New West (QB) > Steveston

Hey All -- So I posted maybe a week or two ago about going from New West (QB) to Steveston.

I finally got around to it yesterday, and it was great!

There were a few areas that I wasn't sure about as I was riding along the Westminster Highway after following the MUP to #6 Road. But for whatever reason, it wasn't that busy yesterday and I manage do make it across the overpass and down to the Richmond Nature Park then onto the Shell Road Trail.

I followed that all the way to Steveston Highway and then wend down Gary Road (???) to Moncton and towards the Cannery.

The MUPs are great! But if it wasn't there, I probably would not ride up/down Steveston Highway.

All in all - it was a good ride, but took me about 2hrs to get there (average speed was around 12km/h).

Oddly enough, I felt less fatigued and tired on a 55km ride vs my normal 20km or 25km rides.

But I learned a few things.

Having good cycling shorts with sufficient padding is crucial! I don't think I would have made it had I not bought those some months ago.

I have some basic gloves, I think I need to invest in a good pair of riding gloves.

I also probably need to change the handlebar grips -- my palms were pretty sore by the time I got back.

I think this is something that I will do at least 2x per month -- just to get away from my normal rides in my area. Not too hard, mostly flat and getting to Steveston Village and into Gary Point Park was nice being beside the water. Nice breeze coming in and it wasn't too warm.

...a few pictures from the ride. And I guess, pigs DO fly (shows AI generated because I got rid of some of the other kites flying). 😂

Ring Chime Gen 1

Hey All - I've got a Ring doorbell, and the chime came with it.

Last few weeks, it wasn't working. Didn't think anything of it at the time. Tried to 'reset' it last night and it looks like it's dead. I've changed power outlets but it does not light up.

I don't really want to spend $$$ on replacing this, only to have it fail -- does anyone know if there are any 'quick fixes' for this thing or is it toast?

I can be pretty handy with a soldering iron. :)

Kenmore Canister Vacuum

Hey... I have a very old Kenmore canister vacuum. I need tobfind a replacement part.

It joins the upper metal pipe with the lower one.

I saw a 3D printed one but was looking for an OEM or original.

Any ideas?

Preferably order from somewhere in Canada but open to ordering from the US.

The part number appears to be C44DDKM.

TIA!

New West (Queensborough) > Steveston Village

Hey All - So I've got a very old bike, about 30 years old (so not one of those sleek ultra-light bikes I see all the hardcore cyclists using) and have started cycling over the last year in an effort to control my T2D and lose weight (so far, it's working). The longest I usually do is from my home in QB to about #6 Road along Westminster Highway using the multi-use path. It's about an hour ride for me and there and back plus some other routes within QB gets me to about 20km - 25km.

AVG speed is around 12 km/h- 15 km/h -- yeah, at a turtles pace LOL.

I'd like to go from my place in QB to Steveston Village, which is around 25km -- so I expect it to take around 2-hours, one-way plus whatever time I spend in the area.

My plan is to use the Westminster Highway MUP then eventually move onto the bike lane on Westminster Highway, follow it up to #5 Road then go down #5 Road towards Ironwood and Steveston then following Steveston Hwy down to the Village. Recently City of Richmond has added MUPs to one side of the road and I frequently see cyclist using it, so I would use that rather than try to use the road (Steveston Hwy is always busy).

I'm really nervous in part of the ride due to the traffic along Westminster Highway towards #5 Road; having driven it often I know some drivers are distracted especially when it's busy.

I have a light on the back of my bike, and a high-v vest.

Are there any other routes I could take? I thought of taking some of the "inside" roads like #6 Road along where all the farms/golf course etc., is but it's pretty narrow and has gotten busier.

Also thought about Sidaway -- but same thing, very narrow and can be pretty busy.

Appreciate any suggestions/advice.

A1C Update -Small Drop

Went for my A1C today, and it came back at 6.5 -- my last one was 6.7, so it was a small drop but honestly I don't understand why.

I've been going over my carb limit by 50% and some days by 100% but most of my carbs are coming from fruit, and vegetables -- not from bread, pasta, noodles, roti/naan etc.,

The only thing that I've been doing differently is regular exercise: walking 3km to 5km 2x per week, and cycling 15km - 25km 3 - 4x per week.

I have cut out junk food and almost all processed foods (you know, cakes, cookies, crackers, chips) -- we don't buy any and my mornings have been black tea or coffee.

I also IF 16:8 or 14:10.

Not complaining and I'm super happy with it going down, instead of up.

Insulin has remained the same (both quick acting, and long acting). No change in medication, but the doctor did put me back onto Ozempic but I might be able to stop (I've only been taking it for three-weeks -- so it shouldn't impact the A1C).

Router - Question for the techies

Hey All - I recently switched from Rogers to Telus.

I'm not super happy with the service, maybe I just need to tweak my router or get another one.

YT buffers - A LOT; sometimes some shorts won't even load.

One of my boys, who does game a lot also has issues and he's hardwired into the switch, which of course goes into the wall and into a central cabinet where their gateway is. The switch is a gigabyte switch.

I have their router in passthrough/gateway mode and prefer to use my own router which is an ASUS RT-AC3200 (it is probably about 10 years old now but has been faithful).

Mostly been happy with the AC3200, but recently bought another router, an ASUS TUF Gaming WiFi 6 AX4200. The price was great at Staples ($99.99 + tax) and picked it up as it was a good deal.

The AX4200 has pretty good reviews.

It seems like this is a keeper... but am wondering what others opinions on this router is.

Help - Unable to access router(s)

Hey All - OK, here is the situation.

I have router #1 (ASUS RT-NT66U) and it is set to AP mode. I have several WIFI devices connected to it (camera, switches, etc.,). Static IP set to 192.168.3.xxx.

I have a router #2 (ASUS AC-3200) and it's functioning as my main wireless router. I have several items plugged into this (hub, other WIFI switches). The IP address I used to connect to was 192.168.3.xxx.

I recently went to a new ISP (Telus) and am using their router in bridge mode.

So my NT66U plus into the AC3200.

The AC3200 plugs into the Telus router (Model B30A Boost Wi-Fi 7) (there are two ethernet ports in the back, one that says 1gb and another that says 2.5gb -- I plugged into the 2.5gb and have tried the 1gb).

So I can access the internet, no problems there. All the wired connections work in my place.

If I take my laptop down to the AC3200 and plug into it directly, I can access the AC3200 and NT66) so I know that works.

However I cannot access the AC3200 or the NT66 when I try to connect to it from any other desktop (hardwired), laptop (hardwired and wireless) or phone. Some devices connected to the NT66 also cannot be accessed (WIFI switches, camera and some other things).

I downloaded Advanced IP Scanner and that didn't tell me anything.

I accessed the Telus gateway and there is nothing there to indicate the IP address of the ports on the actual Telus router (B30A).

I have rebooted all three routers, and repowered them in order (Telus, AC3200, NT66) but I still cannot access the AC3200 or NT66 unless I connect to them directly.

Since the Telus B30A is in bridged/passthrough mode there is no IP address associated to it.

Now, before moving to Telus, I had Shaw (Rogers) as my ISP and their modem was also bridged but I could access the AC3200 and NT66 and all my WIFI devices (switches, cameras etc.,) worked fine.

I don't know what else to try.

Suggestions?

EDIT: Spelling and other errors; content the same.

EDIT: Well, this is embarrassing. Apparently on the front of this router AC-3200 there is a physical button where you can turn on/off the WIFI. I was straightening things out, and I must have pressed the button!

What a stupid design!!!

Anyway... it is working as it should. How frustrating.😒🤬

Cancelled Rogers Internet

So I'd been on the fence over cancelling my Rogers (Shaw) Internet.

I'd been having a lot of issues recently, sometimes no connectivity even when connected via wire.

Rogers asked me to call them back... I did.

All they could offer is an upgrade to 2gb and a new modem for the same price.

I was expecting them to make it a better offer - lower the price a little, or add some additional credits but that's all he could offer.

I am going to Telus, 3gb plan and the same price as what I'm paying now for Rogers at 1gb.

Hope Telus is better (I've seen all the complaints in their forum).

Is this possible - cycling between multiple apps

Hey All - I go biking nearly every day, and there are three apps that I keep running (Libre - that monitors my blood glucose, Pacer that tracks my ride and SuperCycle that also tracks my ride but give me more information that is easy to see as I'm riding).

Can MacroDroid switch between these apps, waiting one minute between each cycle?

I would just need some way to start the process, and end once I am back home.

From what I have read, I should be able to do this but am unsure.

Hey All - I need some help.

I absolutely hate the bundled WP editor.

If I try to do a list within a list, things get messed up. I can edit the raw HTML -- but it's 2026, who wants to do that?

If I cut and paste into a new post, it messes things up.

I can't use quotes, because I can't see on-screen when a quote has been created. Only when I save the draft, and view it can I see what's going on -- then it can be several dozen minutes of switching to the raw HTML and fixing all the issues. It is exhausting.

Now, maybe it is my theme - I am using Plane v1.0.5 by Automattic, I'm not sure.

Looking for a better visual editor; I'm searching the plugins and am using Google, but I'm sure there are better solutions that someone here knows that I could use.

OR maybe there is something I can do with my existing theme so the built-in editor works better?
