Found these two usb drives. You think you plug them in and immediately *poof*?

I know enough not to plug these into anything I own. But the curiosity is killing me.

Has anyone seen this before? Google just brings up the Radiohead song. Which, maybe that’s all that’s on these, but there’s two of them. One is 64gb, and I think the other one is the same or more maybe. That’s a lot of space for a single mp3 file, and a backup.

UPDATE 1: I’ve got an old laptop I’m willing to sacrifice. I’ll plug one in when I get home tonight. Wish me luck.

UPDATE 2: Alright, I finally got around to plugging the first drive into the sacrificial laptop.

There are only two files on it.

The first is a PDF titled How to Disappear Completely. It's essentially a field manual for digital privacy. It starts with some pretty strange, almost philosophical writing about surveillance, identity, and the information we leave behind. Then it gets surprisingly practical. Instructions for booting an operating system called Tails, along with resources about Tor, encryption, Monero, anonymous communication, and digital privacy.

The second file is called Rabbit_hole.txt. Rabbit_hole.7z

As for Tails, apparently it's an entire operating system that runs from a USB drive, routes internet traffic through Tor, and is designed to forget what you've done when you shut it down.

I'm going to try booting from the other USB now.

I'll update again once I've had a chance to explore it.

And seriously, don't take this as encouragement to plug random USB drives into your computer. That's a genuinely terrible idea.

Just inherited a Lionel Train Set, possibly pre war?

My Oma passed a few years ago, and left me this Lionel Train set that had belonged to her childhood brother. The brother died of polio not long after this set was purchased, so it wasn’t played with much.

My dad seems to think the set was purchased in the 40’s, but from my quick research I think they’re maybe early 30’s.

Anyone know anything about what I’ve got here?

My two year old loves trains, so I could fix up the transformer and set it up for him to play with, but if I’m sitting on something more valuable than I think I’ll just find a buyer and purchase him a newer set.

Any information would be appreciated, I know nothing about pre war toys or trains.

AJ’s sudden change in hair color seems… suspicious.

AJ says he dyed it red because he felt like it.

Which is exactly what someone who just met with the subterranean council beneath Denver International Airport would say.

I kinda like it… BUT WHAT DOES IT MEAN?

If you’ve never heard of Yanka Dyaligeva, she is worth your time.

Yanka was a Siberian underground punk musician and poet who recorded during the final years of the Soviet Union. Her music blended Russian folk traditions with raw, minimalist punk, and her lyrics explored despair, isolation, and life under a crumbling system. She was virtually unknown outside underground circles during her lifetime and died in 1991 at just 24 under circumstances that have never been fully explained. For many, her death symbolized the end of the Siberian punk movement.

I found her through Adam Curtis’ HyperNormalisation, and I’ve been down the rabbit hole ever since. Even if you don’t understand Russian, there’s something hauntingly universal about her voice.

The song in the documentary is called “My Sorrow is Luminous” or “Печаль моя светла”.

This is an English translation of the song:

I repeat ten times and again
No one knows how fucking shit I'm feeling
And a television hanging from the ceiling
And no one knows how fucking shit I'm feeling
Everything is so sick and tired of dealing
That I want to start again, from the beginning
The verse is sad, and so again
I repeat, how fucking shit I'm feeling
