Chocolate Overnight Oats

I love this recipe from Rainbow Plant Life! The recipe is vegan, but you can adjust as needed. I use plain Greek yogurt and oat milk. Delicious, filling, and lots of topping options. I love having something in the fridge that’s just ready to go in the morning.

High-Protein Chocolate Overnight Oats

Serves: 3

Active time: 5 min / Inactive time: 1 hour

Ingredients

¼ cup (24g) raw cacao powder or unsweetened cocoa powder (see Note 1)

1 to 2 tablespoons (20 to 40g) pure maple syrup (see Note 2)

1 ½ cups (360g) high-protein plant-based yogurt (see Note 3)

1 cup (240 mL) soy milk (see Note 4)

1 ½ cups (150g) old-fashioned rolled oats

3 tablespoons (33g) chia seeds

½ teaspoon ground cinnamon

¼ teaspoon kosher salt, more to taste

1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract, more to taste

Serving options

Plant-based protein chocolate powder (see Note 5)

Almond butter (or nut butter of choice)

Raspberries (or fruit of choice)

Directions

  1. Heat up ¼ cup (60 mL) of water until almost boiling, then add to a large bowl. Stir in the cacao or cocoa powder and maple syrup and whisk well until you have a smooth, lump-free paste or slurry. Let it cool for a few minutes.
  2. Add the yogurt and milk to the bowl, and whisk until well combined. Add the oats, chia seeds, cinnamon, salt, and vanilla. Whisk or stir until the oats are well incorporated and everything is evenly combined. If the mixture looks thick, add more milk.
  3. Store in a sealed large jar or container, or divide between three small sealed jars. Chill overnight (or for at least 1 hour) and store in the fridge for up to 5 days.
  4. When ready to serve: If you are using protein powder, add ½ scoop (½ oz / ~15g) of protein powder (for one serving) to a bowl. Whisk in enough filtered water to make a thick and creamy slurry. Now add in your one serving of overnight oats and stir well to combine, adding more water as needed if it’s too thick.
  5. If desired, top overnight oats with nut butter and berries.

Notes

  1. Raw cacao powder has a slight bitterness to it, so if you’re new to this ingredient, you may want to stick with unsweetened cocoa powder.
  2. 1 tablespoon maple syrup will yield very lightly sweet oats. If you’re planning to stir in protein powder that has some sweetener, start with 1 tablespoon (20g) maple syrup and add more to taste when serving.
  3. Such as Icelandic Provisions Oatmilk Skyr Yogurt or Kite Hill Foods Greek Yogurt.
  4. Any soy milk you choose will have a good amount of protein per cup. In the RPL kitchen, we like Westlife soy milk (9g per cup!) and Eden Foods soy milk (12g per cup!). If you prefer more liquidy oats, you may want to add more milk now (or stir in before serving).
  5. In the RPL kitchen, we like Momentous Chocolate Protein Powder or** **Vivo Life Protein Powder.

Nutrition Boost Ideas

● For more plants, mix some flaxseed meal or hemp seeds into the oats.

● Top with raspberries (½ cup has 4g fiber!) or diced pears (1 medium pear has 6g fiber!).

Storage
● The overnight oats will stay good in the fridge for up to 5 days.

Laparoscopy billing- I’m scared

Hi all, after four ERs and three failed euploid FETs, we somehow made one more euploid (🎉). Before transferring that last embryo, I want to do everything I can to increase our chances of success.

I have suspected endo (positive Receptiva score). Due to that, I sought out an endo specialist in my city. I’m now scheduled for a laparoscopy and hysteroscopy on Oct 30th. Very excited.

BUT. I just got the bill for my first appointment with this doctor. It was a video visit, maybe 30 minutes. My insurance covered nothing, so I owe $756. For one video call.

This makes me especially nervous for the lap bill. My guess is that they ran the initial appt under infertility, which I have no coverage for. Has anyone successfully asked their doctor to code their surgery under endometriosis, even though my endo is just suspected?

I know the total “real” bill for this surgery can be upwards of 50-60-70K, and that’s not feasible for us. We have a pre-op appt next week in person and I’m planning to ask about this. But if he says no, sorry we have to run this under infertility coding, I’m not sure what we’ll do.

Any insight is appreciated. Thank you!

Edit to add: the billing code used for the video visit was 99215.

What was your progesterone level around beta?

Was this a fully medicated cycle? And did it result in success?

All three of my euploid FETs failed, and I’m curious about progesterone. For my last FET, my prog was 17.9 at 9DP5DT, and my beta was <2. All of my transfers were fully medicated.

Thanks for sharing!

Antique hand stitched quilt

My husband and I found this piece at the Goodwill bins a few years ago. It’s one of my favorite possessions EVER. I was told (by someone familiar with antique textiles) that it could be from the mid to late 1800s, but I’m not certain. I absolutely love it, and plan to treat it with care for many years to come. I wish I could go back in time and see who created this beautiful piece. And it makes me feel even more admiration toward modern day quilters. ❤️

Vintage Drunkard’s Path quilt

Found at the Goodwill bins. One of me and my husband’s most treasured items. I love it so much and am scared to wash it, since it’s fraying at the edges. You can tell it’s hand stitched and I love the variation in colors. I’m so curious to know who created this beautiful piece. 🥹 It could be 100 years old? I’m not sure, but it’s a true traysure!

Edit: thanks to a commenter for correcting me- antique, not vintage!

One more euploid, suspected endo, lap? Feeling stuck.

My husband and I have been doing (travel) IVF in Mexico City for over two years, TTC for 4. I’m almost 42, husband is 46.

We’ve done 4 retrievals and 3 euploid FETs. None have stuck (two implantation failures and a chemical). I’ve had a hysteroscopy, SIS, Lupron suppression for 2 months before the third FET, and a positive Receptiva score for endo (3.8).

We just had our 4th retrieval and we made one euploid. I want to give it the best chance of sticking.

I want to pursue a lap. I asked my Mexico City doctor and she said “The best approach would be to perform a hysteroscopy to confirm that the interior of the uterus is normal and to take an endometrial biopsy to rule out any inflammatory changes in the endometrium.”

But I’ve had a hysteroscopy before, which came back clear (but no biopsy was taken).

I just feel stuck communicating between my clinic doc, and my OB here at home who is great but her scope is more limited (she said she could do a lap for me, but maybe I should seek out a specialist?) I feel like the constant advocating for care is tiring and I really think I should get a lap, but maybe my gut is wrong. What would you do?

One more euploid. 🥹

TW: euploid

My husband and I have been doing IVF for over two years, TTC for four. We purchased an IVF package at our clinic in Mexico City (four retrievals and unlimited transfers, but you must transfer any viable embryos before the next retrieval).

Our numbers:

ER 1: 19 retrieved / 14 mature / 10 fertilized / 3 blasts / all 3 aneuploid

ER 2: 24 retrieved / 15 mature / 14 fertilized / 2 blasts / both aneuploid

ER 3: 30 retrieved / 24 mature / 24 fertilized / 6 blasts / 3 euploid!

We were absolutely thrilled after that third cycle. Unfortunately I transferred each euploid and had two implantation failures and one chemical. Lupron suppression before the last transfer too. A hysteroscopy, an SIS, immune testing.

We had one last retrieval in our package. I was not sure how to feel going into it. Physically it was my hardest cycle. I felt very nauseous and had a lot of anxiety. We ended up with:

ER 4: 18 retrieved / 17 mature / 12 fertilized / 2 blasts / ONE EUPLOID!

We just found out today and I am so surprised. I’m almost 42 and I just figured it was likely that both would be aneuploid. Just so thrilled we have one last chance.

Now I have to figure out if I want a laparoscopy, how to get insurance to cover it, if I need to see a specialist, etc etc etc. But tonight I have a little hope in my heart. I also saw the cutest little one at work today, and she blew me a kiss on her way out the door with her family. Taking that as a good sign.

Sending all of you love tonight. Keep going. ❤️

Living in the liminal la-la land before results

Does anyone else oddly enjoy the time between a procedure and results? In two days I’ll learn whether or not we got any blasts, and from there they’ll be sent for testing. But in the meantime, I don’t have to face reality just yet, and anything is possible.

I will say the TWW is less enjoyable of a wait. 🥴 But this little window of time isn’t so bad. We made it through another retrieval. We did our best. We took our supplements. We drank our healthy veggie shakes. After all that effort, I feel a sense of peace. I’m still incredibly anxious, but I also feel like things are out of my control now. Which, as a control freak, is kind of nice!

Sending you calm vibes, wherever you are in the process.

Embryo growth between days 2 and 7?

Hi all,

I had my 4th ER this past Thursday. We have a new doctor this cycle, and she’s been giving us more updates than our previous doctor. Here are our numbers this time, so far:

18 retrieved, 17 mature, 12 fertilized

She said that on day two, 10 embryos were still developing (“two of them very nice ones”). And that our next update will be day 7.

I know there will be a drop off, so I’m mentally preparing.

If your doctor gave you an update on day 2 (edit: or day 3), can you share how many embryos made it to blast by day 5-6-7? Thank you. 🙏

Success after multiple euploid failures?

Feeling all the feels tonight. My husband and I (ages 41 and 46) just arrived in Mexico City for our last (4th) retrieval with this clinic. We purchased a 4 cycle package and will receive about 90% of the $ back if we don’t have success.

Quick overview of past cycles:

ER 1: 19 retrieved / 14 mature / 10 fertilized / 3 blasts / all 3 aneuploid

ER 2: 24 retrieved / 15 mature / 14 fertilized / 2 blasts / both aneuploid

ER 3: 30 retrieved / 24 mature / 24 fertilized / 6 blasts / 3 euploid + 3 aneuploid

We were THRILLED with those last results but in the last year we’ve gone through three FETs— two failed implantations and one chemical. Before the third FET, I tested positive for endo via the Receptiva and suppressed with Lupron for 2 months. We’re also dealing with MFI (0% morphology).

We’ve both been on supplements for 3+ months (+ Omni for me two weeks ago) and improving diet and lifestyle. We’re also waiting for last minute DNA frag results. And we’re adding Zymot for the first time.

I guess my question is… who has had multiple euploid failures from the same batch of embryos, and has gone on to have success with a new batch?

I truly have no idea what to expect. Our last ER results were so good, but now I know that euploid doesn’t necessarily = success. I feel a little numb but I know I’m also protecting myself. Thanks for any insights. ❤️

Anyone order a DNA frag test from SCSA?

Hi all,

We’re expecting a delivery of a DNA fragmentation test from SCSA Diagnostics in a few days. If you ordered from them, did you receive a tracking number? I emailed to ask but didn’t hear back.

I want to make sure I’m ready and available when the package arrives. The company doesn’t even send an email confirmation when you order the test, so I’m hoping they’re far enough into the modern age to send tracking 😅

Thanks!

Receptionist suggested fertility supplements…

This morning my husband and I went to an urology appointment. We’ve had three retrievals and three failed euploid transfers, and my husband was due for an updated SA and physical exam. We also wanted to ask about DNA fragmentation testing per our IVF doc’s request.

We walked up to the check in counter, and the woman there confirms the appointment time and speciality. 10:20, urology, right? And then she says, kind of winky-winky, you want some advice? And proceeds to tell my husband to take geritol. To buy ashwagandha on Amazon. And she looks at me and says, have you heard of the Flo app?

In the moment I was not fully comprehending what she was implying, and I just sort of laughed it off. But it’s been bothering me all day. It’s wild to me that a receptionist feels that it’s appropriate to offer medical advice to patients (even though I am assuming positive intentions on her end). She had no idea of our history with infertility or IVF. Maybe I’m just extra sensitive but it felt so unprofessional!

To test DNA frag or not?

Hi all, I’d love your advice. My husband and I have been doing IVF for nearly two years. Three retrievals, three failed euploid transfers. We’re gearing up for our fourth and last retrieval with this clinic, in August.

My IVF doc is asking for us to test for DNA fragmentation. We’re dealing with MFI (low count- about 12 million, and 0% morphology). We’ve both been on supplements for about 5 weeks so it’s possible the sperm parameters could change in a month or two. I also tested positive for endo via the Receptiva test. I’m 41 and my husband is 46.

My question is, we are already doing ICSI and will be adding Zymot this cycle. Would having the DNA fragmentation % as a data point change our treatment plan in any way, do you think? We’ll absolutely do it if necessary, but I’m just curious how that info could change our next retrieval. Thanks so much for any insights!

Larger sized pre-burned screens?

Hi all, I’m considering switching from hand blockprinting cotton scarves to screenprinting them. Any recommendations for a shop/business that offers pre-burned screens at larger sizes? I’d likely need a print area of about 22x22”.

Thanks so much!

Slighter larger scale fabric printing - need advice

Hi all,

I’ve been blockprinting on fabric on and off for over a decade. Most recently I’ve been printing on thin cotton scarves that are 24x24”. I use Speedy Carve rubber plus Speedball fabric blockprinting ink, and sell the scarves at art fairs and in my online shop. I naturally dye the scarves with either indigo or avocado scraps (a peachy pink dye) before printing. They turn out beautiful and they sell really well!

My concern is that I’m printing many many impressions on one scarf, sometimes up to 100+. My body can only take so much repetitive motion. I re-ink the block each time and use a baren for pressure, and I wear a brace on one hand which I got from a doctor years ago.

I’m trying to come up with a way to maintain the hand printed look but not destroy my wrists and hands in the process. I do have a tabletop press that can print up to 12x24”, so my current thought is to purchase 12x12” rubber blocks and print four times on the scarf, with the press. Waiting between each impression for the ink to dry seems doable but not ideal.

Any other hacks or solutions I’m not thinking of? I do also have a Woodzilla press but it’s small. Maybe purchasing the largest size would work better? Although there is still some wear and tear on the body with that printing motion too.

My last resort would be switching to screen printing (a new medium for me although my husband has experience).

Thanks for any insight!

As we prepare for our fourth ER in about three months, I’d love to hear any stories of a spontaneous pregnancy after multiple failed transfers. We’ve done three euploid FETs, two failed implantations and one chemical (the first positive test I’ve ever seen).

We’re dealing with MFI and suspected endo (positive on Receptiva). I did two months of Lupron suppression before our third failed transfer. I’m 41 and my husband is 46. It’s been a long 2 years of IVF and I’m secretly hoping for a dang miracle, unlikely as it may be. Thank you!
