Buying a car from owner's son.

I am looking into buying a used car(private sale) in Texas. The owner says the car might be registered in his mom's name( it was his mom's car.he is looking for the title and says he will apply for a replacement title if title is not found. I am also not sure if his mom is alive or has passed away either). He says he has some kind of document that says his mom gave him the car and he can give me a copy of tgat document too. Has someone been through this kind of situation before? Is there any way I can make this purchase and not run into troubles tryjng to register the vehicle? I did do a NICB title check, the car has not been reported stolen. TIA!!

Used 2017 Toyota Rav 4 LE with 100k miles on it.

I am considering buying a used 2017 toyota RAV 4 LE ( in Texas) with 100k miles on it. I have never owned a RAV 4 before. On doing some research online, it appears that 2017 LE model may have somw steering wheel issues and other issues. Can someone who has owned this year model please give me some insights? Are there any major issues that I should be concerned about and perhaps not buy this particular year model?

TIA!

High out of pocket bills after my mother in law(who is on a tourist visa in US and has a traveler's health insurance) got injured in a car accident.

My mother in law had to get a spinal cord surgery and has been recovering in the ICU ( at Texas Health Presbyterian hospital. This morning we found out that the health insurance is not going to cover the rehabilitation cost( she will need physical therepy). My (the driver's) auto insurance will not cover bodily damage.

The amount that the health insurance is going to cover seems to be only a fraction of total charges. (Based on an initial estimate from the financial counseler.( this seems to be the cost for diagnosis and using the operating room).

Please tell me what my options are and if there are any ways to lower the total out of pocket amount that we will need to pay. TIA!

Roof replacement required?

Under the sun, my 11 year old roof looks like it has lines at the meeting points of shingles (Photo 1). A roofing company approached me and pointed this out and said the shingles are separating (or something along those lines) and later there would only be vapor barrier left between the roof structure and exterior.

The roof was inspected a year go and I was told it still has like 7-8 years life left. Since the inspection, there has not been any hailstorm in my area. Only rain (Dallas Fortworth area). I went into the attic once after rainfall recently and didn't see any sign of leaks.

Do you think the roof needs immediate replacement?

TIA for your advice!!
