Quincy Adams Inn (Best Western)

Hi all! We are looking at venues in the greater Boston area and saw the Quincy Adams Inn as an option. They don’t have as much of an online presence/reviews I could find as some other venues, but it looks like a cute spot. Does anyone have any experience hosting or attending a wedding here? Have thoughts or reasons you didn’t go with them? TIA!

$10K- Photographer musts/regrets?

Hi all! We’re looking to keep costs as low as possible for our $10k wedding and I’m looking at costs for a photographer. We’re planning a 6 hr session to cover some couple photos before the ceremony, ceremony, and enough of the reception to get about an hour of dance floor pics. Ceremony and reception are at the same location; couple’s pics before the ceremony are less than 5 min away. ~100 guests. We don’t care very much about professional getting ready pics, shots of the dresses hanging or the rings or things like that, or a grand exit.

I’m looking for input from anyone who has already had their wedding or has been involved with planning someone else’s. Does 6 hrs sound sufficient for what we’re looking for? Is a second photographer necessary/something we’d regret not having? Any other little things I might not realize about booking a photographer? TIA!

LGBTQ-experienced photographers under 3k?

Hi all! Looking for recommendations for Boston-area photographers who can shoot 6 hours for under $3K for a wedding in Quincy next year. Looking for someone with experience shooting queer couples (or maybe, someone in the community looking to expand their portfolio to include shots of a queer couple!). Definitely open to newer/less experienced photographers. Any recommendations? TIA!

Any provider recommendations in Massachusetts?

I have been having symptoms for almost 2 years before someone finally tested for ureaplasma (I had never heard of it!) and got treatment. Now I’m continuing to have symptoms and am seeing a lot of others on Reddit in the same boat. My PCP referred me to a gynecologist who does not think ureaplasma is likely to cause symptoms and will not test for it in the future. She wants to retest for UTI/BV/yeast/STIs when I’m symptomatic (all of which I’ve been consistently tested for several times I’ve been symptomatic and they’ve never been positive). Has anyone had luck finding a provider in Massachusetts who is experienced with ureaplasma? TIA!

What happens if you apply for SSI/SSDI without a legal residency status?

Looking for stories of firsthand experiences, not for legal advice!

If you have a client who doesn’t know their residency status (might still have permanent residency, may have had it revoked and now has no legal status, client cannot recall), can they apply for SSI/SSDI? Does social security notice right away that they aren’t eligible, or would they let someone apply and assess their disability, and work out immigration-related eligibility later? If you apply in good faith but are found to be ineligible, is there something negative that happens to you?

Client cannot recall A number and generally does not want to engage around getting clarification on their legal status, only wants to give SSI/SSDI a go and has a “the worst they can say is no” perspective on it. I personally am very worried that, if it turns out they have no legal status, we’re flagging them and their address for ICE.

Anyone have recent personal experiences with similar situations? TIA!

Can anyone beat The Common Man’s catering pricing?

Getting married next May in NH (lakes region) and looking to see if we can cut the catering cost any lower than what The Common Man offers (looks like about $33 a head for chicken/fish, passed hors d’oeuvres around $70-150 depending on dish).

I know it’s hard to calculate catering costs down to the dollar, but curious if anyone else had maybe looked at The Common Man and found something cheaper for your own wedding.

We are looking specifically for buffet or plated meals, not open to food trucks at this time due to the venue.

TIA for any ideas!

Reality check: wedding on best friend’s 30th?

I see the general consensus on this sub is that having a wedding on a guest’s birthday is kind of inevitable. However, one of the few days our ideal venue has left is on my best friend’s 30th birthday. I do plan to ask her about this, but I feel kind of guilty eating up her entire birthday weekend (wedding would be on her birthday, a Saturday, and I presume the Friday before would be a rehearsal) on a “big birthday”, especially since I don’t really see her feeling comfortable saying no to attending if it does matter that much to her. Thoughts?

Ideas for something that would be considered an “educational leave”?

I love my job, my clients, my team. And, I need a break.

I have been here 5.5 years. After 5 years at my company, a lot of your benefits improve (like PTO accruing at a higher rate), and I really don’t want to leave the job itself and have to start over.

But I need a break.

I was reading our employee handbook and there is the option to take an unpaid “educational leave”. It can be up to 12 weeks, and I am in a position financially where I could afford to be away from work for 12 weeks.

I have already completed my MSW. Any ideas on a work-related educational endeavor that would take around (or under) 12 weeks? Any ideas are appreciated!

I feel exhausted with the job itself, but not social work as a whole. I like my role and my team, I’m just tired. I do genuinely think a couple months to learn and grow without being responsible for clients would do me wonders.

Salon in North End that can do an updo?

I am going to a wedding in the North End in July and am looking for a salon nearby that can do an updo. I’ll be walking and anticipating July heat, so hoping for no further than a 10 min walk from the Marriott Long Wharf. It looks like there are several salons nearby, but wanted to see if anyone had experience getting an up-do at any of them. Thank you for any ideas!!!

Help finding plus size black tie dress

Hi all, I am currently looking to find a plus size (18/20) dress for a black tie wedding in the fall. I am having such a hard time finding something that is fancy enough for the event, but also age-appropriate (I’m 28 and a lot of the dresses I’m seeing are MOTB/meant for someone who is 58). Hoping to stay under $200, $300 max. Any suggestions on where to look? Thank you!

I (30F) am totally out of shape and have never done upper body or strength training in my life. I am looking to get into lifting to build bone density, but am afraid of doing things wrong and injuring myself. I’d love to do some type of class or even personal training for a couple months if it’s not crazy expensive, to learn the ropes under supervision and gain confidence around the equipment. Any recommendations for gyms that offer a class like this, or how to find a short term personal trainer?

My (F) last name is 9 letters long. I really like my name and don’t want to lose it when I get married, but also want to share a name with my partner (F). Hers is 7 characters long. If I hyphenated, would this present a logistical issue on forms and things like that, aside from just being wordy?
