So I bought my second used Gibson from guitar center over the weekend. It has a crazy good neck shape. It’s 50s standard custom colors series 2023. And when they took it down off the wall they stated it has “upgraded “ tuners. I looked it over. Noticed someone replaced the input jack I mentioned that. He agreed. When he handed it to me I fell in love with the neck carve. Everything smells right. I gave it like quick look over and plugged into a couple different small Marshall’s because when I asked to use the JCM 800 the salesman frowned. I’m like eeeeeeeerrrrr.
So Everything works. No high frets. It’s not even really any wear on this instrument except some dings in the headstock. It’s used. We check the rod. All good. I say to the salesman I got 45 days to return. Yep
Ring me up. It’s on sale but barely. I’m ok with it.
So I play around at home low volume for two days. And then I get near a big amp.
What the heck is wrong with this neck pick up?
I popped the hood. It’s got Seymour Duncan’s in it. I cannot stand most Seymour Duncan pickups. I’m sorry. Like the bridge. Sh1 or something I can’t remember. But I’m not happy and I gotta pick up my kid from daycare.
Off we go to the Guitar center lol.
I pop in and they’re like. We’ll order you a new one. I’m like no thanks. How about a partial refund so I can purchase one of those 500ts over there. I’m in love with this neck. We can’t do that.
I’m like I literally have done that before. I want 200 bucks back?
No no.
100? Well we could maybe do 150. But we’re real busy right now. You’re gonna have to wait for me to talk to my manager.
So now I got a Guitar/drum crazy two year-old trying to escape and potentially El Kabong some stuff. 30 minutes goes by. I’m minding the baby being chill.
He comes back and tells me that the reason the instrument was $200 off was because it has those pick ups. This is after he tried to tell me that just telling me about the tuners is all they have to do to excuse all surprises. And he wants me to have them ship in this other Guitar two states over that’s several hundred dollars more.
Now I’m mad but I be cool. I leave and say screw it. I’m having my Lucia throw in my vintage dimarzos from my childhood. Double cream, nice and aged.

My question is.

Am I being unreasonable? am I stupid to wanna hold a guitar that has a magic neck and 0 qc issues. I’ve bought six guitars at the Guitar center in the last four years. Two of them have had the wrong pickups. Last time I just brought it back and put the money towards my first special.
I bought several cymbals. A snare drum. A set of drum stands. A high hat.

My last question is Guitar Center in such Dire Straits that they are ripping Gibson electronics from guitars that sit too long? Or do they just not actually look at pickups when they get expensive instruments in.

Because I was looking over his shoulder when he looked at the description and it said nothing about replaced pick ups they made that up because I started to get upset and I’m a scary looking person. Cause none of those people here can look me in the eye when all this was going on.

I been helping with tricks here. One thing I notice a lot is people asking for help who are landing on the board upside down. Everything else is looking ok. The ones that are rolling that is. But it pops. They jump. The board comes up hits the catch foot but it’s a half flip. That’s just a timing issue. Fixing your pop-flick timing is this easy
I suggest this a lot here.

Throw down. Do an Ollie. And while you still have speed. Calmly set up exactly the same way as your last Ollie and do everything the same except you’re knee should come out past your nose and you flick through the bolts and off the corner of your nose.
This tactic works in all four stances. It works with turning popped shuvs into v’s. It works on turning big spins into big flips. Kinda. Maybe not. You gotta be able to make a board do a Tre or laser to be able to really really big flip.

Regardless. Ask these tricks are extensions of the Ollie. That’s the foundation. Cuz if you don’t got a nice Ollie you ain’t gonna have a nice nothing. Pressure flip. Impossible I guess.
That one feels like an Ollie to me because I learned it in 91. Here I’ll post one. That’s me when I was 45.

One more suggestion. Learn how to push switch. And while you’re learning, Ollie and Nolies and kickflips… learn then switch.
If I could go back in time to the beginning of tell myself ask this unwanted advice.

One sometimes two person Noisecore from Massachusetts. They only played like three shows. One was with Pavel Checkov in Allston. That was a sick show.
Duder got zooted then played the drums lefty because he had a torn acl. Did 5 tracks smoked again and rowed out on a skateboard with a guitar and backpack.

I like 50’s necks and I prefer white guitars with bound necks. Which SG’s should I be trying?
