If humans never needed sleep, would civilization be 10x more advanced by now?

We spend roughly a third of our lives sleeping. If humans had evolved without needing sleep at all, we would have had thousands of extra hours every year to learn, work, create, experiment and build.

Would humanity be dramatically ahead of where we are today?

Or would we simply find another way to waste those extra hours?

What happened?
