Seeking 1-2 tickets for Seattle!

I caught the inter-dimensional plague at their seattle show last fall which turned into long covid. Now that I’m barely good enough to attend shows, I’m trying to reverse the curse by showing up at this one. I have a ticket for myself but I hope to get one or two friends in for a reasonable price for emotional support!

Attached is a drawing I did of Wraith Knight at the show last year :)

Dip Pen Ink with Interesting Shading/Properties?

Hey all! I’m an artist who loves fountain pens and fountain pen dye inks for their color complexity and shading behaviors. I’ve noticed most pigmented “artist” inks that work well with dip pens are remarkably static and consistent by comparison.

Are there any dip pen inks that have richer and more complex shading similar to fountain pen/dye inks?

I was excited to try kakimori inks, but unfortunately they’re built to be swappable with fountain pens and so they’re quite watery for what I’m looking for.

“Rebound Days”

Hey yall! Do you experience “rebound days” after PEM? Aka, a night a comparatively decent rest, followed by a surge of energy (and sometimes pots symptoms) as your NS turns back on? If so, how do you manage them?

Do you find that your exertion tolerance is lower (more energy/excitement = more exertion for minor things = fewer total spoons), about the same, or higher (more energy=more spoons)?

The Morning Sickness/Insomnia Body Ache Thing - What Do We Make of It?

Alright, so I’ve been making a lot of progress in my recovery. The biggest symptom remaining is what I suspect is THE symptom of PEM - Insomnia that onsets late into the night/early morning, accompanied by a really intense, alien body sensation.

I don’t describe it as pain, it’s almost like clamminess, but in my bones instead of my skin. It vaguely resembles a headache taking place in my skeleton in the rest of my body. It’s a bodily sensation that easily penetrates my sleep and prevents it from going deeper than flickers of REM, during which I can feel my body still clamming up.

Sometimes it occurs without PEM days, and it disappears over the course of a few hours after waking up. Other times PEM type depression and aches follow it.

What do we do when that happens? It’s hard to apply NSR techniques when I’m rolled over and drifting in and out of shitty shallow dreams. I worry that waking up and doing something, like journaling or emdr with a laser pointer or alternate nostril breathing, will just get me further from sleep and rest.

Also, why do we think it happens? What’s the model here?

As I get better, it hits me later and later in the morning, allowing me more actual sleep. I’ve been wondering if it’s just an attempt by the body to counteract the burst of energy I typically get in the mornings, thrown way off by dysautonomia and circadian disorientation.

Help me pick out an A5 leather cover! Want something soft like MD

Hey everyone, need some guidance selecting and predicting leather quality.

I’ve been using a lot of thin A5 notebooks lately and wanted to invest in a cover. I don’t have the cash for a PR Portfolio or Tashenbegleiter, and PR and MD notoriously do not make plain covers in anything but proprietary sized covers.

In the past I had two travelers notebooks, one from Galen and one from MD Travelers. I was immensely dissatisfied with the Galen book which is what led me to Travelers, which I loved. The Galen leather was stiff at first, and even after it wore and gained flexibility it remained smooth and rubbery to the touch.

On the other hand, I’m in love with the leather quality of MD. I love how thin and flexible it is, and the smooth, matte, almost plush texture.

Looking at all the sellers on etsy, I can’t shake the feeling that most of what’s available for purchase is of the Galen variety - hard, rubbery, smooth leather.

What keywords or manufacturers should I be looking for if I want something soft and flexible like MD?

Inks that are more beautiful in medium/fine nibs than broad or stub nibs, and other unexpected behaviors!

I’m a stub and broade and fude purist because of how feral I am while journaling and for my love of sketching. And obviously they have a reputation for laying down a ton of ink for extra effects!

But I’ve recently noticed my taccia inks look so much prettier with more dramatic in medium and fine nib sizes. Does anybody else have any inks to share with unexpected behavior by size?

The Monteverde wordmark is hideous

A blight on their otherwise solid pens and nibs.

Discuss.

EDIT: I’m talking about the “Monteverde USA” logo, not the pen itself. I forget the name of the model of the pen. The pen looks fine <3

Logo can also refer to an icon or crest, like the nike swoosh, wordmark specifically is the part of the company’s branding that consists of their spelled out name. The pen isn’t called the Monteverde Wordmark though that’d be a sick name for a pen.

Half-Crashes?

LC type cfs here, with POTS and HI: This thing’s been happening to me more and more, where I’ll be stuck in bed with all the signs of PEM onset, then wake up the next day feeling fine, even with a bit of “post-PEM” energy.

TMI paragraph: I know *something* happened, because my stool will usually show signs of GI distress, but only like… half of it? It’s like at some point in the night my body found the spare change it needed (in energy terms) and calmed down. My stool’s also been smelling less of ammonia these days.

I’ve started Oxaloacetate and been taking large amounts of CoQ10 when feeling onset, and on the BRT side been doing a lot of visualizations of just how relieved I’d feel if I got the news that I’d wake up tomorrow symptom free to avoid panicking. It’s macabre but I’ve realized that if I’m automatically fantasizing about dying I may as well be using that imagination fantasizing about getting better.

Anybody ever deal with this and have a guess as to what it means?

Bileam Tschepe - Healing Long Covid (recovery)

One of the first artists/public figures I admired to get long covid recently posted this comprehensive recovery video charting his 90%-ish recovery that took place over the last six months.

TL;DR He mostly credits journalspeak, but also found definite success with LDN, ketamine, qi gong, and other interventions.

REL Hate - Somebody fill me in?

Curious about the REL hate in this subreddit! I have both an SVS sub (this sub’s favorite) and a smaller compact REL sub that my local audio secondhand store and dealer sold me on after some auditioning. In my previous place I had the SVS in my living room and the REL in my bedroom.

I’ve since had to move back in to my parent’s place due to disability and swapped the SVS to my bedroom system.

I like them both. I’ve noticed the SVS sub is a bit mellower and fuller, and the REL sub is a bit more exciting and punchy. The SVS reminds me of over ear headphones and the REL reminds me of my IEMS.

I prefer the SVS for my current needs but I enjoyed the REL while I used it. I’ve noticed SVS is definitely a word of mouth thing while REL definitely pushes themselves through dealers which is a red flag but doesn’t literally mean it sounds bad.

Anyways, why so much hate for the thing?

-

EDIT: My takeaways
Redditors have a hard-on for objective measurements and REL falls short in this regard.

In addition, a lot of the hate comes from cross-over (lol) from the home theater sub, where a sub’s value is tied pretty much directly to its low frequency extension, aka a “how low can you go,” “bass is bass” purist attitude, which is specifically where RELs come up short.

REL is also roundly agreed to fall short in non-music applications.

However, REL seems like a genuine company with engineering following a music-first, subjectively-led, audio purist standpoint, and its defenders insist you can in fact hear the difference and that their value is legit, for music integration anyways. This of course being a subjective stance, doesn’t get a lot of traction with the average reddjtor.
