First-time dad-to-be (wife is 7 weeks). Did anyone actually manage to get in shape before the baby came?

Hey all. We just found out we’re expecting, due around late May. I’m 27, desk job, haven’t trained in about 2 years, and my neck and shoulders are a mess from sitting all day. I’ve got a barbell and dumbbells at home and I want to use the next ~8 months to build a habit that survives the newborn phase.

For those who tried something similar:

  • Did you stick with it during the pregnancy? What made you quit, if you did?
  • Did anything you built before the birth actually carry over after?
  • Anything you wish you’d focused on instead (sleep, cooking, learning baby stuff)?

Thanks, and congrats to everyone else in the same boat.

For me it's a tiny success

This is a simple mobile app designed for the civil service recruitment exam in Türkiye, allowing users to make progress by solving just one question a day. My primary goal wasn't so much about learning exam material or solving questions; rather, it was to address the fact that people often lose touch with their exam preparation due to the hectic pace of daily life. After all, many candidates have already finished their formal education, and some are even working in the private sector. I felt that this daily hustle was setting them back in their preparation process. I developed this app as a solution to that problem, and it seems I’ve managed to capture people's interest.

Mobil uygulama yayınlarken 3. taraf bağımlılıkları otomatikleştirme fikri, uygulanabilir mi?

herkese selam,

Merak ediyorum. Herkese verimli haftalar diliyorum.

Yes Chef — a hands-free cooking assistant so you never touch your phone with flour-covered hands again

Yes Chef just went live. Built it because I was tired of smudging my phone screen with wet/floury hands mid-recipe, then losing my place trying to scroll back to the right step.

What it does:

  • Paste any recipe (from any site, any format) → AI parses it into clear steps and ingredients
  • "Always-on cooking mode" keeps your screen awake and reads each step aloud via TTS
  • Fully voice-controlled navigation — say "Tamam şef" (or the app's wake phrase) to move to the next step, repeat a step, or ask for the ingredient list, all without touching the screen
  • Auto-starts timers whenever a step needs one (boiling, baking, resting, etc.)
  • Multi-sensory feedback so you always know where you are in the recipe without looking

Built with React Native + Expo. The hardest part was getting voice command recognition reliable in an actual kitchen environment — blenders, running water, extractor fans all mess with wake-word detection, so a lot of iteration went into that.

Would love feedback, especially from anyone who's cooked with it in a real kitchen — does the voice control actually hold up while your hands are busy?

I got tired of wiping flour off my phone screen mid-recipe, so I built a hands-free cooking assistant with React Native — it's live now

  • React Native + Expo (managed workflow) seçtim çünkü MVP'yi hızlı çıkarmak istiyordum, native modül karmaşasına şu an girmek istemedim.
