiagnosis will follow me forever. They think I’m denying it, and refuse to see facts. However, men probably wouldn’t experience this. It’s harder for men to be diagnosed with bipolar than women.

I’m just so frustrated. I am literally a walking billboard for ADHD to clinicians and they still bring up the diagnosis. Then have the audacity to ask “Why do you care so much about the label”? I just want to be free.

I have an ADHD diagnosis, but exhibit some Autistic traits as well. How do I go about this situation correctly?

Hey everyone, I am kinda newly diagnosed with ADHD (about 9 months) after being misdiagnosed for years with Bipolar 2 and MDD. I am very happy that I finally have an answer for a lot of the struggles I’ve experienced in my life. Since then, I have been researching ADHD more, doing my best to understand my symptoms and how to help myself more. While researching, I have seen a lot of my symptoms that relate to Autism heavily, especially when I was younger that I’ve “outgrown”. I still experience some today, but a “tamer or easier to ignore/hide” version.

As I continue to do research, more symptoms I’m experiencing are seen as autistic symptoms as well. I know Autism and ADHD share symptoms a lot, so I could just have ADHD with a lot of shared Autistic symptoms/traits, but I don’t know if I should ignore it. The reason why I waited so long for my ADHD diagnosis was because I did well in school, had friends, and looked “normal” even though I was suffering so much internally. I don’t want to ignore my problems again just because I’m coping well enough.

Should I follow this thought process through? Is there any resources I should look at before I speak with a professional? I don’t want to wait a professional’s time over minimal symptoms.

Bump at injection site 4 days later

Hey everyone, I did a TB test for my job last week Tuesday and when I went for the check 48 hours later my skin was still completely smooth. To the point that the nurse couldn’t even find my injection site at all, had to feel up my arm and found nothing. Fast forward to today, I woke up with a bump on my arm at the injection site. I don’t know if it was there yesterday, but I definitely didn’t notice anything before. It looks like a mosquito bite, not a hard bump and it has a few little bumps on it as well. Should I go to a clinic to check it out or is it fine because it’s been over 48-72 hours? I visit hospitals very often for work and don’t want to cause issues if I’m sick. Please let me know if I should get checked out.

Hookup Culture isn’t inherently bad, you just don’t like participating

So many times on social media, I hear people talk about hookup culture/casual sex is horrible and it harmful to women. It uplifts celibacy and how women should only sleep with people they are in love with. While that’s not bad, I feel like it’s just repackaged purity culture for the new generation. I’m not saying everyone has to have casual sex, but I don’t think it should be demonized, especially not for women.

If a woman is able to stay detached emotionally, have fun, and stay safe, I think she should be allowed to be happy to have sex. Yes, having sex with someone you love and in a committed relationship with is awesome, but it doesn’t mean casual sex is bad. I just feel like conservatism is just being repackaged as female empowerment.

How to tell if it’s Bipolar & ADHD or ADHD & Depression

I tried asking this before, but it got flagged because my account was super young. Hopefully it works this time 😭 I made a throwaway account for privacy, my family knows about my main account.

So, I have a dilemma. I have been diagnosed with bipolar 2 for a few years but I honestly never believed it. It just didn’t make sense, especially because I never really experienced hypomania. Whenever I search it up, I kind of feel like I experience some of the symptoms all the time, like impulsivity and fast talking.

Recently I have been diagnosed with ADHD and I feel so amazing, like I can overcome so much. It answers so many of my problems. I take stimulants and have no issues that doctors warn about (bipolar people are strongly advised to stay away).

Because of this I feel like I actually have ADHD and depression. I have been depressed for a very long time and have been always super impulsive, reactive, and been a lot of the symptoms typical of bipolar disorder.

Now that I’m off of antipsychotics and on stimulant medication, I’m doubting my diagnosis more and more. The only thing that makes me think I have it is that my mood stabilizer helps with my depression significantly. I still had to go through major therapy for years, but it became easier.

Is there a way to know for certain what I have? I am meeting with a completely new doctor and I want to be heard without the bipolar label. Please help!!
